Because at least half of them are good, and enjoyable to listen to.

I don't think Mötley Crüe ever managed to fully explore their musical depth during previous collaborations.

No, Yes - if Scott is clean, Yes, Never, Sure, Never, Won't last long anyways

I've got tickets to a few Black Crowes shows this summer. Their new guitarist is amazing. IMO, They're the last real American rock band.

The last time I saw Yes, they were worth every penny, especially Rick Wakeman's performance. If they had him on tour with them this summer (instead of Wakeman's kid), I would have gotten tickets.

Earguy [TotalFark] 2008-05-21 12:56:38 PM
Why should BB King tour? Just for our money?

ThrnPhl [TotalFark] 2008-05-21 01:00:02 PM
no, no idea why they were popular in the first place, go away, Why? Most of you have successful careers, no, sure, no.

Reform?
I thought YES has always been.

Colonel_Debugger 2008-05-21 01:24:18 PM
I dunno, maybe they like each other's company and enjoy playing music together.

/except Van/Sam Haggar/Halen

You could grab any five musicians, throw them in a room, and chances are one of them can claim the rights to use the YES name and go on tour.

How in the hell did New Kids on the Block get a gig with Van Halen, Stone Temple Pilots and Motley Crue????

Whatthefark 2008-05-21 01:59:35 PM
Perhaps seeing thousands of fans smiling and enjoying their music has something to do with it. You can't tell me that isn't like crack to them.

MrWhipee 2008-05-21 02:01:52 PM
If they can still pull it off, and people will pay to see it, then why the fark not. I saw John Lee Hooker play in his late 70s, and he was still awesome. Should he have quit when he reached a certain age? Hell no.

...sigh... This. Mostly. Although there have been a few gems out there, surprisingly. The vast majority of suckage seems to have happened between 1990 and 2005. YMMV

GanjSmokr 2008-05-21 02:10:47 PM
i would love to see the black crowes again. too bad they don't seem to be coming to colorado. they'll play at a casino in council bluffs but not at red rocks in beautiful colorado??

DrakeLabatt 2008-05-21 02:10:54 PM
I heard the recent Van Halen tour sucked. Motley is coming to my town in a couple months though, and the 70-year-old fatasses on the City Council are upset because of the debauchery surrounding Crue. For once I agree with them, because if there's one thing Earth doesn't need, it's another rendition of Girls, Girls, Girls.

Former Lee Warmer 2008-05-21 02:11:07 PM
Because The Police farking rule.

Well, that and Sting's lute tour didn't really set the world on fire.

MikoSquiz 2008-05-21 02:11:12 PM
Hey, Stone Temple Pilots and Black Crowes didn't completely suck 100% of the time.

chevydeuce 2008-05-21 02:12:43 PM
Going to see The Police Monday night in San Diego....The deal maker was that Elvis Costello is opening for them, so hell yes....Chance to see some good old rock and roll live....And I bet there isn't a single gawd damn dance number or costume change in the set....

/old guys rule
//new music sucks (mostly)

poindxtr 2008-05-21 02:16:48 PM
No, yes, seen 'em, F no, seen 'em, maybe, seen 'em.

Yeah, money's likely a huge factor, but there is always the slight chance that they have matured, put differences aside, and actually enjoy and miss the material they had created and want to play it again.

Mugato [TotalFark] 2008-05-21 02:19:25 PM
I don't pretend that any of these bands (or group, in NKOTB's case) ever did it for "the art" or their love of music. They did it for the money and the pussy but thy had to at some point mostly been friends and enjoyed performing.

Just knowing that with these reunion cash-ins that they all are up there and most likely hate each other and that all the joy is probably gone just kinds of ruins it for me.

Never left the road

Never stopped recording in studio

Never lost it onstage

DrakeLabatt:

I went and although they put on a great show and I had a blast I left with some mixed feelings.

