That cooky McCain and his truthiness.

Hmm, politicians lie and change their policies from year to year in order to get elected. Who knew.

moops 2008-05-16 10:28:30 AM
It's not lying when he can't remember what he said.

At this rate, if McCain were president, within two years he wouldn't be able to find his adult diapers.

tiiger 2008-05-16 10:29:15 AM
It seems that this election is full of politicians not understanding the implications of the information age, namely that fact-checking and back-checking statements is easy, quick, and can torpedo your credibility.

"Diplopeasement?"

Does that have anything to do with those kick-ass blocks I used to play with when I was little, they were like giant legos?

Because if not, I have no interest in this topic.

OneBrightMonkey 2008-05-16 10:29:20 AM
What's the running total now for how many stances and beliefs McCain has totally inverted his soul on?

Torture?

Bush Tax Cuts?

Agents of intolerance?

Infiltration of Lobbyists in his campaign?

Time tables on Iraq?

Now actual diplomacy is out the window in favor of Bush style knuckle dragging foreign policy?

And some wonder why people call him McSame and McBush?

Meh.

The straight talk express is off the rails. It turns out the only thing John McCain is a "maverick" on is running from the truth.

his wife has to give back a couple million from the Sudan the other day too but yet we don't need to see her tax records or his medical records obviously. so much for transparency. and for ethics how about his creative campaign financing? have Bush get rid of people in the FEC who will hold the GOP to the rules and then nominate unworthy partisans for the FEC knowing the Dems won't approve them. then when the case gets in the court have a Bush judge dismiss it and say they FEC needs to handle it. well duh but there is no FEC right now and won't be because the GOP is going to play down and dirty this time and don't want any stinking referees

Wow, McCain really gets it in that video. "People want security and a decent life and a decent future before they want democracy." Nailed it right there.

Too bad that's not the guy who's running for president.

I get this image in my head of an hour long special where all Obama has to say is: "Senator McCain now says [this] about [that]. But let's see what he said two years ago. Roll film."

2004 was only four years ago. People can remember Republicans denouncing any shift in policy as flip-flopping. Sorry GOP - you forfeited the right to benefit of the doubt when your candidate changes his position on an issue, even if it was a well-considered change for the better. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

McCain just needs to hush up. Obama's worst enemy is the black community. Just sit back and let them implode and scare whitie into voting GOP.

Followed by two hours of "I don't remember saying that" and "mommy they are picking on me"

The best part about this type of ad is that there really isn't a good response to it. McCain can't fall back on 9/11. He can't really argue that things changed. All he can do is attack Obama in response.

Obama's response is pretty tight on this - defend his policy, attack McCain for being the one who wanted to appease terrorists. McCain and the GOP think that the best strategy is all offense but no defense - don't talk about or even try to defend McCain, but simply try to tarnish Obama. Unfortunately, McCain brought this issue into play and I don't think he was expecting to be left holding the bag.

"Senator McCain... Ronald Wilson Reagan was not afraid to go toe to toe with the Soviet empire. Yet, you're afraid of talking to little unpopular weasels like Ahmedinajad?"

You know those videos of people firing high-powered pistols that snap back and clock them in the forehead when they shoot?

The guy holding the gun is McCain, and the pistol is negative campaigning. And Obama is Neo, stopping all the bullets anyway.

That actually is the plan. I expect major race baiting to come full circle in the weeks before November. Look for Republicans to continue to publicly considering slave reparations and pushing affirmative action. If they could just plan another "Rodney King" incident, they would have this thing in the bag. So I'd go ahead and start expecting it. On top of that, they know damn well that "liberals" tend to become irrational in the face of racism. Nothing is going to scare voters to the polls worse than pissed off liberals screaming at the top of their lungs and black people protesting and/or rioting.

Start preparing Obama. You are fighting satan and there is no reason to think that Rove doesn't have a vested interest in securing the (R) candidate so they can pardon him.

/Still think Obama should pick Hillary for VP, for when this race gets down-right dirty. Who is going to beat her in a mudslinging competition?

Two things that I am looking forward to.

1) National Debate where McCain pauses, looks at Obama and says "How?"

2) The video of Obama doing blow back in college that you know the plumbers have.

As long as McCain has to answer the same question, I'm all for it. Specifically, on how we are going to win the war in Iraq. And how we are going to lower taxes and increase spending on the military at the same time.

Hmm, politicians lie and change their policies from year to year in order to get elected. Who knew.

This is the strongest defense McCain has for the next six months. That Obama sucks just as bad as him. Unfortunately, even this shiat isn't believable.

That's his base: the "awww, farkit!" crowd.

d'art 2008-05-16 11:50:00 AM
On the one hand, I respect someone who looks back at his past statements, realizes that he currently disagrees with them, and says so publicly.

On the other, McCain's current stances are idiotic.
