OBL is dead. OBL has been dead for a long time.

The dude was an attention whore. If he were alive you'd be seeing videos of him like you did all the time pre-9/11. Now it's dubious audio recordings of him.

He's just a prop now in the 'war on terra'.

Yeah, both of those attacks were inspired by al-Qaeda. Which isn't the same thing as planned and executed.

Ghastly [TotalFark] 2008-05-16 12:04:57 PM
Yeah, you can put me in the OBL = Dead category. Probably buried under a mountain of rubble since the pasting o Tora Bora. Al Queda is either using voice impersonation or editing old clips to make audio tapes (and the rare video tape). Gives them a nice superhuman commander to rally the troops behind.

OBL is too big an attention whore to not be releasing video and lots of it.

Tora Bora was a farking disaster for the allied forces. We could have ended this whole clusterfark before it started if we had captured or had proof-of-death of OBL and his entourage. Instead we let him escape the one time we knew where he was.

Think Bush could have drummed up Iraq the way he did if OBL was rotting in The Hague?

He might very well be dead, but since we can't prove it, it doesn't matter. The belief that he isn't is enough to incite others to carry on his message.

I actually think that Osama is a much bigger asset for Al Qaeda if he were martyred, which is why I think his death will be announced to the world when it occurs.

I think he's more valuable as an untouchable superman defiantly taunting the USA juggernaut than as yet another Al Quida martyr. Let the endless stream of "al Quida's number 2" take on that roll. Bin Laden works better as a tool to demonstrate the US's impotence. Some guy in a cave in the middle of goat country pulling all the strings and the US still can't get him. A martyred Bin Laden will have an effect, but it will be a short lived one as he will eventually become just another martyr in a cause that has an endless supply of martyrs. Bin Laden as a living force and constant thorn in the side of the US shows Al Quida recruits that they actually can achieve a victory over the US.

or they just froze the body and will wait until they have somethign big planned. then he will be "martyred" (body placed in target and intelligence fed to US that will lead them to bomb it, NOT raid it. That is, they won't imply he's there, just that it needs to be taken out immediately). Followed by an "i'm in charge" announcement by the REAL #2 guy- okay the real #1 guy i guess- AND the planned attack to show the new guy gets shiat done.

/at least that's how I'd do it. And I do think OBL is dead or invalid a this point.

My name is Osama bin laden and I bring you a message of great importance. If the deviant, despicable and immoral nation of the United States elects a democrat president, then Allah will visit great destruction upon this country.

Only a Republican President can prevent....(aw geez) look George, I can't keep doing this schtick. I mean we had fun. My family made money. Your family made money. Come up with a new angle and call my people. Until then, I'll be on the golf course.

Oh the flip side is that WE have his body and Georgey will have it placed in a target and "Taken out" around October (or earlier if McCains numbers are slipping.

But he's still a corpse, just a question of who's got him (and towards which pole the polarity of my tinfoil hat is adjusted that day)