Eddie was very out of practice. Apparently Van Halen thought they could hide that fact by making everything else loud enough to drown out his disintegrating chops. Wolfgang's bass sounded a whole lot like mud, I guess they needed Michael Anthony...or something.

On the positive side though, DLR was amazing. His voice sounded almost exactly like it did on the records, I was amazed and I loved every second of it. Alex's playing was wonderful that night as well.

/wants to see Yes this summer!

jj325 [TotalFark] 2008-05-21 02:27:30 PM
Except for that New Kids crap I saw them all in the 70s/80s. Live music is great, just don't go overcharging when you're past your prime (I'm looking at you Police)

Lloyd Braun 2008-05-21 02:28:04 PM

Any word on when The Thompson Twins are going to reunite?

blogs.tampabay.com

Seriously, I want to know. They put out some pretty cool stuff in the 80's.

doctorwormwood 2008-05-21 02:34:52 PM
I would totally go see NKOTB... figure this .. all the idiotic teens who were all into them and would go to a show are now 25-35 years old... that show will be packed with tappable ass of college and milf age... I would probably be oblivious to the music as I worked my way through the crowd trying to put the moves on everything in sight as their teenaged fantasies are reawakened by the appearance of their former teen idols... only now theyre old enough for me to do something about it... WOOT!

TheNewJesus 2008-05-21 02:37:30 PM
Do you think they formed in the first place to play charity functions for no income?

Of course it's the god damn money. Do you really think thats "art" you hear on the radio as you pass gas on your way to work?

NuttierThanEver [TotalFark] 2008-05-21 02:41:04 PM
The Black Crowes farking rock live good ole straight up American Rock. Can't beat it.

madden101 2008-05-21 02:45:56 PM
Black Crowes are coming to St. Louis this summer, first with Dave Matthews, then at the free Live on the Levee series in July. I figure I could pay $60 to see half a concert I might enjoy at Busch Stadium, or simply wait another month and see them without DMB, FOR FREE! It's a pretty tough choice, I know.

ChrisPC 2008-05-21 02:51:15 PM
DrakeLabatt: I heard the recent Van Halen tour sucked.

I was there; it was worth the money. Dave was as good as ever, Alex was too. Eddie was a little rusty, but still good, and Wolfgang is actually a very good bass player. If they play anywhere nearby, I'm going again.

birdistasty 2008-05-21 02:57:54 PM
STP has to get back together so that Velvet Revolver can go back to being Guns N' Roses.

/yeah..that's not gonna happen

Those 2 guys don't really look like twins. And who's the chick on the bottom?

REO Speedwagon and Styx are still touring together? I saw them, like, five years ago..

Earguy: Why should BB King tour? Just for our money?

You're kidding, right?

Old blues guys keep touring because that's what they do. John Lee Hooker was 88 and had a gig coming up the night he died. These guys don't play music because they want to be famous or because they like the money (ok i'm sure that helps), they do it because that's what they do. If you're a performer, you perform until you can't perform any more.

birdistasty: REO Speedwagon and Styx are still touring together? I saw them, like, five years ago..

Yep. Opening up for Def Leppard.

REO was pretty good. It's funny that I had forgotten how many good songs they have.

Styx was really good...except the bastards didn't do Mr. Roboto.

Def Leppard wasn't quite as good as they were when I saw them during the Adrenalize tour...but damn did they put in the effort to try. Still, they really kicked ass.

(emphasis added)

That's my point. Motley Crue, STP, Black Crowes, NKOTB, Police, Yes, Van Halen do it for the same reason as John Lee Hooker. There was a time when some bands would fill 25,000 seat arenas, but now can only fill 3,000 seat theaters, or even smaller. But they still tour.

chaos731 2008-05-21 03:31:27 PM
Yes could reform and continue to release albums and tour until the end of time, and I would buy their albums and see their shows.

I'm a bit of a prog-rock nut, so I might be alone there...

Slu 2008-05-21 03:33:03 PM
Well, the Black Crowes just put out an awesome new record, so I will go with Yes for them.
