The toothpastey texture of the creme must be what's baffling them.

GrooveMonkeyZero 2008-05-17 10:32:57 AM
I can't think of another country on earth that would freak out as much as this about a new imported cookie.

It's really rather charming.

British people are always baffled by food that tastes pleasant.

I can't think of any other nation on Earth where this would be news.

Hmm.. 4 pages?! In an article about a new product launch. Shouldn't Nabisco have to pay to get that kind of advertising?

There is something amusing about Americans lecturing anyone about food.

Touché. I agree, though, it is rather baffling as to why there's an article devoted entirely to a popular product launching in another country.

I prefer a Mediterranean diet and I am not a fan of British food at all, however, to me anyway, American food is horrific.

What qualifies to you as American food? I'm not trying to snark, I'm genuinely curious.

It's an interesting question really, since you guys generally repackage foreign food, which is kind of the point. In my experience mostly poor imitation food.

Of course, there is so much I haven't tried, but what I have has been dire, like British food.

doublesecretprobation [TotalFark] 2008-05-17 11:26:32 AM
"american food" is way too broad a brush stroke. there are too many food traditions here. i assume you just think of things like burgers, fries and various other deep fried things. if you ever come to the states try to find yourself a GOOD bbq joint. bbq is one of the few truly american foods.

It's true... in my opinion, most any eatery or processed food company which is beholden to stockholders tends to be of poor quality. But there's a whole lot of food here which is amazing, you've just got to find the right places.

don't say that about the land of main lobster, southern BBQ, and maryland crab. our true food is not mcdonalds

And I didn't say or imply McDonalds.

I doubt any country has food better than America. Simply the selection alone is vastly superior to most places.

And Publix rocks.

you live on an island and that's a huge part of your country's food heritage. how'd that happen? get a bad eel pie as a young-en?

Oh get real. Take a trip to Europe.

Jenthelibrarian [TotalFark] 2008-05-17 11:37:08 AM
WTF? They've been selling Oreo cookies in Tesco for yonks.

And you can get the little packs of just 4 in various coffee shops, and tubs of miniature ones, too.

Not as good as Bourbon biccies.

Ha, what am I missing? What can you get that I can't get? Give me a break. America has pretty much any food you can desire. If you can't eat well in the US, it's because you aren't trying.

Predictable.

It matters to me which is the point.

But how much of it is indigenous? Italian served in America is not American food.

So what IS American food? People have asked you before, and I don't get it.

I can go to the grocery store and cook up an Italian meal. If I want fresh pasta, I can go to the pasta place and pick up a batch. Why does it have to be in Italy to be properly Italian?

Silly. And BBQ rules.

tex-mex (is not mexican)
soul food

Just tell me what you consider "American food."

The city of New Orleans alone has contributed more to world cuisine than all of the U.K.

I am not trying to start a fight here, and I conceded my lack of knowledge, however there us a prevailing opinion present here that any food served in America is American.

British food is the worst though - tasteless pesh.

British people DIP THEIR FRENCH FRIES IN MAYONNAISE.

This alone makes their entire opinion on cuisine null and void.

but you have to remember: America consists of people who were kicked out of everywhere, stolen from someplace else, or who fled countries that sucked. so all of our food, short of what the american indians eat, essentially has roots elsewhere
