I'll agree 100%.
Although I think it's second to the Dio reunion album with Sabbath (Dehumanizer)

I second the Dio reunion, this made me think of the KISS reunion tour in '94 when it was the four original members in all make up again,i actually hate listening to KISS songs but their show was amazing.

It's perfectly crafted. There is almost nothing that is new to my ears, just a lovely rearrangement of the things they've always done best, served up with rock solid production. Great organ sound, classic guitar, assured vocals. These guys are good.

/I'm not knocking it. Compared to them, my feeble attempts at music suck ass from here to three Tuesdays from now
//well, okay, I'm knocking it slightly. I'd rather have heard something new, dammit
///but I'm not their target market. They'll make money from this, hopefully lots of it

this is obvious garbage but still wins on an epic level just because of the lyrics. i was too young to understand how great this was, for you older guys-was this as obvious as 'relax' by frankie goes to hollywood back then? i mean seriously:

She came on like a teaser
I had to touch and please her
Enjoy a little paradise
The log was in my pocket
When lucy met the rockett
And she never knew the reason why

Feel it coming
Its knocking at the door
You know its no good running
Its not against the law
The point of no return
And now you know the score
And now youre learning
Whats knockin at your back door

was everyone over 13 laughing their asses off at this or what?

It's not the kill, it's the thrill of the chase...

That's from memory, didn't even read/hear the article.

Also, in shop class I made a paper weight of the cover art in a sand mold. Wish I still had it.

Sweet Lucy was a dancer
But none of us would chance her
Because she was a Samurai

Same here. Great album, catchy tunes I still remember years after I've listened to it. I did play the hell out of this and House of Blue Light.

I'm terrible picking up on innuendo though. I usually clue in a few years later reflecting on something said. Knockin at your back door is a prime example.

Um, that was lame. I mean if a band came out with crap like that now they wouldn't even make it onto an open-mic night at a one hitch town. I guess it must get extra credit for sentimental reasons, but I couldn't tell the difference between that and all the other crap-rock that came out in the 80's. (No, I didn't say all rock was a crap, I just think of the 80's as the 'boy band' period of rock music.)

But hey, what do I know, I like Dieselboy, Kenny Rogers, Linkin Park, Slipknot, Enigma, Outkast, Led Zeppelin, Godspeed You! Black Emporer and Eminem :P

Monumental album, from a reunion of rock legends.
'Course, it helped if you were even alive then, to remember just how big this occasion was....and they paid off in spades. Masters, all.

(Same album)

Agree, wholeheartedly.
Oops, I'm supposed to say this, right?

Sweet Nancy was so fancy
To get into her pantry
Had to be the aristocracy
The members that she toyed with
At her city club
Were something in diplomacy
So we put her on the hit list
Of a common cunning linguist
A master of many tongues
And now she eases gently
From her Austin to a Bentley
Suddenly she feels so young

Them thar's some lyrics, boys and girls. Gotta enjoy that.

What do you know. Obviously, nothing. Hush, youngun, the grownups are speaking of real music here, something you obviously know nothing about.

My problem is that I usually don't pay attention to lyrics at all, I just listen to the overall sound of a band. I often have friends point something out like that and then I have to pretend I knew all along or look like a dope.

Even though it was cool to see these guys together again I remember being disappointed because Ian Paice didn't play with his usual kick ass style and 100 mph fills. Like this... (pops)

NO.

Knocking at Your Back Door is a decent enough track (though the title track is far superior and the best on the album), but I absolutely cannot stand the rest of that album. And I'm somebody who thinks Deep Purple at their peak easily surpassed Led Zeppelin at their peak.

I remember this song getting extensive play time in the topless clubs in the late 80's.

rocker5969 2008-05-23 11:41:56 AM
memories:

DP (heh) at the Nuremburg Parade Grounds headlining a festival that included Mountain, Meat Loaf, and 9 or 10 other bands.

There was over 100,000 people there, but we had blankets spread out kids playing, and coolers full. For being in the front 50' of the center audience, it was still a safe area to get baked in. No fights, no shoving, and the kids had just as much fun as we did.

/back in the early '80s - things were different back then.

//surprisingly, Meat Loaf was a decent show also.

Absolutely. Saw them live on this tour. They rocked the shiat out of Reunion Arena.

Of course, I had to put up with Gyfrria (sp?) as the opening act. Jeez.

I so got laid after that concert, too.

I was 15 or so when this reunion happened, and it was the first time I waited outside in line all night for concert tickets with about two dozen other DP fans, a practice that soon after ended when the ticket agencies began issuing wristbands for a place in line.

Unfortunately something happened and the show was cancelled... FARK!

Idiot, just because you don't like something doesn't make it garbage. It's rock, not goddamn faggy REM ee cummings wannabe cum-swabbing music. It's supposed to be cheezy. Want real lyrics? Go see the Verdi requiem mass or something...pretentious anal douche

i meant the music was kind of garbage. you might not be aware of this, but deep purple at one time played stuff that rocked in a nongay fashion. i think we all can agree that the lyrics to this song are amazing.

I recently saw a live version of that song from 1994 just after Blackmore left(again) Satriani was amazing! They dropped it a full tone for Gillan's voice but it still rocks! That organ riff that Lord came up with is classic!
