If I remember my Aesop's Fables, the mouse and frog there are heading for a bad end.

The policedog and cat picture just screams for a lolcat caption, somehow.

Why are all these tigers and monkeys abandoning their babies? Is it a result of being raised in captivity?

A lot of these made me very sad...but some are very cute. I loved the macaque and dove.

Could be. I'd also like to know how old the mothers were (if it's their first offspring) and if the babies were all delivered naturally. First time mothers in many wildlife species can do a pretty crappy job. And c-section babies have a higher incidence of their mothers ignoring them. Something about the actual act of passing through the birth canal stimulating a hormonal response that gets mom in the motherin' frame of mind. I've heard about it in cattle, mostly, but it seems like it would probably apply to multiple species.

/helped c-section a cow last Friday
//yeah, she ignored the baby

It's definitely worth it. Cats can be incredibly affectionate and social creatures. Unlike dogs, however, that requires a lot of handling and positive reinforcement while they're still kittens. Give a cat a lot of attention and handling from the time you get one (2 months old) and they can be as affectionate and loyal as any dog.

I have 3 that are like that now.
