It makes me sad to see Benjamin Orr looking so young... he's rather skeletal now.

First three Cars albums rule, then "Shake It Up" had about three good songs on it.

Touch and Go (low volume) (new window)

Why, yes. This *is* the greatest Cars song ever.

Ditto. Probably 8 of my 10 favorite Cars songs have Orr on vocals. Ric Ocasek has already been reincarnated (Shawn Christensen of stellastarr*) and he's not even dead yet.

Personally, I always considered this their crappiest single ever. Back when it was on the charts I got sick of it. Sappy ballads suck.

Still hate that Ben O. had to go so soon, though.

Not only my vote for WORST Cars song ever,

one of the dumbest and most pretentious song/videos of the 80s.

I truly adore the first three Cars records and regard them as genuine landmark rock albums but by their 4th record they got way too slick and 80s-ish for me.

"Down Boys" gets my vote for greatest Cars track.
Cool and ironically funny lyrics and a real up-tempo rocker.

I agree, subby. And I hate sappy ballads. This is an exceptional ballad.

This is my least favorite Cars song. Not that that matters.

I cant believe anyone would ever think this was the greatest cars song ever, it was the worst song they ever released.

While the Cars have a ton of good tunes, any other song you can name is better than "Drive".

Elliot Easton rules

I never knew The Cars had two lead singers....
was this guy and Ric O. in the Cars at the same time?
or was this guy a replacement for Ric?

now i know who played/sang this song... i never knew till now.

Am i the only one who likes the big thick (electronic??] snare sound on some 80's songs?
this song has a good example of it.

Elliot's the worst thing about the band. And I don't care if people like this song or not- Ben sings it beautifully. RIP

Elliot had a unique tone for the period, played memorable parts, used some outside the box chords, and his solos/leads stuck in your head.

Great vocal performance for sure, but a mediocre song.

....non musician.

Even people who claim they "despise" the Cars have always admitted admiration for Elliot Easton. As slick and polished as the Cars indeed were (thanks to Roy Thomas Baker production) they were ALWAYS known for their very tasteful and innovative guitar parts.

Ben Orr was The Cars' bassist, and did lead vocals on a handful of songs on each album. It's Ben who sings "Just What I Needed" and "Let's Go" as well.

Saw The New Cars (pops) a short while back.

Elliot Easton still rules, but add on Todd and Kasim and you've got a great great show!

craigdamage has got it right, Drive blows.

Best Cars song?
Maybe if you were a fourteen year old girl when it came out.

This. That song is simply stellar. They did good on "Let the Good Times Roll", too. There's some gems on "Door to Door", such as the title track. And who can forget "You're All I've Got Tonight." Such as good band...

I recommend you all check out two of Ric's solo albums: "Troublizing" and "Nexterday." The former is more 'modern post-grunge" or something, as Billy Corgan co-produces much of it and helped write some of it and played on it. BONUS: Greg Hawkes, Cars keyboard players, appears.

"Nexterday" seems, to me, most reminiscent of his work in the Cars. I like it, but I usually end up wanting to put on the Cars when I hear this album... hehe .. .STill, well worth checking out ...
