I didn't mind them back in the day.

They butchered that song. And if you are going to do a T-Rex song, there are many better songs to choose from.

/RIP Marc Bolan

I've always liked Robert Palmer's voice. That and that limber dancer made me enjoy this version of the song.

But you can't touch the original.
Lip sync but cool (new window)

/RIP all but the drummer in that clip.

It was on of my favourite CDs back in the day.
Some like it Hot was great along with some other songs.
I don't think that they butchered Get It On either.

I like it hot

My first concert was The Power Station in Dallas, TX at Reunion Arena. Except it was Michael DesBarres filling in for Robert Palmer.

Uh - how does that NOT make it a supergroup?

Man, Robert Palmer was incredible. Sneakin' Salley Through The Alley and Some People Can Do What They Like are fantastic. Pressure Drop is decent too. After that, not so much (to me anyway).

I'll go against the grain here and say that the remake is better than the original. Power Station (and Tony Thompson's drumming in particular) did their best to bring some funk to a song that consists almost entirely of the same riff for three and a half minutes -- and you're only allowed to do that in the first place if your name is Bo Diddley.

WOW... that was incredibly horrible. I only made it to 0:55.

Oddly enough, Ministry actually did a decent cover of Bang A Gong.

I liked Arcadia, that other Duran Duran spinoff.

John Taylor is the SHIAT on bass.

I loved this album when I was 15. I still love that drum sound for some unknown reason. Listening to the album as an adult, I find myself listening to the drums mostly.

I really liked DD as a younger teen. I think if was because even though they had hair and makeup and pop hooks, they were still a BAND, with all of the required instrumentation and the guitarist wrote a big chunk of almost everything. That at least made my appreciation of them more defend-able to my rocker friends.

"The Power Station"

Still one of my favorite albums.
