Subby there's a difference between taking a break and splitting up the band.

BobtheFascist 2008-05-20 12:23:19 PM
They're taking a break. Lots of bands do that after a long tour.

Pocket Ninja [TotalFark] 2008-05-20 12:51:17 PM
Hey oh.

mediaho 2008-05-20 01:02:30 PM
They were great before they found that formula.

beve [TotalFark] 2008-05-20 01:24:28 PM
Personally, I found their last album very boring, and I hope they rediscover their mojo.

dillenger69 [TotalFark] 2008-05-20 01:32:07 PM
They had some good stuff in the early 90s.
Since then, not so much.

eddie van heinous 2008-05-20 01:34:02 PM
...latest album?

I didn't even know.

productiveslacker 2008-05-20 01:37:48 PM
As a fan through the 90s, I've lost a lot of interest (in all current music). They been playing for 20 years, pretty amazing. Hopefully they will enjoy a break and continue in the future.

Mother's Milk is still a great album

Sybarite [TotalFark] 2008-05-20 02:01:36 PM
Well, they aren't selling albums like they were at their peak (Californication).

letdogsvote 2008-05-20 02:10:21 PM
Way.

Over.

Rated.

NuttierThanEver: Mother's Milk is still a great album

The problem is that it was their last good album, and it was released in 1989. And I say that as a lunatic fan who's seen them multiple times and who stood in line to buy BSSM. I don't know if it's a question of sold out, burned out, mellowed out, or what, but that was one of the most promising bands in recent memory and, therefore, one of the biggest disappointments.

dillenger69: They had some good stuff in the early 90s.

I'd keep going back. "Freaky Styley" and "Uplift Mofo Party Plan" are both pretty darn good.

for good or for awesome 2008-05-20 03:44:31 PM
Memba that one song of theirs that goes: Bum Wakka Wakka,Bum Wakka Wakka Doiiing!
That was pretty cool

Madbassist1 [TotalFark] 2008-05-20 03:56:37 PM
flea is great, fruschianti (?) is great, the drummer drums.

All of them together cannot overcome the unstoppable vortex of suck that is that goddamn vocalist. Never have I seen a "musician" be so successful with such a complete lack of talent. He is not a musician. he is the anti musician. He met a bunch of skilled guys who couldnt find anyone else and rode it to the top. I hate that bastard with a passion.

mrEdude 2008-05-20 03:57:03 PM
didn't split?

damn.

oh well, even if they did
they'd get back together later to cash in.

/twenty years ago they were fresh

This means we now have a 2 year reprieve from songs with "California" in the title. Use them wisely America.

never fear, john frusciante's tenth solo album is due out at some point soon, i think, hopefully...

By doing that so much, it cause every radio station out here to play those Cal. songs non-stop, which is highly annoying.

I second the hate for Keidis. Talentless lyrical hack.

He's turned in to Adam Sandler's two bit Cajun Man character over the past ten years.

I see Flea has hanging out with Metallica (See May 15 entry). Dunno where that rates on the suck index, though he is entertaining to watch.

I didn't like their last album, but the previous 3 were excellent. Hopefully when they come back they are reinvigorated.

how can you two hate on Cali? it's the bestest place in the world. the people who live there say so

the post-heroin Frusciante version of the band is the only one i really liked. the past few albums have been really great... except for the vocals thing.

hopefully Frusciante will go on to collaborate with some talented people instead of twiddling knobs in his home studio for solo releases.

I don't hate California. I hate the incessant stream of unoriginal songs from the Chili Peppers involving the state in some way shape or form.

I want to hear your post-heroin opinion. You must be on something if you think Soul to Squeeze was anything but garbage. Go listen to Mother's Milk when you sober up.

When I saw them on the Stadium Arcadium tour, they didn't play a single song from Mother's Milk. I was saddened.
The Mars Volta opened. I was quite impressed with them.

Taking a hiatus does not equal breaking up.

No bands actually break up anymore... they just go away.

I personally have been a fan of thiers since Mothers Milk. What a treat it was for me to disover their back catalogue.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmG9XQvd8rA
link to "Fight Like a Brave" when they were just kids. Thrill to the metal of Hillels guitar, dig the Flea slap and when Anthony fancied himself a rapper. Dig the fun, creative clip back when videos were fun and creative. Anthony as Ollie North! They drop out of the sky! 3:46 of pure win.
They will be missed.

TSE 2008-05-20 05:46:43 PM
ditto on Mother's Milk... one of the best albums of the 90s, from 1989. They were so on fire! "Move over rover, and let Mr. Huckleberry take over". Their cover of "Fire" was one of the few covers of any songs that stands up next to the original...The last few albums have been terminally boring. I tried to like "Stadium Arcadium", but gahhhhzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZzzzzzzzz.

I listened to "Freakey Styley" and "The Uplift Mofo Party Plan" a few weeks ago, hadn't heard them in years. THAT was the Chili peppers!

this pleases me.

i know that there's far worse bands out there, and in general if i don't like a band you won't get more than a "meh" out of me, but for whatever reason these guys have annoyed the piss out of me for years and years now. same goes for The Police. those jerks.

...but all that being said, i'm sure the 2012 reunion world tour is inevitable.

kanesays 2008-05-20 05:56:28 PM
I, too have a problem with Keidis. I firmly believe him to be the worst lyricist in the history of modern music.

His lousy vocals range is another subject entirely.

//I mean he makes Ronnie James Dio look good.
