I wouldn't count too much on Hillary winning Oregon. We've got a whole lotta Obama supporters (myself & my son included) here.

These guys going for Obama? I'll believe it when I see it. Portland and Eugene aren't the entire state, often times aren't even half of it.

I could say, but then you'd be callin me a name.

Demographically, southern / eastern oregon, which is to say everything outside of Eugene and Portland, is a lot more like West Virginia than it is Northern California. Of the three West Coast states, our neighbors to the south often have the least blue and the most red. And it would be upon fine men such as these to reverse the trend, given all they know about Obama, from he hates America, to he won't wear a flag pin, to his preacher's crazy.

I'll believe it when I see it.

// Has family in Medford area, has heard them talk recently about politics. Was eye opening.

So, since they're Republicans-- how does it affect the Democratic primary again?

I live in Jacksonville but work in Medford. Southern Oregon is a mixed bag -- fair to say the Medford would shade red, but Ashland is blue, and there is a fair amount of anger throughout the area about the mess in the middle east. If the Democrats run against the war and Republicans run for it, I can see it voting blue this election.

Of course, the best way for a candidate to win would be to cast his opponent as a Californian. :D

The only thing the Hillary people have left: She can get Republicans to vote for her if the Republicans would vote Democratic.

The problem with your assessment is that Obama has taken plenty of predominately white, low-income, uneducated, demographic states. Off the top of my head: Idaho, Utah, Maine, Iowa, etc.

The effect you're citing seems to be more geared towards Appalachia and the "rust belt," and while racism did play a factor in Sen. Clinton's wins there, I'd argue that the biggest factor was name recognition and a populace who wasn't informed nor cared to be.

As pointed out in the comments page for this article, Obama will lose because he actually thinks there are 57 states and he didn't accidentally say a wrong number.

Saying 57 by mistake: Unforgivable error that indicates a terrible choice for the nomination.
Creating a fictional situation involving snipers and running for cover: Just dandy.

I keep repeating this:

Iowa is NOT an uneducated state.

The graduation rate for high school seniors has gradually increased to 90.8% in 2006. The state has the third highest graduation rate in the nation. Iowa continually ranks in the top 3 for ACT and SAT scores.

So would you stop lumping us in with the mouth-breathers already?

"We are going to destroy Obama and all of these POS punks who tried to hijack the party. You know who you are. We Clinton backers hold all the cards now, You know it, and we know it, too. Now is the time to drive these punks into the ground. Period. They wanted to be primary season bullies. Now it's our turn...And after Bambi goes down then it will be time to start electorally sharpshooting the Judases who propped him up both to spite the Clintons and to screw over the majority of their party's registered constituents."

/Emphasis mine.

I'd have to agree, and go a step further by matching Oregon's (^) demographic, population notwithstanding, with Colorado (^)and North Dakota (^), as opposed to West Virginia (^). Education isn't W.V. strong suit. So the assumption that the majority of the population voted for the Hillary brand seems spot on. That, of course, can be an opinion born of ignorance.

Blame Clyburn, Wilder, Oprah(who deserves much of the balme -(a total hypocrite who became a billionaire from woman but goes with her AA buddy and former church member), sadly, John Lewis, Richardson( a fat ass hole who seems kinda stupid), Kemmedy, Pelosi(so jealous of Hillary), Dean, and most of all Obama , a fake vision of hope who is really another Jimmy Carter, maybe even worse if possible.

There you have it folks. She won't win Oregon because of a racist Oprah, a fat, slightly stupid a#$%^ish Richardson, `Kemmedy', Lewis and Pelosi who is oh so jealous of Hillary. They are to `balme'.

Indeed it does. Antipathy towards those who are different is right up there with guns and religion among the things these people might cling to. It says so right here in the Field Guide to Rural Voters.

You just need to get a better disguise.

Try naming yourself Sarah-Jane Lady PinkPantsGirleyGirlVagina, say you are "21 years young" and make a bio mentioning Clinton 17 times followed by either "hero" "goddess" or "best president to-be ever", with at least 4 "men cause all the problems in the world" repetitions. Call Obama a veiled racists nickname without ever mentioning his actual name but painting him as a lying cheating dirty evil rapist murderer man like all the rest.

Sure fire way to be accepted among Clinton crazies.

I'm a transplanted Californian in Oregon and, it's true. ;(

Though to be fair ... I don't know WHY, considering nearly every single person I meet here is from California.

I don't even ask anymore, I just assume.

Either way, Oregon is going to go heavy for Obama which will hopefully cast some doubt on the whole "white folks 'aint votin' for no darkey" theme Clinton has been pushing.

Transplanted Californians don't understand the animosity because they weren't here before all the Californians arrived, dragging their garbage with them. Not like it matters in the long run.

Oregon is in no way comparable to WV. Even what we call rednecks around here usually have at least a minimal amount of education. Many of our farmers and ranchers have Master's degrees, and we know Obama does better with a more educated population. And the old argument about Portland, Salem & Eugene not being the state? Well, that holds true usually.... the valley is (D), the rest of the state tends (R)... except in the case of Obama. Polls from the local Fox affiliate^ show him leading in all categories, including the rural areas. And current Obama V. McCain trending is ~10-12% win for Obama.

Racism against black people is really pretty subdued here. I assume it's because there's not a lot of black people in the state. Now, if Obama were Mexican, yeah, you'd probably have a problem. They're like the new Californians. :)
