Hmmm...should I go the Wile E. Coyote route or the Coyote Ugly-post-pix-of-hot-chicks route? Eh, neither. I'm on break.

He said, "Most sections of the city are heavily populated, and the rifles traditionally used to hunt coyotes have projectiles that can travel for miles."

Well, if you are shooting the pests from an elevated position while the animals are on a non-ricocheting surface, the risk to bystanders is nil. It's a matter of making sure people think about what and how they're shooting.

Yes. But do you trust everyone to have the critical thought necessary when they are rushing back to get their gun with a hard on after sighting a coyote ?

/In Chattanooga ?

Rapid City, SD had a big problem with deer in town a few years ago. They took this route as well, but before you could start shooting you had to go to the police's firing range and prove you were a qualified marksman. I don't know what kind of accuracy you needed to have but I assume it was pretty high for them to let you shoot high powered rifles in town. As far as I know, it helped cull the deer population and there were no accidents.

Actually, TFA does not say that you can't do it, just that you should be careful and follow the laws. Duh.

"Therefore, citizens who do intend to hunt should familiarize themselves with the applicable hunting laws and restrictions and exercise an abundance of caution - especially for their neighbors."

Doesn't the Acme Products company take care of the coyotes?

Every year around Halloween, like clockwork, we get the local news story about how one should take a golf club or baseball bat instead of a gun to fend off any candy-marauding coyotes, lest one accidentally clip a trick-or-treater.

The first time I saw that, I thought it was a joke. Man, and I thought it was bad enough when I was a kid and you had to worry about bullies swiping your Reeses cups...

"For example, state game laws makes it unlawful to hunt, chase or kill with or without dogs any wild animal, wild bird or wild fowl on public lands and waters within 100 yards of a visible dwelling house without the landowners' permission."

Methinks that it is Judge Moon who is the DUMASS, Subby!

What kind of a world are we living in where I feel the need to read TFA to find out if the headline was referring to canines or mexican coyotes transporting illegals... turns out I was right, didn't think that type of coyote went as far North as that.

I think one of the applicable hunting laws and restrictions might be not to discharge a firearm within city limits.

So let me see if I read that right:

1: You need a hunting license to shoot coyotes if you're not on your property.
2: You can shoot on other people's property without permission
3: You have to do it safely and not recklessly endanger people or property.

They said last year that the coyote problem in the areas near the woods here in SW CT would be worse this year. I'm ready to start popping them from my window if they start eating neighbors' cats or showing up when the neighbors' kids are playing outside again (I will, of course, inform the neighbors beforehand if it gets to that point.)

That's got oxymoron written all over it.

Depends on the state and city, but generally I'd say you're right.

To be honest, i wasn't really interested enough in the topic to read the article. That's why i said it "might" be, implying that it also might not be. It wasn't so much intended to close the issue as to further engage fellow farkers in debate; thank you for participating.

Well, there would be the typical problem. There is a neighbor kid who shoots on their property (perfectly legal), but is an absolute dumbass with his rifle. It is amazing somebody's horse has not been killed.

People are stupid.

My home is right on the city limits and desperately wish I could start eliminating a few coyotes via ballisticly induced lead poisoning, without committing a felony in the process. The damned critters have gotten so bold that they've crapped on my doormat.

You might be able to pull it off. You've got a hush-puppy, right?

Anyway, ARS-13-3107.
