FTFA: n Grainger County, Tenn., Sheriff James Harville planned for gas prices of $2.22 a gallon when he drew up his budget last year.

Seriously? It didn't take a Crystal Ball to see these prices coming.

/And was gas only $2.22 a year ago? Seems more like 3 years ago.

Dear cop,
no trespassing on your walk, mind your own business, go eat a dounut, apeman piggy.

"It's not a rolling office that you stay in all day," Swindler said. "You still need to get out and interact with the public."

Actually, it IS a rolling office. You spend 90% of your time in there, all your paperwork you need is there, your radios, and all your equipment. Would be hard to take all that with you to walk around. I agree with the "no need to take it home". I never took the squad home, and never had a problem.

Ain't it fun? Name another commodity that's near-essential for daily life that has inflated in cost by 450% in less than a decade.

We're so incredibly boned.

There was a plan not too long ago to link water prices to oil when dealing with oil exporting countries. I'd like to see a Water Futures market and how that'd work out for all of us.

It's that time again kids, for the state to pull start the always popular 'click it or ticket' revenue generator for the state.

But hey we only start pushing the living shiat out of this at a certain time of the year because tis the season we're looking to increase our revenues suddenly more concerned about YOUR safety.

Dude, black people hate black cops almost more than white cops. A cop is a cop, they all have the same mentality, race doesn't matter. I also love how people who try to complain about race being always used in arguments, always bring it up the most themselves.

1. You guys that hate cops just 'cause are idiots that will still call 'em if your car gets stolen.

2. You're missing the bigger picture - if the cops can't drive, they won't be flying either.

Dealing with stolen cars is one of the reasons cops are necessary. Most of the interactions that cause people to resent police, on the other hand, are not necessary.

I'm curious, do you mean black cops beating white people or black people attacking cops? One is racist, the other is unnecessary to point out.

Hate to quote myself, but this bears repeating. Skip all the cop-bashing vs. joe-citizen stuff, we all know how that'll end up.

The really important thing here is that with fuel prices like this, they're going to be a LOT less flying this year. Which means they'll miss a LOT of gardens.

What, you mean beyond Thunderdome as in Detroit?

I'd love to see how Andy would deal with real drunks, real crackheads, real gangsters. Bet he'd be in riot gear after the first encounter with PCP, too.

I think some of the cost reduction is offset by the higher insurance premiums on both the officers and the bikes. Upping the number of mounted / cycle units makes perfect sense for larger cities, though, where being able to maneuver in high traffic situations is invaluable.

I work in a coffee shop and the officers stopping by to hang out has increased dramatically in the past few months. I definitely don't mind them using our store as a place to park the squad cars and save gas, as it is not the best neighborhood... but I do wonder about what will happen to the overall crime rate as a result.

Also, I saw on the news last night that some gas station had changed the price on their premium sign to read LOL 9/10.

/first thing through my head - Happy Caturday.
// sad. I know.

SquirrelWithLargeNuts 2008-05-25 09:50:58 AM
Good. Fark the cops. Carting people off to jail or taking away two weeks pay for victimless crimes, you're god damn right we're resentful.

Malinki 2008-05-25 10:00:58 AM
SquirrelWithLargeNuts: we're resentful.

Speak for yourself, forget all this 'we' crap. Better yet, run for office so you can be part of it instead of just a whining complainer. If you can't speak for yourself, or do something about it, then just shut up.

austerity101 2008-05-25 10:27:50 AM
I wish they did this in Phoenix. I would love to see cops walking around, sweating their asses off all summer. Though, sadly in this case, temperatures are significantly lower than last year.

Not even sure what my 'held' is, but for fun I'll assume you were trying to say 'head'.

As for being pointless, yeah, well, those that refuse to play normally say that. 'Ooooooo I can't have it my way and I certainly can't do anything about it! I'm helpless to do anything but complain and try to belittle others!'

See, that's called whining.

Oh good God, here comes the "shoot his knees" or "shoot to injure."

Welcome to real life instead of the movies/tv. Cops aren't trained to injure, nor are they trying. If they shoot, it's shoot to kill. Double-tap, center mass.
Why? Cause that's the biggest target.

Everything else is unrealistic.

Saw a woman sit in her Navigator with the engine running yesterday while I went in the store (I walked the three blocks).

When I came out of the store after maybe 5 - 10 mins, she was still sitting and waiting -- engine still running.

Multiply that by a few million U.S. Americans every day, then ask yourself why the Iraq and the OPEC countries can get away with $130 bbl oil...

gloomduckie 2008-05-25 12:33:39 PM
Not surprising that they need to cut back on fuel usage if they're anything like our local cops. *rolls eyes* Like, ya know, leaving the car running for an hour while they flirt with the skanky middle-aged trailer rat at the local gas station.
