Man, I loved that show. I was pretty little and didn't get all the jokes, but I watched it regularly. Great energy, and lots of color! That was at a time when many of us were finally getting color TVs. Not all jokes worked but they came at you fast enough that it didn't really matter, another one was on the way. Great talent on that show, all the way around. Sad news, RIP Dick.

"He had had some pretty severe respiratory problems for many years, and he had pretty much stopped breathing a week ago,"

Pretty impressive, dying a week after you've stopped breathing.

I was actually old enough when his show was on to get most of the jokes.

Plus he and Rowan made a classic masterpiece, much under-rated, called Once Upon a Horse (new window)

This strikes extraordinarily close to Baby Boomer hearts. I mean this is a dude they related to during a time when they were coming of age.

But don't let that stop you from sucking Social Security dry and farking the generations behind you, selfish assholes.

We paid into it for 40 years with the promise of getting it back you little troll. I also know people who paid school taxes for close to 60 years, despite never having had kids in public schools, or having kids at all, just to make people like you seem less retarded.

Now shut up, get to work, and give me my money back Corkey.

Do I remember the show? In 7th grade, it was be there or be square.

You bet your bippy.

Thank you for fixing that, and yes to all of the above.

I even remember when the FCC censors kicked The Smothers Brothers off the air for anti-war, anti-government, and anti-Nixon jokes.

TV and radio has since, been slapped down and made to obey like some docile puppy.

Delawheredad 2008-05-25 01:25:26 AM
Great show, great guy, Laugh In was the only show that could get folks like Nixon and John Wayne to make fun of themselves and have fun.

HaNaGaijin 2008-05-25 01:29:22 AM
Well someone's already bet their sweet bippy and looked it up in the Funk & Wagnall's... I have no work to do here but join in the chorus of Goodnight, funnymans.

qlenfg 2008-05-25 01:29:44 AM
Great show, although At 6-7 years old I really didn't understand anything but Ruth Buzzy hitting the old man, Arte Johnson falling off the trike, and the 'Veeeery Interestink!' bits.

Much funnier now in my old age.

The Great Gazoo 2008-05-25 01:32:48 AM
I was born in 1967 so I was pretty young at the time of the show, but my father watched it religiously. I remember being taken by a lot of characters on the show, like Ruth Buzzi's regular character, and Arte Johnson tipping over his tricycle. That's the impressions a five-year-old gets out of that stuff. I was surprised years later to find out who some of the people were. Like I had no idea Goldie Hawn was on it for a long time.

Anyway, RIP Dick.

Nice to see the old-timers gathering to bid the funnyman a fond farewell.

MajorityWhip 2008-05-25 01:38:01 AM
Like all straight men, Rowan provided the voice of reason, striving to correct his partner's absurdities. Martin, meanwhile, was full of bogus, often risque theories about life, which he appeared to hold with unwavering certainty.

OK, maybe I'm being retarded, but I seriously don't understand this last paragraph. Was Martin teh ghey? and if so, wouldn't that make this a very insulting comment?
