(YouTube) Amusing Madonna told you she was hardcore. Then she played the riff from "A New Level" by Pantera on guitar to prove it. Happens at the 6:20 mark   (youtube.com) divider line 87

There is a difference between BEING hardcore, and DOING hardcore (pr0n). Maybe Madonna is just a little confused.

Yeah, sliding that arrow to the right is a lot of work. It's a streaming video, you don't have to wait for a download.

Older british women and gay men...that would be a no.

VonKraut 2008-05-14 11:37:48 AM
that was actually pretty cool. I'm really sad that I'm saying this about a Madonna video.

Oh. I forgot. Doing that on my favorite porn site usually crashes the video.

If she played close enough to me, for a low enough price, I'd go see her, and I would know that riff.

I would have missed it though, having gone on refreshment break 6:00 prior when the suckfest began.

jake_lex [TotalFark] 2008-05-14 11:47:42 AM
Madonna's gotten as pathetic as Michael Jackson in her unwillingness to admit that her career is well past its prime, and she has to stop acting like she's Queen of the World. I'm not saying it's over for her, just that things have changed.

GoDawgs! [TotalFark] 2008-05-14 11:53:21 AM
Yeah, and Nickelback plays Cowboys From Hell at concerts too. Maybe we can get the trifecta going with a Fall Out Boy cover of F*cking Hostile.

WOW. Is it me or am I right in saying she cant play guitar at all?

Chariset [TotalFark] 2008-05-14 12:27:27 PM
Say what you will, she's managed to hang onto a 30-year period of influence without any major scandals, and she still looks pretty good and has a fan following. It's going to take a really good female performer to inherit Madonna's crown, and I'm not sure any of the current crop has a chance.

You are correct.

I'll give her bonus points for playing (badly) a Pantera song though.

you know you would think that after 30 years in the music industry she would move onto writing songs that had a little more subject matter to them.

My Review:

The first min or so. a speech.

She starts playing guitar.God, her guitar playing sucks. sounds like some kid at guitar center playing that song. Her tone sucks. It's 'in time' but simply lacks 'awareness' of guitar. No dynamics, no feel, robotic.

Thank God at around 2:30 or so, the other musicians come in and you can't hear parts distinctly anymore. At that point, the song sucks much less.

I've made it to 4:20. It's turned out to be be a decent rock remake of the original. The original is much better though. Wait ... this is just strange. The verses just lag. The chorus works OK though. Boring. It's not really working...

Stupid rant at 5:00 ... oh i'm waiting and my brain is bored ... i'll make stupid noises on my guitar. oh wow a totally retarded pick slide. retarded dancers.

at 6:00 oh good, back to the chorus, the only good part. and the thing that makes it good in the first place is the ABBA sample.

oh boy 6:20 ... lets play a pantera riff!?!?! errr ... that doesn't really follow here ... doesn't make much musical sense ... she is obviously hardcore now.

7:00 stupidly stupid rawk fade ... complete with feedback and spazz drumming

7:30 oh boy! i put my hand up in the air like a real rock star, like Pete Townsend (but with bigger boobs and biceps).

7:51 the song ends.

7:52 ah.... the sound of silence > that stupid song

You might want to actually, like, become a great musician first asshole.

Three of Dimebag's solos from Pantera songs ranked among Guitar World magazine's top 100 of all-time: "Walk" (#57), "Cemetery Gates" (#35), and "Floods" (#15)

He was famous before Dimebag, back when he was "Diamond" in the late 80s-early 90s

Great. I'm sure opinion of the magazine that constantly publishes the tablature for "Gimme Three Steps" and "Nothing Else Matters" is well regarded in the music industry. Hell, Guitar World magazine should probably be the ultimate arbiter of who wins Grammy awards. Chops do not make you a great "musician" they make you a great "player."

Anyway you missed the point ... ever wonder why "Diamond" Darrell changed his nickname?

JohnnyDreamboat 2008-05-14 03:29:34 PM
I think people liked Dime because he was a really nice guy who played guitar really, really well. I am pretty sure that he was nicknamed "Dimebag" because he was a really, really little guy.
Personally, I can't listen to Pantera because the vocals kill it for me.
/Not a stoner.

Her guitar player used to play for Prong. I'm guessing that's where she got the idea to jam it out.

/I loved that the crowd went batshiat over that. They were probably just thinking Madonna came up with that all on her own.

If by "her career is well past its prime", you actually mean she continuously makes new music and sells out concert venues, then yes, it's past prime.
