I bet they'll go good with her nautical stars and kanji tattoo that means "wounded many times".

She's not cute enough for the elf ears--they require a certain delicateness of bone structure she just doesn't have.

On the right girl, though, I might put on my robe and wizard hat, though.

Did it really take you people this long to discover ear pointing?

She's an attractive girl, but since the ears are pointed I bet nobody would fark her.

I'll take one for the team.

Agreed on both counts.

That said, I think this is a rather stupid thing to do. But I think that of most bodymods.

For the record, I'd let my kid get a piercing long before I let him get a tattoo... one is removable without lasers.

Considering that most of Fark has probably seen split tongues, subdermal implants, and tatted wangs before I'm kind of surprised.

I vividly remember seeing a Time magazine article about split tongues, ear points, and post-modern tattoo concepts when I was in high school, and that was mid-90's.

soze: Considering that most of Fark has probably seen split tongues, subdermal implants, and tatted wangs before I'm kind of surprised.

I actually do follow some sites of "the scene" though I'm adamantly not involved.

Ear pointing looks okay on some people, but my main aesthetic complaint a lot of the time is that due to the method, the ears don't get longer, it's folding over your existing ear.

So some of the ears end up really oddly small, that I don't like. Perhaps someday they'll make some procedure to implant tips, until then maybe only people with big ears should get it.

Now is the part where I say "get offa my lawn" but I must admit I do have the "what about in ten years?" question.

Thing is, that often spawns "hating" in the comments, but there will be some people saying "I've had it for a long time now and never regretted it" but you ask, and it turns out they did whatever it was at 18 and are now 24, or so. Still in school. Yeah. Then you get comments where people snark on some mod as "everyone's doing it now." Yep. So in 20 years, no one is going to know if you were the cutting edge, or the follower - so don't make being cutting edge your reason to get it. :)

Mind, I do realize they also post pictures of people who are 70+ with full body tattoos and lots of piercings so obviously YMMV but... the decision, to me, is the interesting part.

xtex: For the record, I'd let my kid get a piercing long before I let him get a tattoo... one is removable without lasers.

Same here. Perhaps some limits on stretching on some parts, but yeah.

When it comes to tattoos I'd ask, "can you live with having a tattoo you absolutely hate on yourself?" Because that might happen over time. If you can say "yeah, because that would still be a part of me and I can own my silly high-school band fandom" then go for it.

I will say I'm amazed at how fast tongue splitting has gotten popular and spread around.

I'm not personally fond of a lot of the ear points I've seen myself. I've been much more interested in a couple of the ear implant projects I've seen recently. Someone had a small music note done on her outer conch which was very subtle and purty, and I've also seen an ear with a couple of small hemispherical beads implanted on the helix to give it a subtly ridged texture.

The one I don't understand is the current trend for extremely stretched lip plates. Mind you, there are people who simply have large labrets that are nicely healed and gorgeous with custom pieces they've had commissioned, but big floppy lip plates really make me go 'huh?'. Sure, it's your body and all that, but I question the merit of the pursuit when it impedes daily functions like not drooling on yourself.

I think tongue splitting is kind of neat, actually. It really doesn't impede daily functioning once healed. It's an idea I've toyed with from time to time if I could get it done in a clinical setting and if I could swing the downtime involved.

That's why I don't want mods. Whether or not she regrets it 10 years from now is on a long list of things that isn't my problem.

I'm not a fan of those either - when they get big enough, closing your mouth makes you have a frown like a large fish. Not my thing. And I must say, some of the people featured doing it do seem quite young and not yet established (meaning, they don't yet have the experience in some field that will get potential jobs to look beyond the mods).

Also it seems all the big lip plate people are going for huge white disks. Not a fan. Maybe if they had wooden ones or something it'd be a bit better look but... just not my thing.

I think we're talking about the same Modblog entry at this point. :)

The white lip plates are custom-made from Teflon because of its lightness, biocompatibility, and ease of machining, btw. It also polishes up very nicely.

I don't think she has the face for those ears, but I really have no problem with it...whatever people want to do to their body is their business. But ouch, those stitches look mega painful.

/doesn't even have pierced ears

Owangotang 2008-05-24 12:52:26 PM
If she likes it then good for her. It's creepy to see someone so willing to be an "elf" permanently, but I'm sure she's already thought it through.

So where do these people work where you can get away with this besides a body piercing shop? I don't see any of them being able to make more than $10 an hour.

It is amazing how the people on Fark can be intolerant. What if this chick wants pointed ears? Does that make you sick? Well don't look at her then. She probably has more personality than all of you together.

I find it cute.

Most of the stretching stuff I really don't get. I've seen an older guy with stretched ears who wasn't really wearing anything anymore and it just looked like his head was melting.

Although, if that was the look he was going for, he succeeded.

I dated a girl who had her tongue bifurcated. I met her about 3 months after she did it, and while is it a fun novelty, she grew to hate it after a while. She had to wear flesh colored rings that bound her tongue together when she was at work, so that her tongue would has a resemblence of a normal tongue and not piss off her boss.
So long story short, it is one of the coolest novelty body mods, it is a big pain to just find a safe place to have it done, and creepy guys like me enjoy women who have them. So overall, it probably isn't worth it.
