Back in 7th Grade Health class, we had a poll like that .. one question was "who's prettiest"

My teacher made me give my vote card to arguably the ugliest troll in school, to make her feel all wanted & uplifted.

I'm still pissed. My choice was stifled & the cute girl I wanted to give it never got it & never knew how I felt.

Biatch

Jesus Christ, WND is one of the worst places for reporting. The entire story is just the father's outrage. Doesn't even say if they attempted to talk to the teacher.

There will be a counter suit when the daddy is a grandfather in 2 years.

One of my middle school teachers was fired for sleeping with a student, but sex was never something teachers talked about.

(Maybe read "junior high" for "middle". It served grades 1-9 and I was in sixth or seventh grade when it happened.)

Hey kids! Today's lesson is on BULLYING. We're going to choose somebody from the class and tell her she's going to be a screwup in the future. This will be FUN. Let's take a vote.

What a frothing coont.

AWESOME!

I think they should do more of these in school.
If I were in her shoes, I would to a lot to change that perception of myself by others.

I'm just sayin, you don't get voted "most likely to _______" unless you're putting that image out there...

Fat and Nasty 86: Holy farking crap this teacher is retarded.

Yeah, one of the first things that this teacher should have learned is that you don't give the class tasks to personalize negative things like this, as they'll use it to berate, bully, or harass each other, or if you do collect this information from the kids you don't return it to them.

Expecting the teacher to be fired is probably unrealistic though too, but it could happen. Principal/Superintendency/School Board/District Lawyers will have to evaluate the ramifications (how hard is it to get teachers in this area? Is this teacher otherwise a good one? Will the parent sue for money, and if so, will he win?) to decide if they terminate the position or not.

The problem here is the use of kids opinions.

I think there's space for empirical study to discover what personality or socio-economic traits really do lead to higher teen pregnancy rates.

Seriously, most of the stereotypes about teen pregnancy aren't well documented. Interview large numbers of girls around the 6th grade and see what traits lead where. It does no good to only interview the ones who come up pregnant, that gives certain traits a confirmation bias.

No, these shiathole schools bask in their zero tolerance policies. Let them also die by those same policies. Teacher has a serious lapse of judgment like this, send her/him packing. School administrator screws up the budget or somthing equally dumb, there's the door.

Why in hell would a parent who loved their children even send them to a public school? With the choices out there (private, magnet, charter, parochial, Christian, home schooling, all of which the teachers' unions and liberals would love to squash), there is no reason to subject children to public schools and the crap they teach, much of which has nothing to do with education.

No shiat . . . WND is what the AFA uses as it's main "legitimate" source of news quotes.
In fact I wouldn't be surprised if everything WND does is entirely supported financially by the AFA.
I think the entire staff of WND are just a bunch of fundies who seek out xtian "outrage", so they can have something for the AFA to quote.
What a stinking obvious piece of yellow journalism this article is. How do we know the daughter didn't just make all this up? You can't form any kind of opinion about what happened here, because it's all reported from one (possibly unreliable) side.

I highly doubt it, especially in the sixth grade. I'm inclined to err on the side of her being a reasonably normal sixth grade girl, shy because of the onset of puberty, and if she's smart then she's probably also teased a lot because others who aren't as successful find it easier to attack the one who is than to compete on a level playing field.

While I doubt that the teacher will be canned over this, of all three ganged up over this then it might happen more easily.

They're sixth graders. I highly doubt any (or at least very many) are sexually active or engaging in activities where they'll contract AIDS or kill themselves. They were being asked to imagine these things about other people in their class. They're not old enough to know what about their classmates would indicate this as a likely possibility, they're just all going to vote for the girl that gets the attention from the cutest guy in class.

And for what purpose? This would effectively derail any actual lesson about teen pregnancy, AIDS, or reckless behavior by shifting the students' focus on judging one another. At the very least the teacher needs to be reprimanded and told that this is absolutely unacceptable.

I don't know much about WND's reputation, but I'm as knee-jerk liberal as they come and I didn't find a single Christian or Republican sentence in that article to take offense to.

Nice troll, you ignorant, uneducated, fundamentalist piece of garbage. For every incident of poor public school judgement (like the one in this teacher's case), I can cite 10 instances of horrific, abusive, systemic atrocities visited upon the helpless brainwashed kids of insane "home-school" jackwads like yourself.

Appears you're mixing the shiat with the ice cream. The shiat: "No, these...those same policies". This is shiat because schools do not want these policies. In fact it appears you may have it exactly backwards. These policies were likely created because of lawsuits from parents who used them to make money off the districts, not because districts are out to get parents. The districts had little choice but to go to zero-tolerance to protect their miniscule budgets from emotional damages lawsuits when someone's little snowflake was exposed to a squirt gun. Also, it appears zero-tolerance is beneficial for some activities. For example "zero-tolerance of bullies" might have prevented Columbine and/or some subsequent Columbine-type things.

The ice cream: "Teacher has a...there's the door". True dat. But it should be noted that citizens are mostly dispensing the medicine via who they elect, re-elect to their school boards. It's hardly school administrators screwing up budgets with no accountability. And, although the teacher here was a bit kooky, I the "my little snowflake" vibe off the father smells like more of a problem than the teacher's. Him saying his daughter is an honor student shows where his head is at with respect to her worth. I wouldn't doubt if he'll sue for emotional damages (see above) between arguments with the umpire and fans at his local little-league baseball game. "Poor me, and my poor picked-upon family."

bbickel: I wonder what disciplinary measures would be taken against students who organized an in-school survey of which teacher was most likely to come out of the closet, which teacher was most likely to get caught sleeping with a student, and which two teachers are most likely to be having sex with one another.

It would depend, in large part, on the disciplinary history of the student that did it, and how well known they are to school administration. I didn't personalize the stuff that I did in high school, but I was known in a bad way to some school district officials because I tended to play with equipment that was supposed to be off limits, and I made it clear to these personnel that if they didn't do their jobs I'd continue to mess with the equipment. School administration liked me well enough because I didn't vandalize things though, so they typically took my side when the district people complained that I was in to things that I shouldn't have been.

Back to your point, we had a strong suspicion about one of the male teachers for coming out of the closet (though found out later he was married with a newborn, so we were wrong), we had dreams of which female teacher we'd like to have seen having sex with students, and as far as two teachers having sex with one another, probably two of them in the math department, who were married...

In some areas of the country you don't have all of those options. Sometimes both parents need to work also. Another thing maybe the father needs to have a discussion with his daughter, the students might know stuff that she hasn't told him. Schools are so worried about parents mad about their snowflakes feelings getting hurt kids anymore don't learn how to grow a thick skin. I'm only 24 but dang. I was made fun of, bullied, and hey its part of life. Not everything is nice kids need to learn this when they're young to actually function in life.
