What a dope. You're supposed to say "First, I need to thank God..." because God always takes time out from the floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, cyclones, wars, earthquakes, tsunamis, genocide and wild fires he's causing to pick the winners in sporting events and entertainment awards.

/yup, he's dopey

As much as think most award shows are just giant celebrity circle-jerks, he is right. If you're going to have an award like that given out, it shouldn't be awarded to whoever can get the most clicks on a web-site. Otherwise, people like us can come along and royally screw it up and get Rick Astley played at Mets games and Will Wheaton elected as a hot chick in a magazine contest.

This. And if anyone BUT the winner said it, they'd be accused of hollering sour grapes.

Chesney's right.

I was going to pimp slap you for asking "who" but since you did your research this will slide.

Not a fan of country but after reading the article subby can go ahead and stick it. The guy makes a good point.

Didn't read the article, just saw it on CNN, thinks he has a point. He did seem really overly pissed though. In the end, no one really cares about these 2+ 5+ 10+ years later. Even hard core fans forget eventually.

A while back...it's been years...there was a survey about most popular something. Hank, the Angry Drunken Dwarf, was winning hands down due to clicks. It was fairly amusing.

I couldn't give two shiats about country music in general or Kenny Chesney specifically. However, I would say that his is a particularly astute assessment, and that to take his comments as a slam on fans is to take it out of context.

Oh, and I'd fark the squint out of his ex-wife, given the chance.

Cervantes3773 2008-05-19 09:18:58 AM
One thing is for sure, he pretty much ensured that he won't get it next year.

/And frostus, the reason they're supposed to thank God is that without him, they wouldn't have any fans OR material.
//See, it's all his fault that people have crappy lives or undergo hardship, and Kenny is kind enough to sing about it.

TFA: With the win, Chesney ties Garth Brooks and trails only Alabama, which won five in a row.

As a fan of real country music that sentence causes much sadness Not one of the performers in that sentence are country music artist. POP country blows!

Shoulda known it when they closed the Opry down
Things are bound to change in that town
You can't grow when you rip the roots out of the ground
Looks like that Nashville rash is getting' 'round

Ain't it funny how things can really change
Rock and roll back in the 70's are country hits today
Breaks my heart to see my heros fadin' away
The victims of Nashville rash, it's Nashville's ways

Help me Merle, I'm breakin' out in a Nashville rash
It's a-looking like I'm fallin in the cracks
I'm too country now for country, just like Johnny Cash
And Buck Ownes and Faron Young and Johnny Bush
Ad Johnny Paycheck and Charley Pride and Loretta Lynn, Mmmmmmm
Help me Merle, I'm breakin' out in a Nashville rash

Would like to have a word with you regarding you ACM entertainer of the year award.

TFA I really want to say the reason I'm in country music is because my grandfather would make me listen to Buck Owens when I was like 4 years old, and I think Buck was the first male vocalist for this organization. I'm so honored to carry the torch for another year," Paisley said.

Approves.........

And boys and girls always remember as the late great Waylon Jennings said, "Garth Brooks did for country music what pantyhose did for finger farking"

You're confused. Chesney won the award and then criticized the way it was awarded. When Kanye loses, he criticizes anyone who had anything to do with the voting process.

"The entertainer of the year trophy is supposed to represent heart and passion and an amazing amount of sacrifice, commitment and focus," he said.

THIS

say what you may about Kenny, but it was a big kudo to the guy for his years of non-stop touring and recording. The idea of shiaty online voting system for Entertainer of the year was asinine and it blew up in the faces of groups ((remaining un-named)) who were offering free downloads for every vote/plee they received.

One of the most frustrating things for me as a music fan is the state of country music.

There is truly great country music is out there. Intelligent, emotionally resonant, complex, and clever music that is uniquely American. Music that makes me proud to be an American.

But so much of the stuff on the radio and in the stores is pure utter dreck. Pandering, cynical, prefab, soulless crap. Just fake corporate disposable crap.

But the good stuff, that will always win out. Are people going to be listening to Rascal Flatts in 10 years or Del and the Boys? Faith Hill or Alison Krauss? That is what keeps me interested in Country music. There will always be transcendent music being made. It might take a pick-axe, a headlamp, an a GPS to find it but it is there and it will endure.

FTA: Jack Ingram won top new male vocalist. The 37-year-old Texan released his first album in 1992 and bounced around a number of record labels before his career took off.

Congrats to Jack Ingram, but this just goes to show how laughable the whole awards thing is.

"Before his career took off" should read "before a record company finally decided to promote him and his music".

Jack's a great songwriter and a fine musician. He's been a true 'road warrior' and has been developing a devoted following both in and out of Texas for nearly 15 years now -- I've been a fan of his music myself for about 8 years now.

Jack Ingram deserved this award in 1998 -- not 2008. He was just never given a chance to hit it big until now.

Meanwhile, Kellie Pickler is getting ready to release her second record. I'm sure it's already triple-platinum.

Fark Corporate Country Music.

BRAD PAISLEY GOT ROBBED!

As a country music dj and a HUGE KC fan...I do have to agree with this statement.
Year after year, Brad Paisley gets robbed. He's a helluva songwriter but it goes unnoticed.

I really like Jack Ingram(except for his cover of Lips of an Angel) so its nice to see him finally get recognized.
Keith Anderson is another one that has pretty decent stuff but rarely gets nominated.

Today's country music is for those who don't like CHR(pop music) and thinks Adult Contemporary music(your Magic stations etc) are too soft.
Its that "just right" in between music.

I used to work at a Country Radio Station and will readily tell you that there is good country music out there. Chances are most people will never hear it.

Smokin Armadillos?
Brother Phelps?
The Ranch (Keith Urbans band before he went solo, MUCH better than the tripe he puts out now)

Faith Hill and Tim McGraw types have put out some of the most atrocious "music" that was ever laid onto the ears of the general public. And sadly, that is what most people will think of when they think "country" music.

CDP Grow up!

TV isn't running I Love Lucy and The HoneyMooners anymore. So why should country music play the same OLD artists tear after year.

Hank's dead and Waylon Jennings became a bitter old coot.
Times change, move on!Have some oatmeal with Wilford Brimley, you'll feel better.

Kenny is right. Fan votes should be separate. Simple solution is next year have a FAN'S CHOICE and ENTERTAINER category!
