It's sad to see someone throw away their life for nothing.

SockMonkeyHolocaust 2008-05-25 06:04:31 PM
He just made a strategic withdrawal to Hell to regroup.

Kyosuke [TotalFark] 2008-05-25 06:06:19 PM
Don't we all lose our final battle?

Not if it's a battle against not dying.

Ah, hadn't thought of that. I suppose all suicides are successful ventures.

Hey, hey hey. Bush gave up golf! I mean C'MON!!1!

A friend of mine works in a WTU (Warrior Transition Unit) She is having trouble with this guy who does not like to take orders. Turns out he has been hit with IED's in Iraq 8 times.

That's eight separate times, that is like, he listened to them and went back out on patrol 7 times.

I would not follow any military advice anymore if that was me, they obviously have no respect for him.

SilentStrider [TotalFark] 2008-05-25 09:14:06 PM
damn. that sucks. rest in peace brave soldier.

TommyymmoT [TotalFark] 2008-05-25 09:51:23 PM
When Bush or Cheney dies, they should point the 21 gun salute AT the casket.

cmunic8r99 [TotalFark] 2008-05-25 10:18:32 PM
rest easy, gentle warrior.

semper fidelis.

Crosshair [TotalFark] 2008-05-25 10:32:25 PM
No offense, but I think I would have rather not made it if I was in that guys situation. Seriously, even if you beat the odds, you still loose. But that is just me. Nobody knows what they will do in a situation like that until it happens to them. Good for him in being able to take it and move forward.

I_Hate_Iowa 2008-05-25 11:15:36 PM
That man was by far a greater person than George W. Bush could ever hope to be. I hate random Bush bashing, but it just about made me cry to read about him.

I lol'd on that one.

Ace Frehley's Ghost 2008-05-25 11:30:41 PM
But we need to keep sending more Marines into the meat grinder, otherwise this one died in vain.

lokidecat [TotalFark] 2008-05-25 11:32:15 PM
I'm not one to be overly emotional, but that story sorta choked me up a bit.

To hell with Bush for killing than man. That's my opinion.

Dr.Zom 2008-05-25 11:32:45 PM
Impeach. Imprison.

/rest in peace, brave Marine

For those of you who mock or disparage this man, I weep for you when the wheel of Karma turns to you...

It's nice of some of you to bring in politics on this Memorial Day weekend after reading about Marine Sgt. Merlin German. From reading this article and other articles about Sgt. German's wonderful attitude and positive help and comfort to others, I am sure that he would be impressed with your inconsiderate statements.

Me·mo·ri·al Day- Observed in the United States in commemoration of those members of the armed forces killed in (ALL) wars. Learn it boneheads...

Rest in peace my brother in arms...

GoldSpider 2008-05-25 11:35:29 PM
I can't imagine the horror of being that badly burned. If it were me, I'd have just asked the medics to put one in my head and end it.

DarKrow 2008-05-25 11:35:34 PM
End the war now!

inconnu 2008-05-25 11:35:35 PM
God speed, marine.

NapaTransplant 2008-05-25 11:36:36 PM
He didn't lose any battles. He went out proud.

Gonad the Ballbarian 2008-05-25 11:37:16 PM
A senseless death. I feel for his family.

/damn bush and the oil markets.

Trick E. Dick 2008-05-25 11:38:37 PM
Lt. Col. Grant Olbrich recalls a day in 2006 when he stopped by German's room and noticed he was crying softly. Olbrich, who heads a Marine patient affairs team at Brooke, says he sat with him awhile and asked: "What are you scared of?' He said, 'I'm afraid there will never be a woman who loves me.' "

No matter what your politics are, that makes him a true farker.

/raise whatever's in front of you for this brave man.

TX-Law 2008-05-25 11:39:10 PM
Bravo Zulu, marine.
Bravo Zulu, VA doctors. Good to see some of that bass-akwards shiat has been ironed out.
NEGAT Bravo Zulu, Bush Administration. Surprised to see they don't all suffocate with their heads that far up their asses.

boyishly_gregarious 2008-05-25 11:40:00 PM
Geez... I didn't realize I was reading a comment feed from Digg.

/Godspeed

TX-Law 2008-05-25 11:40:52 PM
and not to be a dick or anything, but this Marine is from New York I believe. Not that we're not honored to have such a brave and noble warrior in our presence.

hechz 2008-05-25 11:40:53 PM
/wipes tear away

A) this shouldn't have happened to this young man
B) i thank him from the bottom of my heart for putting himself in harms way. (an all others that do so too)
C) i can think of no two finer folks that this SHOULD have happened to than our fearless leaders

GoldSpider 2008-05-25 11:42:13 PM
hechz: C) i can think of no two finer folks that this SHOULD have happened to than our fearless leaders

You people can't even set aside your hatred on a day when we are supposed to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice? You aught to get therapy.

MIguy [TotalFark] 2008-05-25 11:43:37 PM
End the war now so we can all sleep soundly knowing that it will be Iraqi's getting killed rather than Americans. Remember, an American life is worth a lot more than a person in another part of the world.

cynep [TotalFark] 2008-05-25 11:44:09 PM
fark, this shiat is hard-core.... Thoughts to him and his family. It's a shame that so many lives were lost on a totally pointless war that went only to enrich the fat c*nts that hold oil stocks and companies (read: Bush's cronies) and exposed US as an old dog that's all bark but no bite.

If it were up to me, I'd turn that shiathole to a glass valley - let allah sort 'em out.

RIP man.

bunner [TotalFark] 2008-05-25 11:44:14 PM
Mr. bush. End this goddamned war.

JKulp42757 2008-05-25 11:44:20 PM
This guy went out giving it is all. A true HERO!

thatguyfred 2008-05-25 11:44:26 PM
So is this going to be considered a KIA?

autothing 2008-05-25 11:44:40 PM
Since this is Fark, my eyes automatically read 'marine finally loses battle,' but I'm glad I was wrong even though he's still gone.

Sad story!

If the world was full of people like you rather than Sgt. Merlin German, our Constitution wouldn't mean a damn thing.

teared up during the part about the dance with his mother. that's truly awe-inspiring.

He was only 19 when this happened to him. At 19, I was getting drunk and doing pretty much nothing with my life. bless him for being a true American.

Brilliant!

Lets just leave. It's so simple. Just as soon a as Bush leaves everything will be great.

Free Darfur! Save Tibet!

Continue with the trolls now. Happy Memorial Day.

This fine man was from, and was buried in, Florida. We are known enough for the trailer trash. Don't need to be giving up our heroes to Texas. He was just in Texas for the medical treatment.

irishdncr83 2008-05-25 11:48:50 PM
Not a Marine but have plenty of friends that are. May he rest in the arms of the Lord, and blessed be his eternal soul. Gonna go soak a tissue now.
