(MSNBC) Interesting Motley Crue gets 4x the downloads of their music via the Rock Band game than on iTunes. Apple spokesman says "But... notice that OUR songs have an "i" in front of them. So... we got that going for us... which is nice."   (msnbc.msn.com) divider line 21

I figure it's only a matter of time before albums, or at the very least singles, are released into Rock Band/Guitar Hero at the same time as their musical release.

I hate articles like this. They're trying to take a bunch of sales numbers and form it into a story that really isn't there.

How many bought it via Rock Band or iTunes and decided not to buy it on the other? It doesn't go more into the fact that Rock Band has a catalog of 100 songs, whereas iTunes has thousands of songs with limited real estate in which to compete. The Motley Crue song is naturally going to get more exposure on Rock Band than iTunes.

Only guy who made any sense:
Tenth Street CEO Allen Kovac shrugs off the gap in sales between formats, pointing out that a sale is a sale.

As that's exactly what Motley Crue did last month, that time is already here.

i didn't RTFA, but does it also mention that the Crue song on Rock Band is cheaper than the others? That might have something to do with it.

Admittedly, I don't have iTunes or Rock Band, but that doesn't stop me from having a theory about this...

Umm...if they download it for/to/from the Rock Band website...it's immediately ready to play in the game, no? It's Motley Crue, they'll take their chances and trust that it's a good song...probably eventually buy the cd in June. That's what I would have done.

Perhaps there's a difference between songs that are listenable, and songs that are a challenge to get through in a video game.

If it's any comfort to you, they discontinued the iBook (replacing it with the MacBook) before coming out with the iPhone...

I bought the Crue song on Rock Band because it was a buck. I figured "why not?"

So Motley Crue is still music for 12-year-olds? That's not news.

Preordered? Afraid Itunes is gonna run outta bits due to demand and you won't be able to download it on day one?

iTunes runs promotions for albums if you pre-order them. Most of the time it's an extra track/video or two; sometimes they give you codes for concert pre-sales.

Fair enough. Not an Itunes user.

/wife spends enough on there for the both of us.

Here is the reason why...

On Rock Band it is $1.

On iTunes it is $1.

On Rock Band you can play it on guitar, bass, drums or sing the song.

On iTunes you can listen to the song.

Has anyone pointed out that no one likes the band anymore, and the people doing it in rock band are only doing it for another song to play?
