This isnt the BBC, its a reader comment.

elchip: Well, they're not, they're basically Jordanians.

This statement is weird as you have this pile of people around the failing/failed ottoman empire, moving to concepts of nationstate.

Nation building, of course, was a concomitant European idea which was birthed out of (often) multi-ethnic empires in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The move for Syria, Jordan, Iraq, etc. fit under this.

Calling them "Jordanians" is weird as it divorces their post WWI pre-state national aspirations and places it on a country that wasn't developed.

This thread is going to have the usual twists in it.
• Its empty (But, somehow, those non-existent arabs were a threat)
• Immigrants (Jewish and Arab) without discussing the whole corpus of work on this subject. What were the mandate people struggling with on illegal immigration?
• Map of TransJordan, but dont cover the how (and when) the british split the mandate.

I'm going to leave, as this has all been discussed ad nauseum before

another.
Why did Palestinian Nationalism decline after first Arab-Israeli War in 1948, and why did it re-emerge after the 1967 War?
Early Arab-Jewish conflicts
Actually, that pro-con site is really brief, but helpful. While its really brief, I bet it covers most of this.

Hey, there's a mistake in the headline for this thread. It should say,

Because I just said it the comments, so that's what this thread is about.

The Palestinians have a homeland. It's called Jordan. Granted, it is not the entirety of the British Colonial Territory of Palestine, but it is not nothing either. Problems with this should be taken up with King Abdullah, not Israel. I think payment for the land area of Israel has been made many times over in Blood and Treasure, so Palestinians wishing recompense for land they lost in '48 should seek remuneration from the neighboring governments responsible for the various unsuccessful wars to drive the Jews back into the sea.

Zionists make racist, anti-nationalist claims to justify their crimes.
Sane people point out the situation is a construct of their own actions.
Zionists make religious claims to justify their crimes.
Sane people can refute religious claims by simply denying acknowledgment of their god.
Endless...

More like the myth of the United States.

You can't have some of the world's best tech, nukes, and a rabid alliance with the biggest military spender on Earth and claim to be the victim. Especially when your genotype doesn't match everyone else who's been living there for a couple of thousand years...

So if Palestine doesn't exist, does this mean that creating a Palestinian state is "appeasement?"

George Bush and John McCain support the creation of a Palestinian state. Are they "appeasers?"

themindiswatching 2008-05-16 12:00:08 PM
The conflict really goes back longer than 1948, but you'll hardly see much talk about that.

/I'm not sure a Palestinian state (1967 borders) would be big enough to be viable

Jews deserve Israel because of Hitler. End of story.

It makes no sense spend 150,000 American lives to keep Hitler from killing all the Jews if later we were just gonna sit around and watch the Arabs do it.

From a practical standpoint it's better for the US to have an Israeli state in the Middle East because option 2 is to have it here. No thanks.

If you think we entered WWII to save the Jews you probably think the Civil War was fought to end slavery.

Another fine product of our useless "educational" system.
