Drunken Fark confession: I saw Journey twice back then, on their Escape tour (with Loverboy, first concert I ever saw) and on the Frontiers tour (with a fairly unknown Bryan Adams, supporting Cuts Like A Knife). This was their opening song on the latter tour. It was never a hit, but I remember MTV using it at the time in one of their promos. They were actually a fairly talented bunch. Steve Perry had some pipes, Steve Smith was a proficient drummer with jazz roots, Neil Schon a teenage guitar prodigy with Santana (he was there with them at Woodstock, as well as Gregg Rolie, a one-time Journey keyboardist/vocalist), and he whips out a nice solo in this song. But ultimately the lure of Arena Cheese was strong in them. I still heart this song, though.

Well, that was a big bucket of suck.

Well, with that qualifier, I guess so.

I too saw Journey when they were good (Rollie in, no Johnathan Cain ruination yet), but this video is cringeworthy.

Some songs just shouldn't be made into videos.....this is one of them.

Serious suckage there.

Come on, this video owns! Between Chain Reaction and Separate Ways how can you not love the cheesy videos Journey released? Air guitar/keyboard/bass/drums in one and fighting over a mannequin in the other! Music videos used to be awesome!

Ah, the first half of the 80s when artists were all new to this making videos thing. If you can watch the first minute without laughing, you are built of stronger stuff than me. Reminds me of being in grade school... thanks for the laugh, Subby.

Really, it's hard to explain to someone who hasn't seen it why the Seperate Ways video is goddamn awesome. They're listening to the words coming out of your mouth, and they know you're trying to convey to them something of great importance, but they just don't understand!

Until they actually see it, they won't be able to hear Jimi.

I wonder why that song wasn't on their Greatest Hits cd.

No, wait...

Because the song sucked. I forgot for a minute.

Av8rLuvr: Some songs bands just shouldn't be made into videos allowed to make music.....this is one of them.

Serious suckage there.

Oh God. I tried, but I can't watch the rest. I did enjoy the dramatic lighting effects/extreme cloesup on the mannequin, though. And the Steve Perry vesrsion of the running man.
LOL
