So what happens if you're the electric company and you forget to pay the electric bill?

McStinky 2008-05-24 09:26:04 PM
How about a network provider for an mid-sized enterprise. That's cool when it happens...

Hey, the network is gone! What? No pay bill?

That's unpossible!

"I cannot defend the billing issue; we are a municipality that pays through a voucher system like hundreds of other towns and I admit it is slow,"

They pay with vouchers that are slow. They didn't just not pay.

Everyone to be treated the same. You don't pay? We don't care if you are the President of the United States. Your phone will be shut off. No free rides..

/Or at least that should be what the phone company should be saying.

Ooo. Good story for my collection. Police departments are crumbling. I'm making interesting correlations. It's not their fault - their political leaders think they can live on marshmallows.

San Francisco wants to cut back their police even further - England is letting people out of jail, no jail spaces, no employees. Fun times.

My father works for Verizon and Verizon Wireless cut off service to the crewmen's cells at his garage for failing to pay the bill.

I worked for a telcom and we were changing over to a new main switch. When the new machine went online at midnight, the police, sheriff, 911, and area hospitals picked up their phones and had no dial tone and no one could call them either. About five minutes after midnight, I get a frantic phone call, "Drop everything and fix this NOW!" So yeah, I'm getting a kick out of this.

Sounds like some of the things in our hospital. We've had one or two things cut off due to "no payment" meaning that the hospital's payment was just slow in coming & they cut us off. As far as I know we've never not paid a bill & if we could then we'd (our specific area) would ensure that it was paid ourselves.

The case with the police office is probably that the office itself doesn't pay anything & it's all done by higher-ups that hardly ever step foot in that specific branch. The payment/voucher is slow in coming & the system automatically cuts off the phone service. I'm sure that if the people in that specific branch were allowed to pay their own bills, this whole thing never would have happened. Or it would have happened & there'd be close to $1000 worth of donuts & coffee in the breakroom.

There will be hilarity. Oh yes.

That sounds like Bell Canada. If they can fark something up royally, they will JUMP at the chance.

"I cannot defend the billing issue; we are a municipality that pays through a voucher system like hundreds of other towns and I admit it is slow," Brown said in his complaint. "However, as a matter of common sense and decency, I find the practice of "shutting off' the phone service to a 24-hour, public law enforcement agency that is responsible for providing immediate response to public emergencies reprehensible."

The check is in the mail...

/works for a state university and has to pay everything through a system that take 6-8 weeks.

Sounds like typical police line of thinking, they want to be able to get anything they want free...pay your farking bills and if you cant then take the money for the bills from their salaries.

You do know that there is such a thing as government charge cards? And I say "charge" not "credit" . In the information world now, those payments should almost be instantaneous.

Good luck using that line when you're late on your payments. The city obviously farked up the payments - they know their payments are slow, so they should either pay earlier, or arrange for suppliers to extend credit. Or fix their system. It's not like they mailed a check and it got lost in the mail.

Psst, most all police / fire departments are using "pool phone" services that are paid by the city. And anyway, V itself was surprised at the shutoff. Really, no one on FARK would have their PD phone shut off because 1 idiot in an office (wouldn't be a Cop anyway) screwed the pooch on billing.

/Sorry for your loss ma'am. Sally in accounting didn't pay the phone bill. Make another kid, and have a nice day.
