Yeah, she didn't even win the seat normally. She got elected in a special election because the previous representative died. She likely won't be back after the next normal House election.

These people never heard of rooming houses?

Apparently even for Congresscritters in Washington there are some buildings sort of known as "dorms" almost, where they take roommates and live cheap in DC, keeping their main household back in the home state.

Japan has official housing for PMs in Tokyo, similar reasoning.

Yeah. They published a list of all defaulted properties and the holders, and it looks like WAY over 50% of the failures in our county went to multiple property holders. Don't buy multiple properties if you can't afford them.

Why is this so hard for some people to figure out?

We go without a lot of times to make sure we've got the mortgage and other bills covered for the month. I work on average 50 hours a week. My wife does pretty much the same.

Yet I don't hear any of these wind bags offering to help us out and reward us for being responsible citizens who live within (or below a lot of times) our means to make sure we don't get into trouble financially.

Not whining really, because I would be mortified if I had to go to the government with hat in hand and ask for assistance and I would do everything I could to avoid a situation like that, but it kills me when I see these irresponsible assholes blaming everyone else for their problems and refusing to do what it takes to make their situation better, instead relying on the government to bail them out of their poor decisions... that goes for corporations as well as individuals, in my book.

Being surprised by the auction of your house? I'm surprised this idiot even knew how to sign her name on the dotted line. Though I supposed the loan officer would do that for her.

WTF?

There are many times that notification has to be sent out by the lender before they can even move into foreclosure, let alone auction.

"I am not financially wealthy," she said. "I am not a millionaire. - Based upon what I was going through, changing four jobs in less than one year, I think any American would understand what that does in terms of a person's financial stability."

As a member of Congress, Richardson makes $169,300 a year. As a member of the Assembly, she made about $116,000, plus a per diem for living expenses in Sacramento.

For people changing jobs, that is usually a decrease in salary that makes things most difficult

I hope that Representative Richardson learns from this and start questions these banks. I'll bet that the banks think twice about foreclosing on a Congressperson's house if they get grilled for that.

She stuck one bank for a $200,000 loss. Wonder what she'll stick the banks for on the other two loans.

She is an idiot and so are the banks that dealt with her... especially for the third house. Didn't they noticed that she already had two mortgages and that her income is not that big?

JQPublic: Subby intentionally omits, Rep. Laura Richardson (D- umbass).

Subby here... I did not mention she was a D because I'm not into politics at all. I would consider myself an independent. I agree with some of the republican views and I also agree with some of the democratic views. People should vote for the best person, instead of just voting for the candidate that represents your party.

I think the dumbest statement I hear is "the worst candidate from [enter party here] is better than the best candidate from [enter the other party here]". If you know (or even think) that the candidate from the opposite party is better for the country than your party's candidate, yet you still vote for your party's candidate, you are a selfish moran.

Um...what about personal responsibility?

You sign the loan you pay the bill.

Sorry, it is not the banks' fault for the stupidity, ignorance and greed that has messed everything up for everyone else.

Representative Richardson is guilty of fraud, as far as I am concerned. She HAD FOUR HOUSES? Even on 160k a year that is mathematically untenable to sustain.

The truth of the matter is that everyone wanted to play the game of speculation and too many people lost on their bet so now it is the bank's fault and the government's responsibility to bail them out?

The most idiotic thing is that people actually say "tricked". Are there a handful of unscrupulous lenders out there? Yes. Are the absolute majority, meaning 100% of people who signed a loan responsible for reading it? ABSOLUTELY.

It is a legal contract.

You signed it.

"I am not financially wealthy," she said. "I am not a millionaire. - Based upon what I was going through, changing four jobs in less than one year, I think any American would understand what that does in terms of a person's financial stability."

I think any American would question your choice to keep seeking jobs that require that large an expenditure of money, particularly if you can't really afford it. They would probably also question why you bothered to run for the State Assembly, and then turn around and run for Congress before you've even had time to get started in the Assembly.

As a member of Congress, Richardson makes $169,300 a year. As a member of the Assembly, she made about $116,000, plus a per diem for living expenses in Sacramento.

Since reports have her running about $18,000.00 in arrears on the house in Sacramento (not including around $3500.00 in unpaid property taxes) before it went into foreclosure, what was she spending the per diem on? And why did she not, as quite a few others in Sacramento do, rent and/or share an apartment. A California State Assemblyman I know shares a house with 3 other members of the Assembly, and actually gives back a portion of his per diem.

When it was pointed out that the average American makes far less than that, Richardson responded, "The average American is not responsible for maintaining several households."

Once again, the average American might question your choice, as well as your judgment, on this issue. Rather than share or otherwise compromise, she decided to purchase a 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath home on 1/2 an acre overlooking a park in a popular neighborhood for $535,000.00. When headed into foreclosure, she did not try to sell the property, and despite what she says there is no listing record of her trying to rent it. In fact, she did nothing until the auction had already been scheduled and was less than a month away.

Hey, she might just be another example of a person who got in over their head and ran into trouble. Welcome to the club, happens to a lot of people. But blaming everything on the lender, expressing no regret, and offering no apologies... if this whole episode is an indication of the way she works, I hope she enjoys her two years in DC, and I would suggest she not get comfortable.

She would be perfectly fine if the bank just left her alone and let her keep the house until she pays them back. That way, it's a win-win for both parties.

Are you implying the bank targeted her? I do not think she would have been fine aside from that; she had a history of defaulting. Also the bank itself lost money on the deal. Also financing her campaign with money from her equality...and as many homes as this lady has had, she is not responsible with money, she was trying to flip some homes and like MANY of the people who are screwed right now, was not prepared for the market to crash. She made a lot of bad decisions, and I think it's fair to question her policies if she is so fickle with her own money.
