I'll bring marshmellows.

I have to say, it's a sure thing the dems will win. Will be interesting to see how they screw it all up and hand power to the corporations again.

I fought with the people in 04 and 00. Now I think they deserve it.

is going to set itself on fire during the fallout

Well, Obama has to have something to light up his victory spliff with.

ODDwhun 2008-05-23 08:30:49 PM
I think even if McCain wins the fundies will realize that the party has only been paying them lip service and they will leave the party. Also, if McCain wins and goes thru with his current plan of following the Bush policy maybe 12 years of stupid will be enough to convince this country that the Republicans are only damaging this country, and force the party to go back to its roots and be something we can live with before ever electing it again and that will take a long time. However, I can't really discount this country's love of inflicting pain on itself, they did elect Bush twice after all.

GaryPDX: I think the Dems will eat themselves first.

As much as it pains me to do so, lol, I have to agree. The GOP seems to have done the Dole 96 thing and given it to the "it's my turn" guy.

So we're finally gonna get rid of this "two-party system"?

When I read the headline I thought..nooo. Obama will probably win the Nom by the end of August after Hillary's painful death throws summer matinee. Then Obama will lose because Hillary's army of clams will be bitter..and it will show. Then Hillary will get the blame and it'll be the Democratic Zombie Melee..kinda like Racoon City.

GaryPDX [TotalFark] 2008-05-23 08:36:12 PM
Of course I'm kidding...I hope. I kinda like some of you guys, I don't want to see you turn into zombies.

Even the Green Party?

Suicidal Writer 2008-05-23 08:44:07 PM
The Democrat Party has already lost the election. They will most likely be ok because they will continue to make gains in Congress.

Even if McCain wins..he's a "transitional" POTUS..1 term. Then everything gets to reset for 2012..2012..why does that date sound familiar?

He'll be around the same age as Reagan at that point. With his medical history a second term is questionable. I can state with authority he will win this year. I can't say that about a second term.

Hmmm, concern troll who insists on "Democrat Party." Yep, I think I'll take that prediction with utmost seriousness.

They'll claim that McCain was doomed from the start because he failed to win the hearts and minds of conservatives during his primary run.

Yeah because the conservatives (I think here he means religious freakos) are going to vote for Obama or not vote at all. Come on.

Heh, I disagree with you normally, but not with that comment. Good point.

That said, I'm Canadian, so 90% of what Congress or the President does won't affect me, except for those silly border trade issues.

Brains are supposed to be pretty tasty, but I'm always afraid of eating them because of Creutzfeld-Jacob's disease... zombieism sounds like a good alternative for me. Plus, there's the strong camaraderie and unity with your fellow undead and strong esprit de corp which guarantees success over the filthy fleshies. The hours aren't bad, either.

Agreed. "Bipartisanship" is a euphemism for "politicians of both parties agreeing to behave destructively". The current Farm Bill is a case in point. I am really unhappy with my senator Thune.

If by "change" you mean "exactly the same thing packaged with a different letter next to its name and some slightly different rhetoric to pander to a different crowd," then yes.

The First 2008-05-23 10:11:51 PM
I honestly hope that by now Americans have learned that the Republican base mentality of Bush is wrong. McCain represents the same falshoods Bush so proudly portrays.

Vote Obama if you want integrity back in America.

RocketRod: So we're finally gonna get rid of this "two-party system"?

You don't understand, the "two-party" system is systemic. Even if one party implodes, there will only ever be two major parties, unless our election laws get a major overhaul.

Wait, do you mean the change we deserve, or the change we want, or the change we need, or the diaper change, or the change we used to get back from a fitty when we filled our gas tanks?

All this change is very confusing.

And what makes you so sure the Democrats are going to lose the presidential election?

Barack Obama is a minority and a liberal, and America does not elect minorities nor liberals. Kennedy, a Catholic, would be the exception and his victory is mired by accusations of voter fraud. People harp about change every election, yet every President looks the same and is heterosexual and is not a liberal (in the non-classical sense) dissident.

So you think Obama is gay?

cirby 2008-05-23 10:19:57 PM
Win or lose, the Democrats are pretty much screwed as far as party unity goes.

There's way too much inter-party backstabbing going on, and I already know a lot of folks who are only staying with the party in the hopes that their candidate wins. Whoever gets the nomination, they're losing a lot of party loyalists (not just "I vote Democratic," but "I vote the Democratic ticket, and my folks vote Democratic, and I'm raising my children to vote Democratic, and why aren't you a Democrat, you SOB?"). Those people are either giving up on politics altogether, or "holding on for a hero." Cue cheesy 80s montage...

It would be more correct to say that America hasn't yet elected a minority president.

And I think Obama (if he is indeed the nominee) has a good chance to be elected because, although they may not self identify as a liberal or progressive, a majority of Americans support progressive policies.

GWB for life. It can only get better. With the other guy, I'm not so sure. McCain better have a smooth talking half gringo/half mexican running as his VP. Is it too early for George Bush Jr? Love me some Bush.

youl100: a majority of Americans support progressive policies.

This has been the case for a long time. I can't think of a time when Americans supported big business over the little man. I can think of many times where they supported oppressing minorities though. Actually, considering gay marriage is not legal in most states and most Americans oppose gay marriage, nothing has changed. Americans only change when change is forced upon them.

Well then how the hell do you define liberal? I'd seriously doubt one would call Obama a liberal if even Carter wasn't a liberal?

Softens_hands_while_you_do_the_dishes 2008-05-23 10:45:28 PM
You people who hate Bush remember you'll be long gone when the 4th or 5th oil wars are being fought. He's our Teddy Roosevelt. God Bless GWB and his cold hearted America first policy. Bout time we got a cold heart back in there.

Teddy Roosevelt tore Panama away from Colombia and shot anyone who challenged the take down. He also secured Puerto Rico for future freedom loving generations. Throw the Philippines in for good measure. Troops in their barracks are a rapidly depreciating asset.

PS: Eat it libs.

whidbey [TotalFark] 2008-05-23 10:45:40 PM
A bunch of Rush Limbaugh-style grumbling about "libs" does not constitute a "civil war."

The Republicans seriously need to re-invent themselves, throw the extremists out of their organization if they're really serious about their conservative values.

I say chuck the whole antiquated way of looking at things. This is 2007, not 1951. Learn how to be a little more progressive in your thinking.
