So can we get a crackdown on white-on-white violence, and on these hippie gatherings that inevitably lead to shooting? Where were the parents, isnt it obvious you can't trust these people to gather in public without gunplay? Its obvious folk music played a part in inciting the riot, why is it even allowed in a public gathering.

One shot, two hits, I'm impressed.

Strange thing about that... My better half was at that festival today. She saw lots of drum circles. As she was waiting at the bus stop, she saw a bunch of police/ambulances drive by her at a high rate of speed.

Glad she left when she did.

What the hell is that kid in the background supposed to be dressed as?

And it looks like some hippies kicked the shooter's ass!

Ooh, deadly Zulu Drum Protest. Haven't seen one of those since my third sophmore year.

i didn't even see him (her?) in the background at first, I was trying to figure out how the suspect was being hilarious in the shot.

/it's late.

Yeah, no mention of the kid who got curb-stomped yesterday. His "friend" was arguing with him about money, next thing you know this 16 year old kid is on the ground getting literally stomped on by a crust punk with combat boots.

/stepmom works a LOT of events, folklife is her least favorite

Damn, curb stomping always seemed like one of the shiattier ways to go out. Thought that happened more in the movies than in real life, but hey we live in a twisted world.

Geezus I'm not even going to start with this mindfark of Fail. And I studied liberal Arts and lived (and left Seattle before this asshole did) and attended this festival. Wow. Why not bring a gun to Hempfest? That'll show everybody.

I blame the farking Anarchists. Or maybe the nihlists. Can I get a "dude" reference here?

"Botello predicted that at future festivals, safety precautions would be tighter, restrictions more severe, because of Saturday's violence."

That's what the reporter wrote.

Here's what the hippie chick actually said:

"This is bullshiat, the farking cops ran up on us. We were just sitting there and I can't believe this actually happened, I bet next year they'll be all like 'keep moving; you can't play drums here'. And you know, that's bullshiat, cuz we just came down to have a great time. We aren't doing anything. Hey, are you going to be Beth's later? Cause there's going to be a..."

You know, the image that popped into my head was of this guy running into a huge drum circle with a gun & the hippies scattering all over the place. Sort of like how a flock of birds will scatter when you run into the middle of them. I just imagined this guy running into drum circle after drum circle, disrupting the hippies, watching them scatter & eventually reform into drum circles, only to then repeat the entire scenario.

Then I read the article & was somewhat dissapointed. I liked my version better.

trixter_nl 2008-05-25 05:14:52 AM
guns dont kill people, hippie drum circles kill people! dont believe the rumors these are lethal vile vicious creatures who eat babies for sport!

meat 2008-05-25 05:15:11 AM
Ah, Seattle. The only city in the world where "this is a peaceful event," is considered a legitimate response to violence.

Although it was hilarious to see two guys shouting, "this is a peaceful protest," while punching a girl who was laying on the ground outside of Niketown during the WTO police riots.

KidneyStone 2008-05-25 05:20:38 AM
I've been tempted to open fire near drum circles. They annoy me to no end.

I think the kid in the background is dressed as a parrot, why I don't know. Check out the cameraman running behind the cops...he's giving the parrot a WTF look...

tukatz [TotalFark] 2008-05-25 06:24:13 AM
A band playing nearby, which had stopped when the gunfire erupted, picked up the music again, hoping to calm the crowd.

Seattle firefighters arrived to treat the wounded and officers handcuffed the suspected gunman, marching him through the throng of people. His face bloodied, the man was taunted by many in the crowd, some of them throwing trash at him.

Classy. I hope he cried like a little girl. Like a little frog girl.

MrWilson-GOML 2008-05-25 06:24:42 AM
Seattle never fails to crack me up. Great place to visit. Wouldn't want to live there.

Wannabe slim shady brought a gun to a hippi event and got his ass kicked. Now that's some epic fail.

Don't make the tofu eaters angry. You wouldn't like them when they're angry.

PSA: Guns are for shooting, not for whuppin'.

Please use guns responsibly.

Hippies have learned that you can jump on the terrorists to deter them.

Next up, anti-hippie suicide bombers.

tukatz [TotalFark] 2008-05-25 06:30:39 AM
In the slideshow, they had to clarify: Police detain a suspect as a festivalgoer, in costume, looks on.

Perhaps that not her usual Saturday outfit.

Thank you. I think you might be right. Somebody should photoshop that kid into the background of other events.

/no skills

kinshane [TotalFark] 2008-05-25 06:48:21 AM
Why are the people most likely to make soap (hippies) the least likely to use it?

/They're stinky

Wow, this pic totally inspires a song in me.

I hate dino-hippies so much I cry blood...

Some of the other pictures are great too. There is one of the hippie girl whom got shot in the hand crying into her cell phone "I got shot in the hand! I'm gonna die!"

Well, to be fair. If you'll look at the photo, the young lady was shot in the thigh. Number one: Very painful. Number two: You can actually die from a gunshot wound to the thigh due to blood loss from the femoral artery.

Maybe I'm just not feeling the humor on the incident this morning. Got my Memorial Day Weekend compassion buzzkill on, I guess.

I'm not sure whether to be impressed or amused. I'll try for both.

Thank God that crap (so far) is staying in the "land of fruits, flakes and nuts". I have yet to see that sort of thing (drum circle-jerks, that is) in the Glorious SouthLand. However, maniacs with guns, down heah, are a way of life.

Duh, that's the Safety Gecko. He's running for mayor. Great story, would be better if gunman had shot a full clip into the drum circle. Dirty hippie scum.
