I have their very first album on vinyl. I should dig that out...though, I have nothing to play it on.

Okay song, far from their best, but I can't watch at work.

EJ25T 2008-05-15 09:19:05 PM
That's the sad part about the '80s - songs were almost always accompanied by a video as crappy as the music was good. Well, there's that and Manowar. They were always sad.

\m/

/got stuck on VCS "hostile takeover" mission for a couple of days, but didn't mind since "Queen of the Reich" was on V Rock every time I started the mission.

I never get sick of the opening overdubbed rising scream. That song was phenomenal for a first EP. Take Hold Of The Flame is still my all time fave tho. Rage For Order would still be just as amazing if it were released today.

Very good, my brethren.
I came in to take on naysayers, only to see you have things well in hand.

/still remember fondly buying that LP at Korvettes

This article is relevant to my interests.

I'd guess they were well aware of how cheesy the video was and having fun with it. I mean, how can you beat laser boobies?

Not like they were Manowar running around in fur underwear with plastic swords.

/of course, most of their early stuff kicks total ass
//yeah I might be a little biased.

Make it like that famous country singer
Or that guy I saw last night on Jerry Springer
Clean me up but let me keep my edge,
In the day i like to keep it dignified
But at night you know I got another side
And I don't give a damn,
Cause I am what I am
Even if it's really really bad.

I've got an Ape Drape,
Yes I do
They're givin' them to anyone,
And that means you
You can drive to Riverside and get one too
Then you'll have an Ape Drape like I do.

Go ahead and buzz 'round the ears
I've been growing that one braid back there for years
I've had it since the first time I saw Queensryche
The front may conform to society
But the back says I have personality
Even if it's really really,
Even if it's really really bad.

I've got an Ape Drape,
Yes I do
They're givin' them to anyone,
And that means you
You can drive to Riverside and get one too
Then you'll have an Ape Drape like I do.

Make it short in the front and long in the back!
If the top's not short enough that it stands up
I could be thrown out of the Bad Boy Club
But don't you lay a finger on my pony tail
Now fix my kid up so he looks like me,
And then matching crazy pants are all we need
Some may call it child abuse
I just call it bonding with your Dad.

Great band, great video, good times.

I join in with the Queensrÿche gang that will defeat all naysayers.

Whatthefark 2008-05-15 11:35:06 PM

I have this CD in my car stereo right now. Queen of the Ryche starts out by kicking ass for five minutes. By the end of the song, not only has your ass been throughly kicked, but your daughter is now pregnant and your dog was last seen running down the street with his tail between his legs.

That is all.

Well, um...I love the song. Loved the band, until Silent Lucidity. But I have to admit...this video is pretty bad.

I love Queensryche. My very first concert was Kiss/Queensryche, Ft. Wayne, IN. Still have the stub.

Hush, that's a superb song.

I saw that tour. Went through most of the show without DeGarmo... everytime he started to wail, he'd blow a head. I think they went thru 4 before they could keep one alive.

After all that, they still rocked.

If you want true cheese, check out Breakin' the Law by Priest.

Saw Queensryche with Suicidal Tendencies, great show.

Promised Land was the last great album by those guys, I miss having them as a favorite band. Luckily just as QR were declining, Dream Theater were rising, so I still have my pretentious prog-metal fix.

Roto-Rot 2008-05-16 09:03:33 AM
The first big concert I saw was Queensryche opening for Metallic in Toronto in 1989, great show.

A little-known fact: Geoff Tate is featured on the Canadian $1 million dollar bill in honour of that performance.

Seeing them at the Nassau Mausoleum and doing Mindcrime in its' entirety is one of my favorite concerts of all time and when the actress/singer sang during Suite Sister Mary made chills run up and down my spine.

I forgave Queensryche for making this video many years ago. They'll always be one of my all time favorites.

Fark Me with a Chainsaw: Promised Land was the last great album by those guys, I miss having them as a favorite band.

THIS. I did download Operation mindcrime II: Electric Boogaloo to check it out. It's not bad but that they had to make a sequel to their best album ever to get back on the charts indicated the Ryche creative well is running dry. Plus Geoff's voice is shot but he still sounds better than 99% of the singers out there.

And don't they do QOTR as a ballad now? Because there's no way Geoff could hit those notes without his head exploding.

/hilarious video

Yeah, but that's worth what.... let's look at today's echange rate... $1.0004M American?

Wait. That didn't work.

Mo'Phat 2008-05-16 11:50:51 AM
First concert evar was Operation LiveCrime on the Empire tour.

Loved it.

So glad they graduated past the '80's cheesefest. That must have been a hard time to be a fan. Happy I missed it.

Pretty amazing band, actually, from an overall talent standpoint. They all held their own on their respective instruments.

Richard Hertz 2008-05-16 11:53:06 AM
Saw them when they opened for Ratt.

Saw them again when they opened for Def Leopard.

/remember when concert tickets cost $16.50?

Jak Damage 2008-05-16 11:58:13 AM
Also throwing in to beat down anyone who wants to question the awesomeness that was early and mid-Queensryche. Outside of a few good tunes, it certainly went down-hill after DeGarmo left, and that's sad because they were so damn good around Mindcrime and Empire. The shows I saw on the Empire tour, were among the best concerts that I've ever seen. As to the QOTR video, all heavy rock/metal videos in the day were cheesy, someone mentioned Breaking The Law - also check out Dokkens' "Breaking The Chains" or "Balls To The Wall" by Accept. If you're here to bang on this band, there is a whole Walker Brigade(obscure?) ready to throw you off of our collective Q-Ryche-loving lawn......

/it's starting to hit me like a two-ton heavy thing.....
//sorting my Ipod by artist, and dialing up Q...
