Awesome. I'll be in Austin in September for the ACL Festival. I hope it makes the playlist the night they perform.

Camera's a little shaky but the sound's pretty good, especially if you push the bass up a tad.

I love their Album, btw.

Very sexy gypsy/bluegrass/classic rock. Good luvin' music.

They were great at Jazzfest this year, though their onstage dynamic was weird, I don't think they ever got within 20 feet of one another

Odd you mention that... in all the clips I've seen, they're rarely more than 10 feet apart, and their chemistry seemed very good, with every indication they were genuinely enjoying the heck out of playing together.

Looking forward to seeing them here in Asheville next month.

So far, I've only heard the first 7 songs, and for some reason, I expected it to be a bit more on the rockabilly side. The first four songs while good, almost put me to sleep! So far, I think it's pretty damn awesome just not what I expected.

Yeah, because he doesn't need Led Zeppelin anymore. I hear the album's great, but I'm all set with Percy.

\I'll save my dollars and cents for Jimmy and Jonesy.

It was as though Krauss thought Palmer had cooties. I thought it was really strange because they sounded great, and were totally in sync with one another but they never shared a microphone or got anywhere near one another.

Something more like this, maybe? Here they are doing the George Jones song "One Woman Man" on Jools Holland's show. They even let Buddy Miller sing a little with them.

I was wondering what that looked like. I was about 400+ feet behind the cameraman at the time.

Excellent show.

As stiff as Krauss seemed (mainly through the early goings) that was one hell of a show. I pitied Sheryl Crow having to follow that.

Is there anyone as hot as Alison Krauss who is a great musician and great singer as well?

Maybe Stevie Nicks in the 70's but she didn't play any instruments. You can now commence the Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham and their "instruments" jokes

This. I find myself thinking that there is something very exotic and very plain about her, all at the same time. Yes she sure as hell can sing and play.

I could be wrong, but on top of that, she seems remarkably undiva-like, too. In all the interviews I've seen with her and Robert (and sometimes T-Bone), they all seem so relaxed and comfortable together. If your short attention span can bear it, here's a lengthy interview with the three of them on The Charlie Rose Show.

Palmer's dead, so that might have had something to do with it.

As this is a Led Zep thread, I'd nominate Ann and Nancy Wilson from Heart:
Covering the same song (new window)
Doing their own thing (new window)
(the music is good in both songs, for the "hot" factor ignore the more recent video...)

In Down From The Mountain, she comes off as very nice and down-to-earth, as does Emmylou. John Hartford, not so much. Then again, the guy was dying of leukemia at the time.

Plant resurrected it because she can sing the high parts he can't get to anymore. I would still pay more for a LZ reunion than I would for any other show.

Rev. Skarekroe: Pretty good, but she's no Sandy Denny.

She was truly at her best when she was a hot young fiddle player, with Alison Brown in her band. She's gotten more into her voice, which is angelic, but a little of that goes a long way.

And I preferred Annie Haslam

I actually enjoyed Down From The Mountain more than O Brother, Where Art Thou. Who knew Emmylou was such a baseball fan? That cracked me up. And I loved the little bit with Gillian Welch talking about what a kick Emmylou and Alison were getting out of making her do the high part on their trio singing. Not such a fan of Alison with her hair short, though. Some women look good like that, but not her so much.

That kind of goes without saying. But Sandy being dead, it's good that he's at least found someone who can hold their own on the song and do it justice.

I suppose you're familiar with this Richard Thompson song, right? I like it better with Linda singing it, but I couldn't find a clip of that.

Yeah, I liked her when she was underage (did I say that out loud?)and just after that. She has made some weird style choices, hair and clothing-wise. She's a real doll though.
I can't agree about OBWAT, I think it's one of the best movies of the '90's. DFTM was very good, but Oh Brother was perfect, to me. Great music, great characters delivering excellent lines...but I digress. I saw the DFTM tour in Philly. Bobby Neuwirth was MC in Hartford's absence, but it was very good. Another one of those occasions where Jerry Douglas got to play with everyone. Damn, I do love Jerry.

