Metallica's James Hetfield says the new album is based on Master of Puppets.

Translation: They discovered some songs Cliff wrote before he died that were hidden away and are planning to desecrate his name by using them.

Count me in. EIP

As I said in a previous thread concerning Metallica's new album:
These guys have promised a return to the "hardcore" Metallica sound for the last few albums. I've taken the bait and have been SEVERELY let down; I'm not holding out hope for this album to be anything other than utter crap! I would be very happy to come into a thread and eat crow if I am mistaken.

ManRay [TotalFark] 2008-05-16 09:14:35 AM
Maybe stealing their music is what keeps them putting out crappy albums.

labman [TotalFark] 2008-05-16 09:17:45 AM
I really do hope this is true.

zorgon 2008-05-16 09:28:05 AM
Metallica? OK. They were just getting nationally popular when I was in college. My kid, who wasn't going to be born yet for another five-ten years? Is going to college in the fall.

Two things:
1) Can we, you know, move on now?
2) All you guys who want them to sound like they did in 1985 again, can you please <shatner>get. a. life!</shatner>

Dear Metallica,

Hey, it's Dave! Remember me? Yeah, I'm the guy that's been listening to your band faithfully since 1983. I bought your first album 'Kill 'Em All' from a mailorder catalogue called Under The Rainbow, I think. Actually I can't remember. It was 1983 for Christsakes! But that album changed my life and I've been listening to your albums ever since (even 'St Anger'!).

I can't wait to hear the new sh*t, and no matter what you guys do I'll always be first one at the shop waiting to hear it. I'm sure you'll come out and blow everybody's f**kin' minds, because you're f**kin' METALLICA!

Good luck. And don't release it until it's kick-ass.

Yours, Dave Grohl.

P.S. Are you finished recording the drums yet?

kungfu jesus with a side of lime 2008-05-16 10:49:07 AM
I want it to be good, but it wont. I will dl it off of torrents fark them.

Crude 2008-05-16 10:58:42 AM
Fool me once, shame on you...

I would say that there is no chance that the new cd will be even as "good" as Load. How good can it be when they are touring during the time that they are supposed to be recording?

Rule #1. Have the songs written and arranged before you enter the studio.

Or have you learned nothing from St. Anger?

carmody 2008-05-16 11:04:28 AM
Personally, I thought this band was overrated even when I was in high school in the '80s. I always gave them a trifling of respect for at least having a more or less unique sound, but IMHO, that sound was (and remains) painful to endure.

Most of their songs sound like a two-stroke dirtbike engine on the verge of throwing a timing chain being ridden head-on into a flaming runaway freight train with a sexually-frustrated, coked-up baboon at the controls. And I don't mean that in a good way.

Derwood 2008-05-16 11:07:47 AM
my overly positive view on St. Anger was that they just needed to get every last ounce of suck out of their systems before dumping Bob Rock, hooking up with Rick Rubin, and making a glorious return to epic win.

right?

anyone?

WaltzingMathilda [TotalFark] 2008-05-16 11:07:49 AM
Why don't they sound exactly like they did 23 years ago? Why won't they get on Fark.com and realize they suck? Why am I SO ANGRY that some people still think they're awesome!!??

amindtat 2008-05-16 11:21:55 AM
So they are going back to the studio in Denmark and it's going to sound like the album was recorded in a garage? Blame Bob Rock all you want for their last decade and a half of suck, but at least it sounded like professionally produced suck (except for Lars' drums on St. Anger).

rocinante721 2008-05-16 11:23:00 AM
I'm probably the only one who REALLY likes the JUSTICE album, but it needs to be remixed. Horrible high-clicking drums & non-existent bass.

.. also liked the 2 LOADs, which they coulda trimmed to make one good album (ditto for G'n'R ILLUSIONS 1 & 2)

Stupid Floppy Clownshoes 2008-05-16 11:23:09 AM

Derwood: and making a glorious return to epic win

They're going to sit Dave Mustaine in a room with a Ouija board and not let him out until he and the ghost of Cliff Burton write them some decent songs?

Megadeth
Exodus
Death Angel

All released records this year that will blow anything Selloutica can muster up...even with Rubin at the board.

fark these losers, there's still true thrash being produced. Who needs 'em?

I absolutely love Justice. Each song is so awesome and epic. It's the perfection of metal. Justice and Load are my favorite albums.

You are not alone. It would be good if there was the DCC 24K remaster like there was for RTL and MOP. That would make it awesomer.

I saw Death Angel in 1990 in Boise, and while the singer took a break the rest of the band played an acoustic set that ranks among the top three things I've seen a band do. It was truly amazing.

They're also digging up a few that were written by Mustaine, too.

No, I really, really like it, too. But, yes, it's in DIRE need of a remix. "Shortest Straw", "Blackened", "Dyer's Eve", are my faves.

If I remember rightly, the only place you can really hear the bass 'up front'(unless you're really good at picking apart a mix and listening for the various parts) is *I THINK* towards the beginning of "Frayed Ends of Sanity"

But, it's good --- for a while that midrangy no-bass sound was kind of 'in' -- a few bands around that time (or tapes anyway) woudln't even have bass .. just a drum and the guitar tone of this album with a bit more bass. it worked. it's ok.

The only problem with that is the simple fact of Megadeth sucking much more than Metallica could even dream of.

If you want to compare say "Count Down to Extinction" (megadeth) vs say the "Black Album" (metallica) I'm gonna have to disagree. But I'll be the first to admit the last Megadeth and Metallica albums were both horrificly bad. So bad I think they gave me cancer. Both bands need to hit the sauce again before they keep writing music.
