Sacrilicious.

Nabb1 [TotalFark] 2008-05-17 03:43:37 PM
I've had everything on that list except fugu and the maggot cheese, and I have to say when it comes to raw milk cheese, if the FDA would lighten up, Wisconsin would kick the ever living crap out of France. Raw milk brie is delicious.

Foie Gras and lobsters are on this list?

I was expecting edgier fare.

I could see Fugu Roulette.

Whale, Horse, Monkey, balut (or whatever they are called), fried insects, and raw chicken sashimi are just a few off the top of my head. All of those are by far more extreme than frigging lobster.

JerseyTim [TotalFark] 2008-05-17 06:37:09 PM
There was something very Wikipedia about that article.

Philbb 2008-05-17 06:47:35 PM
No mention of ortolan(p)?

BKITU [TotalFark] 2008-05-17 07:16:45 PM
Zalan: I was expecting edgier fare.

Maggot-cheese isn't edgy enough for you? You're the hardest core ever.

But they SCREAM when you boil them!!!1!

I made a couple of lobsters last week. First time I actually cooked one in a while. The gf was curious as to how to dispatch them and she actually wanted to drop them in the water, the psychopath.

/opted not to bisect the ol brain, but I did stick 'em in the freezer for a spell to calm 'em down.

They don't scream anymore than your teakettle.

netweavr: They don't scream anymore than your teakettle.

And for the same reason. Superheated air.

Last I checked, a lobster's brain wasn't complex enough to feel pain from heat.

I still hate the sight of the buggers.

This is a bit behind the times. Foie gras is legal in Chicago again and you can get Absinthe in the US.

I almost had Fugu, but it was the first date with my SO and she didn't want me to tempt fate.

So what's the most daring food farkers out there have tried?

Gyrfalcon [TotalFark] 2008-05-17 09:49:29 PM
or even the risk of larvae jumping into your eye.

I dunno about the rest of the crap on that list--I could care less about boiling lobsters or how they make pate except that the thought of mashed liver makes me sick--but who would eat anything where MAGGOTS COULD JUMP INTO YOUR EYES?????????

And if anyone would, please tell me why?

Haggis? Ye canna ban ma haggis! You'll have ta tear it from ma cold, dead hands. Haggis is part of the Sacred Ritual of Robbie Burns Day. And at Hogmanay.

Everyone - pour a Scotch and sing together. It's nearly 10 PM on a Saturday night. Surely you're partly drunk now...

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne ?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And surely ye'll be your pint-stoup !
And surely I'll be mine !
And we'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We twa hae run about the braes,
and pou'd the gowans fine ;
But we've wander'd mony a weary fit,
sin' auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We twa hae paidl'd in the burn,
frae morning sun till dine ;
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
sin' auld lang syne.

CHORUS

And there's a hand, my trusty fiere !
And gives a hand o' thine !
And we'll tak a right guid-willie-waught,
for auld lang syne.

No, you cannot get absinthe in the US. You can get some crap called absinthe that tastes sort of like absinthe. You cannot get a thujone laden drink here, though. You're better off pounding Jager shots than drinking that swill 'cool' people are passing off as absinthe.

FWIW I'm pretty sure they die close to instantly when they hit the boiling water. The same with crabs and anything else like that.

If you want to hear them scream then steam them. Blue crabs are so good this way. They tell me it has something to do with them living for a while as they cook. They make a lot of racket while they cook which is kinda brutal. Dropping them in boiling water is instant death though.

The old difference is slightly lower ppm of wormwood poison. I haven't tried it, but what I"ve heard from critics is that it's the same, though hallucinogenic tough guys like to complain it's not "real" absinthe.

Boiling water on crabs? Man, you are hard core. I had to get the doctor to prescribe a cream for my crabs.

Oh, you mean those kind.

Absinthe isn't the super-hallucinogenic everyone seems to think it is (or was). Jeez, people - just get drunk & eat some shrooms.