So you're gonne see Plant & Krauss? I will, if I go to Bonnaroo, but that's a big if at this point.

Well, even Emmylou went through an "awkward stage" fashion-wise in the 80's, didn't she?

My first exposure to Jerry Douglas was on a T-Bone record, actually. He did a solo album on Dot in the mid-80's that was all acoustic, and recorded live to 2-track in the studio. If you can track down the CD, it's great. Jerry plays throughout, and is featured on instrumental versions of a couple of the songs. Bobby Neuwirth is a real character, isn't he? I met him briefly in Austin once -- was at a song swap at a friend's house and someone asked this guy I didn't know if he'd play a song -- it was Neuwirth. Must say, I wasn't expecting that!

So you're gonne see Plant & Krauss? I will, if I go to Bonnaroo, but that's a big if at this point.

I splurged and scored a couple of 10th row seats! I think they're playing at Bonnaroo the very next day. Perhaps Alison needs a manservant and I can tag along... a fellow can dream, right?

To quote Jimi, "dream on, dream on"

Enjoy the show.

My favorite Jerry solo album is "Slide Rule", followed by "Restless on the Farm". But his collaborations are stellar. Del McCoury's Cold Hard Facts (he plays and produces), one of a trio called Skip, Hop & Wobble, and Strength in Numbers to name a few.

I love Neuwirth in Don't Look Back. He was the urchin getting Dylan into mischief throughout, if you weren't aware of that. Also very good.

Not sure which album your talking about. The guy's been on over 1800 albums, according to his site. What a virtuoso, but he never dominates the sound when collaborating, just very tastful additions, until his solos. Like in Union Station.

It was just called "T-Bone Burnett" and it came out in '85 I think. Douglas plays throughout the whole thing.

And yeah, Neuwirth was a marvelous bastard in Don't Look Back.

That was real nice. Good song. And typical of Jerry. I saw some people in the comments very complementary of Jerry's playing.

Strength in Numbers, which I mentioned above, is Bela Fleck, Mark O'Connor, Edgar Meyers, Jerry Douglas and Sam Bush, who began collaborating at Telluride, and most of them are there every year, and jump on and off stage frequently. That is heaven. And the album is called Telluride Sessions, and is excellent.

Emmylou always looked good, even when she dressed in the dark.

As much as it must disappoint you, Mr. Plant is apparently not stuck in the past. He doesn't seem to need the money a reunion tour would obviously bring, and looks to be enjoying the opportunity to do something different which he finds rewarding creatively.

You dont know how right you are. While not having met either of them, when watching their crossroads special it becomes very obvious that Plant is almost in awe of the players and the genere of music he is experimenting with. He genuinely is enjoying what he is doing and very much comes off as student to Krauss' teacher. It's a pretty awesome to see.

You don't know how wrong you both are. After Plant is finished with Krauss, he will be-reuniting with Led Zeppelin w/ Jason Bonham.

And this information is coming from... where?

Not saying it's not possible, but right now, this is clearly what Plant wants to be doing. They have shows booked at least into September, and some interviews with them have indicated an interest, or at least the possibility, of additional recording together. Further, he's seemed reluctant to even discuss the idea of a reunion tour, except to say that he had no interest in Led Zeppelin putting on a dog and pony show just because people wanted them to -- there would have to be a lot more to it than just that.

I heard it on a radio station from a DJ. He was saying how that Jason Bonham is on tour now with Foreigner, but will be joining Zeppelin again when they reunite. Apparently Plant recently made more comments about the reunion. I can't find it online, but don't care. It will happen.
Plant can play with Krauss 'til then... I'm sure he wants to. But I'm also sure that he wants to play with Zeppelin again for the spiritual experience. Read the recent Spin Magazine coverage with interviews from Page, Plant, and Jones.

Madbassist1 [TotalFark] 2008-05-16 10:30:27 AM
That's true there is a zep tour in the works. But that doesn't make Plant "wrong" to experimment with other generes of music. You really come off as a tool with that attitude.
