Sounds like the recipe for a pretty sweet Photoshop to me.

Um... How exactly does that look like an iPod?

Because it's white? wtf?

Looks more like this..

Too bad Eve is completely proprietary which means Wall-E will have a hard time getting anything to work with her without extra software. And Wall-E can't play with her either because she doesn't support any games.

But hey- she's hip, cool, and overpriced. Yup, typical chick/mac.

... that's really stretching it, Subby. It looks more like a personal massager than an iPod.

With the white body & blue lit up eyes, I'd say she looks more like a Wii than an iPod.

I want to be outraged, I really do, but I'm not. It's not surprising at all. Go and look at Back to the Future sometime to see some really egregious product placement - from Pepsi to Toyota pickup trucks.

Totally. That's why I make it a point to see films that are completely void of product placement like say, Transformers for example.

I can't decide on which snarky response to leave for submitter, so pick the one you like:

1) Imagine that, designers drawing inspiration from a company that's universally praised for the aesthetic beauty of their designs.

2) Imagine that, Steve Jobs' old company following the same design philosophy as Steve Jobs' other old company.

3) Yes, Apple needs the product placement, seeing as they've only sold one iPod for every two farking people in America.

4) You're right, submitter, it's cool to be cynical about the most critically and commercially successful animation studio in the world!

Other than the fact that it's white, I'm not really seeing the resemblance there.

I hate to say it, but this isn't Pixar's firs time product placement like this ...

I heard there was a Mr. Potato Head, a Slinky Dog, and Army Men very carefully, subtly hidden in the two toy story movies. Blink and you can miss them.

Blink for a reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally long time. And stop listening for a bit.

I guess it looks like an iPod, in that both an iPod and this robot are things... that exist... sort of.

Harvey Birdman 2008-05-15 08:08:54 AM
Just looks like it was designed by Jonathan Ive, which it was, so.. um.. shocked, appalled, *gasp*, and so on...?

I'm sorry, why is this green?

Heh. That got a chuckle out of me.

t3knomanser 2008-05-15 09:05:26 AM
The similarity results from the fact that Jonathon Ive, the designer of the iPod consulted for Pixar at Steve-o's request.

Since Steve Jobs owns Pixar, is CEO of Apple and majority shareholder in Disney, I think it's okay if he moves some staff around between companies a bit.

Jack31081 2008-05-15 09:15:53 AM
Product placement?

Seriously?

How dense are you guys? A fake flying robot from the future is somehow a product placement for an mp3 player or a computer?

If you want a Pepsi you're gonna have to pay for it pal!

FTA: Jobs sold Pixar to Disney and is Disney's largest shareholder as well as the CEO of Apple.

I think largest shareholder qualifies as owner?

I clearly am too lazy to look it up, but couldn't he just own 2% of the shares available and having no one at higher than 1%, make him the largest shareholder?

you have to be kidding right? that was a robotic arm from a car manufacturing plant.

okay this thread will work as well as any for this random thought, why the hell haven't they done a monsters inc two yet? i know the disney thing and all but that was actually the best pixar/disney split.

I thought the same thing when I saw a commercial. I just couldn't remember the name of the robot

TheGreyPiper 2008-05-15 01:18:08 PM
Great. Another Disney movie that's nothing but a 90 minute commercial.

Well, in some countries male restrooms are typically just a "Wall" to pee up. And in the US, toilets are sometimes known as Johns.

And E is the fifth letter of the alphabet.

So WALL-E obviously equals Johnny 5.

Not really. They are both examples of variations of an actual robot type.

WELLLLL, Disney owns Pixar, but they bought it with stock, and made Jobs the #1 stockholder of Disney shares,

so Pixar kinda bought Disney

no, he has major voting power on the Disney board, enough to make sure that Pixar runs Disney's animation studio and maintains its independence name wise.

Jobs in the big vote in Disney now.

simpsonfan 2008-05-15 09:36:12 PM
meh, PIXAR could make a bunch of trees better actors than most of the people working in movies now.

limboslam 2008-05-15 11:13:15 PM
Hmmm.....also looks like an egg. Are the "egg producers" in on this too?
