I once wrote a poem "I Want to F--k Liz Phair"

The title pretty much covers it

I'll be sure to bring a pillow and get all comfy for the nap.

I have no idea why this got a greenlight, but since it did, I'd like to assert to the world that I would bang Liz Phair like a screen door in a tornado.

RagingLeonard: like a screen door in a tornado.

You and everyone else in this thread.

I'm thinking about heading down to NYC for this...could be quite the show.

Holy Crap on a pogo-stick! But why start the tour in New York? Guyville started in Chicago.

I used to have a huge crush on Liz Phair, especially when this Rolling Stone issue came out:

That's not Phair.
P.S. - Please add more dates and cities to this tour, Liz Phair.

Flower is one of the greatest songs of all time. All the lyrics are entirely NSFW, so I won't post, but take a listen for yourself. It's like a wet dream in song form... or something.

Uzzah 2008-05-20 11:16:56 AM
Wel,, since we're on the subject, is anyone else bothered by the first bar after the drums enter on 6'1", the first cut off "Guyville"? I'm not sure what it is that bugs me about it -- I think Liz's guitar line jumps the beat a little in that first measure. I love the whole album and especially dig that particular song, but I always cringe a little bit at the opening.

For those of you not familiar:

Phair (and Hynde) were seminal (heh) tough girl songwriters. Lavigne and Morrissette came (heh) after, riding on the work that she'd done. She's the real thing. Early songs were blends of pottymouth feminism or surprising emotion.

However: she's notoriously shy on stage, and has a hell of a time keeping in tune. (I think it's charming, like Dylan in a way). Her songs also have unusual chords, unusual melodic lines, can be a bit obtuse when she wants, and she had a brief period where she produced a "real" record and sounded like everything else on the airwaves. Big mistake, although she did get some airwave time out of it.

Like Neil Young, she's not for everyone. But she's a smart, horribly talented songwriter.
Unlike Neil, she's a total hottie.

Good song for beginners: Supernova (new window) , or Polyester Bride.
My favorites: Uncle Alvarez, What Makes You Happy, and the heartbreaking Table For One.

Smitty, you had me at Liz.

/even when I was 12

That was an overrated album.
Very good at times, but far too long.

/less is more, baby

The Divorce Song kicks ass. Phair > Morrisette

My number one pick for best album of the '90s. It's not one second too long.

mesmer242 2008-05-20 04:13:02 PM
I met her after a show in 99, but then someone stole my copy of exile in guyville that she autographed. I've always been pissed about that.

/i sing like a good canary

antiMUSIC?

Yeah, that's real edgey and against the grain. I quit reading the moment I saw the words "Green Day".

/suddenly wants a farking set of Bridgestones Tires.

Lyrics to Flower
"Everytime I see your face I think of things unpure, unchaste
I want to fark you like a dog
I'll take you home and make you like it
Everything you ever wanted
Everything you ever thought of
Is everything I'll do to you
I'll fark you and your minions, too
Your face reminds me of a flower
Kind of like you're underwater
Hair's too long and in your eyes
Your lips a perfect "suck me" size
You act like you're fourteen years old
Everything you say is so obnoxious, funny, true and mean
I want to be your blowjob queen
You're probably shy and introspective
That's not part of my objective
I just want your fresh, young jimmy
Jamming, slamming, ramming in me
Everytime I see your face I think of things unpure, unchaste
I want to fark you like a dog
I'll take you home and make you like it
Everything you ever wanted
Everything you ever thought of
Is everything I'll do to you
I'll fark you till your dick is blue"

I still remember exactly the first time I heard this song. Dorms, UVic, 1994, John's room. The song instantly became (and still is) one of my favourites.

/will try to catch the San Fran show.

mfaby 2008-05-20 08:50:52 PM
A hottie but a farking numbskull, too.

Her cd is an 'answer' to the Stones' "Exile On Mainstreet"?

1) WTF cares what some chick thinks about a great rock and roll
album?

2) WHY TF does she 'think' it needs to it needs to be answered?

Neither of these stop me from wanting to bite her lower lip, but
still, my points stand.

Dee Snarl 2008-05-20 08:56:23 PM
Liz Phair is a textbook example of someone who tried, and failed, to sell out.

/see also Butthole Surfers

///I'd hit it
