Not forgotten...

I seriously looked up the Wiki to see if this was a joke, the singing in the beginning was so horrible. Then it got better.

/not a Van Halen fan
//this was pretty OK though
///except for the deep talk-singing

Yeah, the song starts out kind of weird, and the vocals are shakey in spots. It does get better. It was nice to hear after so many years of Van Hagar, at the very least, and nice to hear it again.

kick-ass

That word, does not fit here, the song sucked when I first heard it and it still sucks years later.

Please tell me you're joking.

"Suck"-I don't think that word means what you think it means.

The 2 DLR add-ons to that VHGH in '96 were so good, it made me weep for what could have been post-Sammy. 'Can't' and 'Me' belong amongst the best of the DLR-era catalogue, no question.

Don't like 'em? You probably weren't a serious VH fan in the first place.

Can you honestly tell me that you think that song was even decent?

Those songs would have been throw aways on any of their other albums, it farking sucks there is a reason why it was never played very much and it doesnt matter if dave was nuts they would have played it if they could have made money.

Van Halen is the most overrated rock band ever. With the exception of hot for teacher every drum beat is exactly the same. Yeah so the guitarist can shred but so can dozens of other lead guitarists from 80s hair bands. I don't see the attraction

Im not going that far, at the time the guitar was unique and not in a viable rock band this paved the way for quite a few bands/guitarists.

I like VH its just the new songs on that album sucked

I'm a huge DLR era VH fan and I hate this song.

Okay song, but Jesus Christ was that long. That must be their "Supper's Ready".

Except that they laid the groundwork for "eighties metal". Starting in 1978 - smack in the middle of disco. By 1980, they had their 3rd album out. When you are the standard, by default you are not and cannot be overrated!

The more you know...

What the fark does that even mean? Me Wise Magic? Makes no farking sense.

Love the song, wished they would've played it during their current tour. Would love to see if Ed could pull off that ending riff live in concert.

/die hard =VH= fan
//still would prefer Sammy though

I really likes this song when it hit.

Yeah it makes no sense, but it's impressive in the sense that the song manages to capture the essence of classic VH without being a super-lame imitation of it. Such is not so the case with other bands that get back together years after they were fresh, then crank out 2 or 3 albums of middle-of-the-road SUCK.

Thanks for the memory, subby. Now I'm off to iTunes to piss off some haters ...

So long as you'll agree that the same thing goes for Rush, I'll respect your opinion.

/huge VH fan
//if I hear Neil Peart drill the bell of a ride cymbal like that ever again, I'll drive to his house and feed it to him.

I remember riding in the backseat of my parent's van listening to this on headphones and thinking "van halen is back, RULE!" and then they broke up the band...again.

/killer track

moparedtn 2008-05-18 07:05:04 AM
I remember when it came out and thinking the same thing, Scarbepi.
Classic Eddie riffs, Dave doing that Dave thing and Mike Anthony hitting backing notes a grown man shouldn't be able to.
Had already had enough of the Sammy thing by then and was actually excited at the thought of a new REAL VH album, but nooooo....
booze and egos ruined it, as usual.

I'm still pissed off at how Mike was treated with this current iteration of the band. Shameful, just plain evil.
Won't pay a dime for anything with VH on it because of that.

/bought the 8-track of the first VH when it came out
//was a huge fan then
///Sammy is great when doing Sammy stuff, not so much with VH

They invented the 80s arena/hair metal sound, very unique for the time.

Jedekai 2008-05-19 12:36:15 AM
I thought the title of the song was "Me Wise Magi" as in "I am a wise man" when translated into standard English.

/Sad: TECHNICALLY... This is Middle English. Making the statement a real sentence... be it in 1340 or 2008.

JohnnyDanger 2008-05-21 12:58:05 PM
That was a kickass tune...as was Ed's playing on it. Why they chose to behave like smacktards toward each other was stupid and awful
