My church I attend is North Phoenix Baptist Church, my pastor and spiritual guide is Pastor Dan Yeary,"

That'd hold more weight if McCain himself hadn't referred to Parsley as his "spiritual guide", thanking him for his "leadership and his guidance". Today St. Peter denies ever knowing the man, eh?

(what's John McCain really believe? depends which way the wind is blowing right now.)

S_Temper: This whole media attack against McCain using Hagee's words out of context was fabricated by biased liberal journalists who support Obama, but know deep inside that McCain is going to win the next election. Obama supporters unsuccessfully tried to do to McCain what Obama did to himself. Hagee was not McCain's "spiritual adviser" or anything else - Hagee just endorsed McCain. Also, Hagee SUPPORTS AND FUNDS Israel! Here's a news flash: Hagee will still vote for McCain to beat Obama, because Obama is a closet black Muslim who sympathizes with terrorists (Hamas, Hezbollah, etc.) and privately supports the jihad against Israel. Americans are not stupid. They notice when yellow journalists manufacture news stories to attack political candidates they personally oppose. We are not so easily fooled! So get ready, you douchebag yellow journalists, because McCain is going to win the next election!

Uh oh, Johnny. By your own words, Parsley was your "spiritual guide" until this Yeary guy suddenly stole the position away from him.

Maybe if the MSM does its job and reports that, we'll get Angry McCain SMASH! Moment #1.

If McCain stops sucking up to these nutters, he's going to lose the fundamentalist base. They will not be bothered to go all out like they did for Bush, but will just stay away from the polls.

Hobodeluxe [TotalFark] 2008-05-25 03:54:19 PM
you have to be stupid to think that he didn't know about those remarks regardless of whether or not he had been there in the church for 20 yrs.
if you're going to play the game of guilt by association then you have to take your lumps. You're just lucky the media is barely covering this and not wall to wall for weeks on end.

Wright's remarks when heard in context of the full sermon were nothing compared to these kooks. Doomsday prophets. WTF?
Does your campaign not vet anyone before they go seeking endorsements? Or did it not matter as much as the votes they would bring in the primary when you had to swing to the right and now that it's the general you can jettison them as you swing back to the middle?
Did you calculate that the damage from the catholics and the gays was acceptable but when the media did the unthinkable and played the part about the Jews that was the deal breaker?

John Songbird McCain the flip flopper twisting in the wind.
When you going to get rid of the rest of those lobbyists Johnny?
Black needs to go he's poison. I'm warning you he has baggage and his wife (lobbyist too)has ties to Dubai and some telecommunications people before your committee.

SemperLieSuckah 2008-05-25 03:54:24 PM
This is going to come back and kick McCain in the balls. Nearly every evangelical thinks like this guy, and it's really not an extreme view.

He's not saying "God did this to the Jews!"

He's saying, "God needed a mechanism by which to drive Jews to the promised land. The Jews went there by this mechanism, therefore this must be the mechanism."

They're both equally kooky to me, what he said is non sequitur to anti-semitism. McCain just had a knee-jerk reaction, and if the demagogues on the left have any sense in them they will use this issue to pry the religious right vote away from him.

Hobodeluxe: you have to be stupid to think that he didn't know about those remarks regardless of whether or not he had been there in the church for 20 yrs.

This is the new talking point for why Obama is bad and McCain is good. There was some tool on MSNBC the other day who spouted this over and over again despite repeated pwning by the other guests.

WFern 2008-05-25 03:59:44 PM
I love it: McCain had no problem with Hagee's remarks on Hurricane Katrina as punishment for gays or his view of the Catholic church as the Whore of Babylon. It took remarks on the Holocaust to truly get his attention.

Now he's spurning Parsley even after his bizarre views on Islam have been known for some time. WHAT A MAVERICK.

I'm still not entirely sure what was so awful about what Wright said. "God damn America" for its lingering racism and poverty? Sorry, but I consider myself a proud American and had to sadly agree with that sentiment. Bonus: the "worst" of what Obama's reverend said occured when Obama was out-of-state.

I hate to triple-post, but that still seems like an extreme solution. It's God, afterall. Couldn't he have re-established an Israeli state without... you know, killing six million of them and five million others in concentration camps? I'm not even including those killed in the war itself.

God must have really hated the Russians since he killed 20 million of them and left the rest in the care of Uncle Joe.

I was with him until the AIDS thing although I can understand the suspicion and distrust. It's just one of those things we'd have to disagree on. I don't think I agree with anyone on everything so that's not a problem for me. I wasn't offended by it. A little sad that the man had so little trust in the govt,,not sad for him but sad for us all.

....and what does that say about those 5 million other "untermenschen"? Are millions of Gypsies, Poles, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses and political dissidents all just collateral damage in God's glorious master plan?

Monstrous way of thinking.

"I didn't attend their church for 20 years."

I'm so tired of hearing this argument from the Cons on this issue. They always use the "20 Years" fallback but never seem to be able to justify accepting the endorsement in the first place. Ever.

KramericaWallet 2008-05-25 04:13:36 PM
McCain did say: "I'm very honored today to have one of the truly great leaders in America, a moral compass, a spiritual guide, Pastor Rod Parsley, who is here."

The best he can do is plea ignorance and say that he was praising this guy without really knowing almost anything about him.

Mentat: He represents the intersection of "Angry Black Guy" and "Why Do You Hate America?"

you know as mad as I was at Stephanopolous for his "do you love America as much as" crap I think it helped.
I think it was outrageous enough to call attention to the very premise of questioning someone's patriotism over such trivialities and how absurd it is.

It also helps when you have a candidate that walks the walk and not just talk the talk. he exudes class and integrity.

since when does God need man to do things for him?

and just because a lot of people believe it doesn't make it not an extremist view. I think hoping to influence your country's foreign policy so you'll bring about the end of the world is extreme.

Hope they do stay away...only way they'd agree with separating Church and State would be if the church involved was even a little bit different completely opposed to their own.

FWIW...McCain sought Hagee's endorsement. Hagee didn't just voluntarily offer it. However, the cute puppy has pissed on the rug, torn up the couch and humped the boss's leg, and now McCain is having buyer's remorse.

The easy way to refute this is "But Rod Parsley's views weren't hidden to anyone who cared to look - he's been a well known hate monger for a long time. This sudden pop up clip is easy for TV quoting, but it's been well known that he's a gigantic douche for a long time."
