Well then what's the problem?

"Do we really need scantily clad women to sell coffee?"

Excellent fodder for an in-depth discussion of the difference between "need" and "would kind of like to have."

Wheeler, who said he employs his own 17-year-old daughter at a stand, doesn't understand what the fuss is about.

Neither do I, but that's kind of weird.

BunkyBrewman [TotalFark] 2008-05-18 10:30:15 AM
I'm not sure how these places would gain a long term advantage. (as the other places are snarking about) Granted, they gain business in the short run from the grab and go voyeurs who will get their caffeine fix in the morning. BUT, they will also lose a considerable amount of business to those who choose not to patronize these places.

Seriously, it's not the big deal. (ok, except the one owner employee his 17 year old daughter... not sure what to say about that one)

"I'm not against people making money," said Kimberly Gainza, 37, of Everett. "What I'm against is how they're going about doing it. It's not right -- on a road where everybody can see."

You mean where people can see the same kind of thing they see at the beach? Or much much MUCH tamer stuff than they can see on the internet?

I hate coffee joints, so I'm not going to patronize the establishment. But if a friend of mine wants to go, I'll sit down with him while he has his latte.

"In my opinion, it's the end of our business," said Tina Taylor, who has owned Giddy Up 'N' Go Espresso south of Everett for eight years.

That's the risk you take in a capitalist society. Someone will do what you do, only more successfully. If you wanna cry about it, I'm sure the people who invested in BetaMax would love to hear it.

I don't see the problem here. If the females want to serve coffee in bikinis, let em. I do have a few questions, "How much for a latte" and "Where does the line start"?

Captain_Kris 2008-05-18 12:09:30 PM
Hmmmnnn...

3 years ago the Anchorage paper ran an article about the two young ladies that ran their own coffee stand.

Rather popular place. The window was well above the car and while they were not clad in bikinis those shirts were rather loose as they bent down to serve you.

Well, the article said that no decency laws are being broken and it doesn't sound like these places have been in trouble with the health department, so what's the fuss? I think it's a pretty good idea and besides, it can't be any worse than a place like Hooter's serving food and employing pretty women in scanty attire. Also, I liked the idea of male baristas in speedos and bowties. It would be like a quick Chippendales show, yet all I'd have to pay for is a cup of coffee and a tip. I wish someone here in Cowtown would give me gorgeous men making lattes for me and my girlfriends...I'm looking at you Human Bean!

The combination of java, breasts and drive-thru is one of the most revolutionary breakthroughs in 21st century society.

It's an incentive to do your commute earlier. It gives worker bee males a reason to actually punch in. The chicks get better tips and a steady stream of dates if they want. And the increased blood pressure from caffeine enhances turgidity.

I fail to see a downside. This is the free market's finest expression.

I gotta speak up on this one!

In the town I used to live in, the owner of a somewhat obscure gas station had a freakishly brilliant idea. He asked his wife to help hire new people. She only hired girls she felt competition with. YES, IT WAS VERY SHALLOW.

They paid twice what the other gas stations paid, and employment was on an invitation-only basis. They culled their clerks from local restaurants and bars, and quietly asked the girls to wear tight and/or revealing shirts.

As a result, his one gas station made more money per week than almost any other gas station in town made per month, despite there being hoards of other gas stations in much better locations. His was about a mile away from the campus, which is where he said most of his regular customers came from.

The best one of these places in Washington (port orchard i think) is Natte Latte. My friends wife worked there for a while and was in their calendar. Here's a picture of when a group of them visited our ship a couple years ago.

There was a hair salon not far from me that did this. The girls all wore teddies or bikinis and high heels--no nudity and nothing really very different from what you see on most Victoria Secret mannequins now. It was really popular, especially when the town kept trying to get it shut down--surprise health inspections constantly, creating new "decency zoning" laws because it was 3 blocks away from the high school, etc. They were able to ward off every attack and the publicity was great for their business.

2 years later they closed shop. BunkyBrewman has it right: Only men (whose wives or GF's would let them) went there and I guess once the novelty wore off, they realized they could get the same haircut for $10 less at the barber shop.

/I had no problem with the shop--gave my husband a gift certificate there for his b'day one year.
//He said the girls were pretty and it was an interesting day, but his regular barber gave him a better haircut.

I suppose when you live in a tautologigcal economy where only bank notes have value, stapling titties and ass to everything you're trying to push seems logical.

Then again, why not just turn everything into a whorehouse and give the food away?
