It wasn't a gyp at all, it was Syesha's time to go.

What were we talking about?

It's not just young people, but they have it in spades. And it's not the attention span so much as the totally trivial approach. The latest shiat I'm hearing is "I'll vote for McCain because that way power will be split up and then they can't screw up anything." I have heard literally those words from a young woman who I know is pro-choice. Face. Palm.

The Sun Times is the Chicago version of the Times of London or the New York Post; a geriatric whine rag.

Anyway, call young peoples' attention spans short if it makes you feel better about being old. At least we didn't hand the country Nixon, Carter, Reagan, or Bush II - thank the elderly for those great leaders.

There's a young woman here at my work who is rabid in her support of Hillary Clinton. Every time she walks in on a conversation involving Presidential politics, she instantly clicks into "Why ya gotta pick on Hillary?" mode. She even arranges the magazines in the break room so that Hillary's face is lined up across the rack 90% of the time. I would probably normally admire her dedication to her candidate.

...Until I heard her tell a friend yesterday that she's never bothered to "go to the trouble of re-registering" since she moved up here to Oregon from Cali five years ago. I mean, it's only representative democracy, what's the big deal, right? No, evidently cheerleading alone is how she's gonna get Hillary into the White House.

Awwww... that's so cute. But thanks.

Just make sure not to say anything to her until after your primary, okay?

Speaking for my little section of Rural Kansas, it's the thirty to fifty-somethings who are all too distracted by American Idol to notice.

Right. It's always young people with the problem. Clearly they're the ones screwing everything up; there's no indication that obsession with American Idol or the farked up state of the economy and political system have anything to do with the "short attention span" problem going across the age board. nooooo.

I gotta agree with your friend there. Politicians are by definition a steaming pile of fail. I think governmental gridlock is the best thing for this country, when you consider the alternative is the government trying (and failing) to do stuff.

In politics, young people's everyone's "attention spans are pretty short."

FTFY

I'm being super serial here...

The media is the biggest culprit-they spend so much time jumping from one non-issue to the next that it is hard for anyone to keep up. This problem is only compounded by the fact that every time they actually get around to reporting some actual news, it is interrupted by the latest development in Britney Spears drive to Crazy Town.

Add to that the amount of pandering the politicians do to assure everyone that, unlike their opponent, they love America and would never do or say whatever idiotic thing the press has been rattling on about now for the past 24-hour news cycle. God forbid they should take a stand on actual issues and give me reasons to vote for them instead of against their opponent.

And it doesn't stop there! The public is stupid enough to sit back and think all of this amounts to anything. "OMGZ! CFANBS (Central Fox American Network Broadcast System) said that Candidate A passed gas after judging a chili cook-off! I would never vote for a President that passes gas!! It's un-American!!!"

And it's this way every election cycle, from small town politics to national politics. We care more about having something trivial to be upset about than doing the hard work of making this country a better place to live.

/I blame the Boomers.
//You old farts need to get off my lawn.

Too late now, registration is over for this election. If my circle of acquaintances is any barometer, you can definitely put us in the win column for Obama. I wouldn't be surprised to see at least 60/40, maybe a little higher.

Young people don't vote. They just talk about voting.

Cuz voting's like hard and stuff. The voting place is like all the way on the other side of the quad, and their best buddy Spooge just got the new Grand Theft Auto, OMG remember the time when we were playing Halo 3 and Spooge kicked over that brand new R2D2 bong, spilling bong water all over the rug? They are so not getting their damage deposit back.
