No one should be in prison that long. He didn't even kill anyone. Money is just money, but in America it receives godlike status, so it doesn't surprise me that the American injustice system would come to such a judgment. It's pure vindictiveness. He could have received probation and had his wages garnished in order to pay back some of the money. In prison he costs taxpayers, but that isn't as important as the fact he will suffer and that is what makes the conviction sick.

thats one harsh sentence, considering if you kill someone you you wouldn't necessarily get that much time...

FTFA: A judge in Orlando stated that he would trim one month from the sentence for each $1 million that Lou Pearlman returns.

So there ya go.

This would ordinarily be a 2/10, but because it's now so predictable from you it only gets a 1/10. You need some new material.

Little harsh on the sentencing. Someone burns down my home or steals from me, he should get probation and promise to pay me back? Don't think so...that mutherfarker needs to go to jail.

It's my stuff. Stuff that I purchased with my sweat.

Even though I don't normally think people should be sent away so long for financial scams, but I also know about what he has done and gotten away with. He would start boy bands and invite the underage members over to his house and get them to have sex with them so he would "make them stars." Dude is a pedophile. He can rot in jail for all I care. I don't care if he wasn't convicted on those charges. Karma is catching up with him. Aint it a biatch?

I'm all with Subby on this one. He should get extra time for crimes against humanity because of those "bands."

He deserves to be in jail, and you have no idea how many lives he ruined by bilking people out of millions of dollars.

And yes, taxpayers are going to have to foot the bill - which sucks. If only there were a way to get some work out of prisoners so that they earned their keep.

I think the people claiming it's a harsh sentence would feel differently if they'd ever met or dealt with Pearlman. I have. My first impression was as I expected: corpulent scumbag.

But beyond this sentencing, I wonder if they'll ever nail him for the Church St. debacle?

The article is written as if the "boy bands" themselves were the scams.

And I would tend to agree!

knucklebreather 2008-05-21 10:52:12 AM
According to Wikipedia:

"For years rumors swirled that Pearlman initiated inappropriate relationships with the boys he worked with; both underage and of age. The November 2007 issue of Vanity Fair magazine investigated the claims and found allegations of such conduct made by several former boy band members, including Rich Cronin, 13-year-old members of Take 5, an early member of the Backstreet Boys, and Nick Carter"

This doesn't really sound like a guy who deserves sympathy. $1 million a month might be a bit excessive, but I like the idea of fraudsters being able to reduce their time in prison by repaying what they stole. That helps the victims a lot more than having the guy be rotting in some cell and the victims still being broke.

ihatedumbpeople 2008-05-21 10:53:23 AM
My buddy from high school killed his girlfriend and got 20 years. This guy gets 25 for a financial scam? Good thing he didn't deal dope too, or he'd be in for at least 50.

/our laws are retarded

ElRonHubbardsBalls 2008-05-21 10:53:30 AM
To any of the people here arguing that this was a stiff sentence....

Have any of you ever watched someone you love, perhaps an elderly family member, bilked out of everything that they have worked their entire life for?

lozak 2008-05-21 10:53:52 AM
Does anyone know exactly how much he stole? Even at 1 million a month, 100 million dollars would only shave off a little over 8 years of that sentence.

Still, it's nice to see that his money couldn't save him.

I believe that Janet Jackson's "Rhythm Nation" was the beginning of the death of popular music. Choreography, singers with wireless mikes, "bands" that play no instruments; these are the devil's work, brothers and sisters, beware of Satan for he shall surely come dancing and lip-synching into your life!

Ya he should have been thrown in jail for a lot more if he killed her intentionally. They should increase the penalty for murder. You shouldn't get to live out the rest of your life from age 30something until 80 something as a free man if you kill someone else intentionally.

25 years, given his age, and that he doesn't look to be in too good of health to start with, I'm betting he'll die in prison. I'm also betting he'll get his ass handed to him (if not shivved) just as soon as someone figures out that he created boy bands.

squishy2 2008-05-21 11:00:01 AM
Hi all

This won't apply to most of you. Lately we've been having issues with folks going out of control posting N'Sync pictures in boy-band-related threads. At some point these reach a critical mass and become not safe for work. 1-2 N-Sync pics probably is ok, 100 is not. Somewhere along the way the line gets crossed, we don't know what the quantitative number is.

In an effort to permanently remove instigators from our community, the moderators have been instructed to be particularly harsh on anyone perceived to be posting N-Sync pics to cause trouble.

This is undoubtably going to catch some folks who innocently wandered in and wanted some fun. Sorry we have to do this, some folks got carried away, and this is why we can't have nice things.

I would recommend that folks who normally participate in this kind of thing should dial it back a bit for the time being

Sorry for the trouble. To the 99.99% of you that this doesn't apply to, carry on

.... And made to listen to N'Sync/Backstreet Boys songs 24/7. After a couple of days of that shiat, he would douse himself with water and sprint to the electric chair.

he stole over $300 Million from investors and banks (though not in the Jesse James way). Rarely do these white collar criminals have to repay what they stole (looking at you, Enron). I like the judge's little twist here...if he pays back the money, he reduces his sentence. It's not as fair as getting all the money and returning it to the proper owners of it...but it's a hell of a good plan B.

Don't get it backwards. just because we under sentence for murder, doesn't mean we should under sentence for everything else to make it more 'even'. Murder should carry a MUCH more severe penalty.
