Not to defend her or anything, but it really was a LONG book. It's hard to keep your lies straight when there's so much reference material.

And it's just damned hard to read because the pages stick together.

I think that all of the candidates should start out with the same amount of money (like a poker tournament) and the parties should decide their nominees at the conventions.

I think it was Sinbad, then someone read her book and called bullshiat. But I don't remember that much other than she failed at lying.

The question is - Does the MSM pick this up? Last time (Bosnia) it took a combination of Sinband's story and her book before the MSM called her out on her lie. Will this be enough this time?

I mean, people have been debunking both of the lies in her whole "Bill and RFK were campaigning in June" line ever since they were first made.

Or has the MSM decided that the money is in covering Obama/McCain now and just assume that everyone knows she's a habitual liar?

I miss Paul Tsongas.

Dear Mrs. Clinton,
This is why I wouldn't vote for you. Everything that comes out of your mouth requires an asterisk. Everything you say requires us to read the fine print or the disclaimer. We have had that for the past 16 years and we are GD well sick of it. I hope that Senator Obama keeps speaking to the American people like they are adults and doesn't adopt your tactics.

Tim Russert has been saying that Obama has the nomination sewn up for several weeks now. I don't have the references, nor the impulse to find out when the nomination process was truly over in 1992. But a commentator's 14 second clip does not lock up history.

/Go Obama

Pillager: I miss Paul Tsongas.

I would have voted for Tsongas. He's the closest we've had to a honest candidate in a long time.
All I want is someone whose plans include realistic methods to actually pay for them! I don't care if you want to cut taxes, or add new social programs, just tell us how your going to pay for these plans. I'm not a big Obama fan, but his stand on the gas tax holiday idea earned him points with me.

Damn. Again the Clinton campaign seems to think no one will actually check the accuracy of their statements.

Disconnect, meet reality.

Central Tendency 2008-05-27 08:38:22 AM
I have come to the conclusion that she will continue to make mistakes and misstatements like this. It's fun to think this is due to her being some kind of compulsive liar, and often it seems this is the only explanation.

However, my guess is that she has surrounded herself by people who do not challenge her on anything. Imagine for a period of years, or decades, where you are not challenged by anything that comes out of your mouth. Certainly the sniper-Bosnia story grew over the years because no one said "don't you think you are stretching that a bit?" whenever the story came up. If she hadn't brought this out for public attention her story would have grown in five years to packing a gun herself shouting "cover me!" as she ran out of the helicopter.

If she were the nominee (or even President), I don't think that her pattern of avoiding people who question her would change. This country was founded on critical thinking, and it's success in the future is based on choosing leaders who surround themselves with people who question them.

Excellent statement. I think this applies equally to the current administration.

At this point, I get the feeling that she's doing this for the benefit of the Hillaryis44 crowd and the republicans that aren't going to vote for Obama in the fall under any circumstances. Nobody else would believe her if she said that water is wet at this point.

I agree. I think it applies to humanity in general. The lack of any criticism creates an intellectual bubble.

Earguy: I don't have the references,

First I remember was after Pennsylvania/Indiana where he said something to the effect of "We all know who the nominee will be." I think it was in the same spirit as this 92 clip - barring a force majeure, the front-runner's lead is insurmountable.

Yes, the echo chamber exists. That's part of why George Washington set the example of stepping down after eight years.

Hillary has not had to talk to anyone that wasn't a flatterer for at least 20 years. Consider that between the Secret Service and Arkansas State Police, she hasn't not had a chauffeur and armed guard for over 25 years. From any indication, like Bush, anyone who disagrees is kicked out.

So, yeah. No one was willing to correct her the first time. No one was willing to correct her on Tuzla the first time. No one would tell her "Change You Can Xerox" was flat. No one.

Not saying Obama won't fall prey to flatterers. That's why I don't want him in office past January 2017. He'll have only been under such a spell for at most 10 years at that point.

Bacontastesgood 2008-05-27 10:42:46 AM
People who are continually surprised by this behavior must have never worked with a pathological liar. They will lie right to your face, even when they know it's a lie and they know that you will know that it's a lie. They don't care, the truth is something that they can just sculpt.

They rely on social mores and people's discomfort and constantly calling out someone as a liar, especially in front of outsiders. It sounds easy to do (call bullshiat) until you're in that situation, because you realize it makes you all look bad, even though you're the one telling the truth.

This is why I have always hated Bill Clinton and couldn't vote for him, even though I agreed with his policies OK. It's also why I'm excited by Obama. For a politician, he doesn't lie much, and you can tell he hates it when he has to.

I saw the "Meet the Press" host (name escapes me) call her out on it Sunday, and showed a clip of him in April 1992 saying that Bill had just sewn the nomination up.

Now that raises my eyebrow even further. I think that lady was throwing hints when she mentioned RFK because she made up a reason to mention June. Crazy nutjob
