What you did there.

I saw it.

/and I gave you a +1 for it.

DoblerMeyer [TotalFark] 2008-05-22 12:20:42 AM
Anyone else DVR this like we did? "And the winner of American Idol is".....

My wife almost fell off the freakin couch when it cut off right there. Good thing I read it online 10 minutes earlier, and already knew who won. It was kind of fun having that info to hold over her head for a few seconds.

DoblerMeyer [TotalFark] 2008-05-22 12:27:25 AM
Hmm, I see my headline was adjusted there. Oh well, a submission is a submission.

Aztec 2008-05-22 12:35:56 AM
One of the worst singers ever on Idol paired with one f the worst excuses for a marching band ever. How fitting!

/barf

FARK! I was about to submit this story from an obscure newspaper with the headline "Hello... Is it me you're looking for?" I honestly thought this was going to be one of those widowmaker stories where there wouldn't be a greenlight until tomorrow afternoon.

DoblerMeyer: Hmm, I see my headline was adjusted there. Oh well, a submission is a submission.

At least you get the greenlight. My DVR cut out at the beginning of the coronation song. No great loss, because it will easily be the weakest song he records.

Not being pretentious.

I have yet to have cable hooked up, and i don't even own rabbit ears. If i had Fox, i can promise you i would have watched because i have no self control.

ARCHIE WUZ ROBBED!

Yes, it can be told...

Autobot redialers favor pudgy scratchy voiced dull-as-a-stump bartenders over adorable Menudo-esque vocal dynamos 2 to 1.

My wife and I took to recording 5 minutes after the programs are scheduled to end by default.

That being said, I'm glad Cook won. He's actually pretty good. :)

RagingLeonard [TotalFark] 2008-05-22 02:46:55 AM
He'll have a great career. Maybe Clairol and Hot Topic can sponsor him while he pukes out his tepid mall rock across America. I sure his fanbase (which consists entirely of 11-year old girls) will love his "edgy" remakes of Foreigner and Styx songs.

That Irish chick was a better singer, but this isn't about actual talent.

Canadian Canuck [TotalFark] 2008-05-22 02:56:39 AM
Wait, American Idol is over?

Thank god I wasn't informed of this. Seriously, the past couple of seasons I was bombarded with ads for it but this time not at all.

JohnnyC 2008-05-22 03:02:03 AM
RagingLeonard: That Irish chick was a better singer, but this isn't about actual talent.

I disagree. She was alright, but she had pitch issues. :)

I think Cook will do some interesting music.

JohnnyC:

"Dawg, a couple of little pitch problems, but overall, it was ok"

I see you and Randy Jackson share the tune deafity gene.

Her pitch was fine, it was her freak on a leash husband with his face tattoo that did her in. That and singing 'Jesus Christ Superstar' with 90% of the votes being dealt from the bible belt.

JohnnyC 2008-05-22 04:00:44 AM
lexshine: it was her freak on a leash husband with his face tattoo that did her in

I thought her overuse of sleeveless outfits to show off that giant arm tattoo was a bit lame too.

I'm not tone deaf, I'm just saying she wasn't as consistent as some of the others.

I think your 11 year old girl comment is off. I think the 11 year olds were hoping for the other (and younger) David to win. I'm sure he'll be doing his interviews with Seventeen or some such mag in a day or two, and soon be adorning the lockers of junior highers everywhere.

I have no love at all for any type of popular music (I'm a jazz and classical musician) but watched a few episodes with my girlfriend this year (for the first time). I have to say I think Cook showed at least some ability to change up the music. He was the one who more often than not changed up the arrangements, and at least did something interesting with the music he had. Hopefully he can get with a good band and song writer and put something decent together. I have more faith in him than David A (who I can't help but see as a potential Josh Groban wannabee or something...ugh....).

/hates it when people sing with their eyes closed
//hates it more when everything has to have a "message"
///shut up and sing

After he won, did he have to sing a Journey song?

RagingLeonard: That Irish chick was a better singer, but this isn't about actual talent.

First, I'll have to respectfully disagree with you. I think Cook was a much better singer than the Irish chick. Secondly, the Irish chick has already proven she fails at this. (new window)

FLA Chickie 2008-05-22 08:27:17 AM
A landslide? He won with 56% of the votes...far from a landslide, no?

All I know is that I get a eight-month reprieve from my co-workers endlessly analyzing this stupid karaoke show. And these are people in their 40s, not teenybops.

Both finalists were named "David," so "David" won with 100% of the vote, a landslide.

This won't apply to most of you. Lately we've been having issues with folks going out of control gratuitously posting pics of modestly talented singers in American Idol-related threads. At some point these reach a critical mass and become not safe for work. 1-2 "she was kinda hot before the Hollywood machine got at her, gave her an eating disorder and a free bottle of peroxide" pics probably is ok, 100 is not. Somewhere along the way the line gets crossed, we don't know what the quantitative number is.

In an effort to permanently remove instigators from our community, the moderators have been instructed to be particularly harsh on anyone perceived to be posting pics to cause trouble.

This is undoubtedly going to catch some folks who innocently wandered in and wanted some fun. Sorry we have to do this, some folks got carried away, and this is why we can't have nice things.

I would recommend that folks who normally participate in this kind of thing should dial it back a bit for the time being.

Sorry for the trouble. To the 99.99% of you that this doesn't apply to, carry on.

chestermania [TotalFark] 2008-05-22 10:09:49 AM
George Michael BLOWS. Do I need indoctrination from the likes of him? Perhaps it is just me, but hearing this guy sing politics made me want to hit the mute button.

It also seems that the Idol people staged this entire ending. They appeared to create the underdog the night before and then crown the whiskey guy king for some dramatic come from behind ending.

Motley Crue tattoos on females are godawful ugly. They're ugly enough on Motley Crue. She scared little kids.

WaltzingMathilda [TotalFark] 2008-05-22 10:14:53 AM
First I'll say that I think Idiocracy is kind of a stupid movie.

But when people start saying that any American Idol will be doing "interesting music" after the show is over, I think we're getting closer to making that movie a reality.

Aiken - not interesting
Underwood - Pop Country - would still hit it
Clarkson - Pop garbage
etc
etc
etc

Yes, your favorite band sucks, but so does mine.

That is funny - I was calling her Tommy Leah for awhile because of those nasty tattoos. I think that long sleeves should be her friend - I could not enjoy her song due to cringing at the "scars".

Well, you know this is America. We should definitely spend as much time worrying about who we voted for on Idol... Oh, there's a Presidential election coming up? What do Randy and Simon think about those finalists?

Yes, the one trick pony was robbed. Kid sings well, but had zero versatility. The right David was crowned the victor. Both will surely have commercial success in their own niches though.

56 to 44 is a twelve point spread which by Idol final standards is a crushing defeat. Ask Hillary Clinton and she will tell you it is a mandate.
