(Starpulse) Cool Rock Star, the reality show that was the death knell of bands such as INXS and Supernova, will not help Velvet Revolver destroy their career -- they will have to rely solely on themselves   (starpulse.com) divider line 33

Wait, what, Subby? Supernova was created specially for the show, which is why their season was such a farce. And INXS got a new album and a world tour out of their appearance, not to mention increasing sales of their older albums.

Call me Nancy, but I liked the show...the INXS one, not the Supernova one.

I am glad to see Slash is still above it, unlike Gilby.

I liked the show too. It actually had good singers on it (Jordis Unga was one of my favorites).

"We felt that wasn't the right forum for us to do it, so we got some ideas and we should have that news in a couple weeks... and I think it's going to surprise everybody."

Sounds like they are going to announce their new lead is Barry Manilow. Rockin!!!

I was a fan of the show as well. I always called it "American Idol for people who like watching talent."

Another fan of the show, wish it would return. Lots of good potential talent. And like above, Jordis rocked.

I watched Rock Star and enjoyed it. I would be up for a third season.

I remember being pissed during Supernova when Zaiyda kept making it round after round. God she sucked!

DRTFA, but just wanted to be the first one to say that the actual band Supernova isn't the one referenced in the headline.

Rock Star: Supernova was created just for the show.

This is the real Supernova: http://www.myspace.com/supernovaarmy

Maybe Radiohead will be on the show!!!

I love Radiohead!!!

You know what would surprise me?

If G&R did an Appetite for Destruction 21st Anniversary Tour. (we all know it's better to be 21 years old than 20!)

That won't happen, though. :(

I simply cannot hear about "Rock Star" w/o hearing Storm Large (new window), the best thing that didn't happen to that band.

She has an EP of mostly original material out now and it's freakin' amazing. She does a cover of "Where Is My Mind" (I think she did it on the show, too) that would make even a purist Pixies fan weep.

Excuse me? If im not mistaken, INXS cancelled some of the shows from that tour, from poor tickets sales, if i remember

either way, The review for the new album were horrible, it didn't go anywhere, and they havent been heard of since

as a matter of fact, the kid they chose as new singer, he does gigs on his own now, saw an ad for it in the papers months ago

DWitchiewoman 2008-05-28 07:33:08 PM
I am curious to hear who it will be.

StrikitRich 2008-05-28 07:34:20 PM
The show wouldn't have gone two episodes before Slash kicked Dave Navarro's ass.

As a massive fan of INXS in the 80's, I wouldn't go to a show, or get the cd because, for me, a huge part of it all was Michael's singing. Maybe part of the reason they've so poorly is because a lot of the teens from the 80's feel the same...

/Just sayin'...

Just bite the bullet Slash, make nice with Axl and re-unite Guns 'n Roses. :)

You know, they did something like this the first time but much lower key. It was on VH1 I think. They have all these ameteur singers and Scott Weiland. It was such a scam.

I smell an online talent search coming on. Like with hopefulls submitting Youtube videos or doing something with Myspace or Facebook or something.

Oh, and the next Rockstar season should be Quiet Riot.

Rock Star was a rare example of a reality show that combined a stupid premise with great execution. The notion of replacing Michael Hutchence via a game show was laughable, and Supernova had bad idea written all over it (almost as bad as Damnocracy).

But somehow they managed to keep the show fresh and exciting. Everything that AI does wrong was improved on Rock Star: Better song choices, talented contestants, and episodes filled with great performances instead of crap filler. And a novel idea, the best contestant was given the encore on the elimination episodes, not the no-talent hack that just got kicked off.

I liked Rock Star, too...was disappointed when it didn't return last year.

/have "Trees" and "Pretty Vegas" on my iPod

GNR ain't getting back together anytime soon. No way Axl is going to shelf the album he has been working on for more than a decade to reunite, his ego won't allow it. The record company won't let the album be shelved because they have put too much money into it. And the rest of the original band (or with Matt Sorum, f Steve Adler) wouldn't support a GNR album that they had no input into and didn't play on.

But I'm guessing that within 2 years of Chinese Democracy coming out there will be a reunion.

Velvet Revolver should go with Daughtry as their lead singer.

So in ∞+2 AD, correct?

Third Day Mark: Velvet Revolver should go with Daughtry as their lead singer.

Daughtry tried out for the INXS show and got turned down.

Weidbrewer: I was a fan of the show as well. I always called it "American Idol for people who like watching talent."

It didn't have that rule about not having been signed to a pro contract so that's probably why. There were some great singers on that show, I watched a couple times.

No, but I think they burned their fan base with that incident a while ago.

I wish the best for Slash and Co.

That's why I hope that Axl stays miles away from them.

Forever.

No one should have to put up with his enormous ego. People who attend concerts generally would assume that the singer is going to appear on time, or at some point during the night. Concert goers are crazy like that.

SharkInfested 2008-05-29 05:28:04 PM
wasn't the death knell of Michael Hutchens the death knell of INXS?
