I listened to her campaign's conference call Thursday. Their argument for including FL and MI at 100%, against the need to punish those states for early primaries, goes like this:

1) There were more states than just these two striving for early primaries. The punishment was intended to send a message to all those states. That message has been delivered.

2) FL and MI have already been punished by the loss of campaign money, TV ads (excepting Obama's ad that ran even though he said it wouldn't

3) The Democratic party needs to win the general election, period, and pissing of FL and MI puts that at risk, which is a stupid thing to do just to make a point about election timing.

They argue that seating at 100% is the only option to avoid disenfranchising votes, and that the current voting results should be adhered to, because of the high turnouts in both states, which would indicate that people came out as motivated voters, and, thus, knew the score, and who they were voting for.

From my perspective, I think an acceptable outcome would be explain to Hillary that the only way they'll seat FL and MI is if she withdraws first. It would be helpful to delay the rules committee meeting by a couple weeks so that the remaining primaries can close out, and the math can be explained very clearly. Hillary can hold her head high that she stuck it out while every state got their votes in, and that she did the gracious thing by bowing out for the good of the party in the general. FL and MI get full delegations, and the convention goes forth without drama.

Obama does need Michigan. He looks to be several points ahead of McCain there already... and stronger against McCain than Clinton is, according to several polls.

Fewer than 600,000 people voted in the Michigan pseudoprimary out of 10.5 million people. More than 700,000 voted in the Kentucky Dem primary out of less than 4.5m (and a smaller percentage of KY voters are Dem than MI voters). The Michigan turnout was the lowest per registered Dem of any primary-holding state this cycle. So, that's a flat-out lie.

You'd think, but I believe the outcome of this will be at least some delegation from both states (or full delegations with reduced voting privileges) if both candidates are still in the race. If Clinton drops out, I think they could seat 100% of both states under the argument that it's largely academic and that the needs of the general election are paramount.

I also think any compromise solution will come with the statement that the rules will be different next time (instead of "same rules, but next time, we promise to enforce them.")
