Emo...the only descriptive word modern youth knows how to use.

Surely an organized march-and-wail at the first sign of criticism will convince the writer otherwise!

Blaud 2008-05-21 05:36:31 AM
there's no use mocking them, they feed off of our ridicule and their own tears. We'll just have to hang them.

From Wiki:

My Chemical Romance's music has been described by the media as "pop punk","alternative rock", "post-hardcore", emo,and "punk revival". The band themselves described their music as simply "rock" or "violent, dangerous pop" on their official website, as well as rejecting the term "emo" to describe their style. Although a source quotes frontman Gerard Way stating that they are "What-else-ya-got-emo", Way has recently stated in an interview that they were never emo, as he says emo is "a pile of sh*t."

My Chemical Romance cite their main influences as Queen, Thursday, Iron Maiden, The Misfits, Morrissey/The Smiths and the Beastie Boys. Gerard Way has said, "We love bands like Queen, where it's huge and majestic, but also bands like Black Flag and the Misfits, who would go absolutely crazy." Way has also said that his band patterns their career after that of The Smashing Pumpkins, another band they admire. Geoff Rickly, the lead singer of Thursday, has compared My Chemical Romance to Ink & Dagger. Growing up, they were also very influenced by horror films and comic books, and therefore their music, lyrics, and image all have overt elements of fantasy, storytelling, horror, and theatricality.

-------
I wish people would stop calling them emo. If they would stop listening to what everyone else says and actually open their ears to the lyrics they'd realize that most of the songs are anti-emo and have a positive tone to them.

Oh, and this:

Gerard Way struck out against fans and bands that classify My Chemical Romance as "Emo", saying that; "I think emo is farking garbage, it's bullsh*t. I think there's bands that unfortunately we get lumped in with that are considered emo and by default that starts to make us emo." and, "I think emo's a pile of shiat." This caused much outcry from fans and critics alike.

Super-group? Really subby? So everyone in MCR was famous for being in other bands first?

/This word "super-group"...
//And no, they're not that super either.

I'm not usually one to defend "emo", but MCR really have outgrown that label - just as many groups leave behind their early sound.

If you're a fan of Queen, Cheap Trick and 'The Wall', you're bound to enjoy 'The Black Parade'. I can't say the same for their earlier stuff which I can't stand though.

Um...what?

After making fun of My Chemical Romance for a good while, I caught The Black Parade on TV one night and noticed the very well-honed Queen influence. I also found that there were some other very respectable things happening with that MCR's music.

Not that I am going to rush and buy anything of theirs, but I will no longer make fun of them.

Except to say that Slayer will kick their pansy asses.

This was my reaction to them as well. They actually put on a good Queen/David Bowie-type performance. Not exactly my favorite kind of music, but it's not bad at all.

No joke, a large majority of MCR fans are really dumb. Seriously.

I will say, though, that the Daily Mail journalists are scum. I really dislike them.

Also, My Chemical Romance really isn't emo. At all. Listen to something like..."House of Wolves or "Mama" (it has Liza Minnelli! Who doesn't like Liza with a Z?)

They don't suck cause they are emo, they suck because they suck, nothing more to it. All these emo kids are making our/my generation look like absolute shiat. WE AIN'T ALL WHINY OVER EMOTIONAL ATTENTION WHORES! What happened to rock being somewhat hard and bad ass, not it's all about being as soft as possible, fark that.

orangehat 2008-05-22 12:58:38 AM
I wonder if maybe the emo kids would be happier if they weren't all dressed in pants that are three sizes too small.

So, if I write a song that sounds exactly like Death Metal except the lyrics are about puppies, kittens and rainbows...is it not a Death Metal song?

Wasn't their first hit titled "I'm Not O.K." or something like that? That could be tattooed on every emo kids forehead.

So which genre is the one that sings about pain and disillusionment, is it metal or emo? I'm pretty sure the other one sings about rainbows and unicorns. Just can't remember which one is what.

It's emo. Last i checked metal preferred violence (aimed at others).
Not that I would listen to either.

Some of them seem to be taking it more seriously than others:

Actually, there are a couple of retards going around making videos saying how they're going to commit mass suicide at the protests, just to get a rise out of people. It's kind of shiatty.
