Purple siding and scrap glass for mulch. And a big ass United States of America flag on the roof.

A few days ago those same fifty whackjobs were camped out at Mesa's new Krispy Kreme trying to get free donuts for a year.

And newsflash: there ain't no mesa, in Mesa, Arizona. And I wish I wasn't there either.

I still can't believe people want to live here. And in northeast Mesa, at that. Ugh.

That's what I'm saying. It's not like there isn't a place other than North Snottsdale that isn't a crappy commute to North Scottsdale where all the tech jobs worth having are, but I'd rather work an off-hour shift to address the commute than live in North Mesa.

Buy the multi-pack (Half-Life 1, plus expanasions) for the PC or download it via Steam. The game is a must if you enjoyed the sequel.

Actually I'm in North Phoenix and my wife commutes to North Scottsdale everyday. It's not that bad up here and you can find some decent houses near the 51 for about 300k.

True. The commute aside, though, you're still living in a state with a major immigration problem, an absurd education system, and a megalomaniacal, insane sheriff ... not to mention you're living in a city that is bested only by Middle Eastern Cities such as Baghdad as far as extreme climates go.

No matter how stupid you think the human race has become, it will always surprise you by devolving even further.

FTA: He has been using his Web site to whip up excitement in the project. But even Blandford said he has been floored by the buzz, coming in a tough housing market. "We've been talking about the community on the Internet since then, but what we've seen happen this week, I have to say, it surprised us," he said.

I would weep for humanity, but I have no more tears. They have dried in the desert heat.

austerity101: there's a reason those houses seem so reasonable

I tell that to people all of the time. Why are homes in San Francisco four times the cost of a house in Phoenix? Because "the market" has decided that living in Phoenix is shiat. And the market is right.

Jason McFarkster 2008-05-18 03:33:34 AM
I'm getting out of this shiathole. Have fun with the heat and the crime and the "inexpensive housing" (Hah!) and the forclosures and the douchey snowbirds.

All you plebes saying you are getting out of here: Get! Go! Shoo!

And don't come back!

I am a transplant myself, from California, and I am glad I got the hell out of there. The state and the people are OK - but the government is shiiiattt! At least here in Phoenix I can open-carry with no license.

I personally love the climate - there is nothing like our summer monsoons bringing cool, moist air in while the thunder and lightning rolls overhead. Winters are easy and nice - shorts on Christmas! We have tons of sun, and if you know how to harness it and build your house to work with the climate, and not against it, your heating and cooling costs can be extremely low (sadly, our home developers suck, and continue with their inefficient stick-frame houses that you can knock a golf-ball through).

While I am a transplant, I feel like Arizona is the place I belong in. People have described it as a "brown" state, a dirty place to be. I just know they don't see the beauty of the Sonoran desert, and all it offers.

So go! Go NOW! And don't let the sahuaro and joshua trees spank you on the way out!

Reasonable my A$$. In Dallas, for 350K, you can have a mansion, and the pay is more there. I am renting in Mesa, (A nice quiet little neighborhood), and I am paying 1K a month. If I bought a house on the same street, I would have to pay 1.7K a month. There is a reason people are losing their houses and waking away even if they can pay. I think the people that say houses are reasonable are from CA or in real estate.

The problem is $300K is about $100K more than they're really worth. Sometime shortly before I moved out here, some assholes were convinced AZ=CA and prices adjusted accordingly.

You know what would do "alot" more "good things about the immigration problem."?

Tell your crazy sheriff to stop f*cking with the people who come over the border and start jailing the morons that hire them. Once the potential workforce realizes there are no jobs to be had for them on this side of the border, they will not even bother to cross, since that is what they come here for. Attack the problem, not the symptoms.

But I guess rounding up scruffy, dirty, illiterate brown folks looks so much better to white voters than showing white former business owners living in tents, eating gray bologna and wearing pink underwear...

This a thousand times.

The fools that keep reelecting him just care about illegals. I want them out also, but this sherrif has cost us 43 Million in lawsuites. He really needs to go. He treats prisoners worse than dogs and people never thing about how they are going to be when they get out. They don't realize that in about 1 year, these are the people they are going to share streets and stores with.

Chinese_Torture_Socks 2008-05-18 04:26:26 AM

He also has a million dollars on a sherrifs 80K pay. He is the ultimate Attention Ho. We also have 75K outstanding felony warrents that he ignores.

That's why they're doing both... Employer Sanctions Law that went into effect on the first of the year?

You have to attack both the supply and the demand to get rid of the problem. And yes, I'm sure he will get elected again this next time around. He definitely has my vote.

The man's a corrupt jackass who costs our county millions of dollars in lawsuits and is nothing but an attention whore who doesn't give a shiat about the actual crime rate. He's an authoritarian bastard.

I spoke with a retired police chief, and nothing good came out of his mouth about Joe Arpaio. Completely unwilling to work with anyone and doesn't care about anything that won't further his image.

Piece of shiat. But go ahead and vote for him, he makes headlines. That's what's important.

jmomo 2008-05-18 04:47:33 AM
The Phoenix metro area is an anomaly. And, even within the area, there is a lot of housing that will/has lost significant value that it never should have had. The people of the area have not had their jobs taken away, yet. When they do, they won't be shopping for houses any longer. Until something threatens job creation in the area, there will continue to be home buyers.

If you don't like Phoenix...well, LEAVE. It's really quite simple, just pack your shiat, get in your car and GO! Try Florida, if you think Phx sux, you ain't seen nuthin yet. News flash...the housing crisis is not just in the valley, it's everywhere. Stupid people buying houses they can't afford and now expecting the government to bail them out, bunch of babies-you made your bed, sleep in it. As far as Sherrif Joe goes, if you don't like the ways laws are enforced here don't break them...it's really quite simple.

Headcrabs are mildly tolerable. It's those headcrab zombies that can really surprise a new owner. Just look out for flying headcrabiness after you blow away the rest of the body.

Especially you ASU students (ASU grad myself) - I never understood the "back east" kids who came to ASU and biatched for 4 years about how it sucked out here (no culture, no green, no seasons, wah). Then why the fark did you enroll at ASU? Farthest school from mom and dad that would accept you? Don't get it.

Scorched Colon 2008-05-18 11:21:14 AM
Its deed also gives Blandford first right of refusal to buy back homes within the first 12 months for the same price they sold.

WTF?

Who would buy a house with a deed that contains that clause? So in 11 months when the developer thinks they can get more for your house they give you your money back, take back the house, kick you out, and then sell it at a higher price?
