Of all the songs in the world to rip off, he had to rip off Jefferson Starship's "Jane." It's been 25 years and I'm still stunned by this.

Someone once told me this was the greatest guitar solo ever; that it included all the classic techniques and building blocks for rock guitar.

I should have punched his mother in the face then and there.

Even the cheese was better back then.

\lawn off of it, kids.

Admission time: I have this song on my iPod.

You children may stay on my lawn because I'm not like those other Methusalehs. But if the frisbee hits my garage door one more time, I'm keeping it.

mysticcat [TotalFark] 2008-05-14 11:45:27 AM
Cheesy? You bet.

But that is a killer guitar tone in the solo.

This song was one of the main reasons that my first real guitar was a Les Paul.

Mine could not shoot lasers out of the headstock, however.

\Love the one note tap in the middle of the solo \m/

I also have it in my car. Memories.

Nothing like being half in the beg windows down, stereo cranked.

That thumping bass line in the beggining, the helicopter rotors, and the song goes to 100 mph in a hot second.

Fooling myself was not a bad song either.

In the 80s you could listen to hairbands, metal, the cure, and no one cared. Bono was not a douchebag. And Madonna was hot.

I knew a girl who farked him back in the 80's and she was actually proud about it. She looked like a young Marilyn Monroe, so she was hot.
I saw Aldo open up for Rainbow at the Stanley Theater in Pittsburgh in 83 or 84. I will never forget how loud his guitar was. He was louder than Blackmore.

Half in the bag in your car and Aldo Nova cranked on the stereo? Florida tag indeed!

Cheesy video aside, this is my favorite song.

Trivia: Aldo Nova actually played everything but the drums on this song.

Half in the bag for me means three beers these days o lady of the great white north. Just the edge of a buzz creeping in and motore functions in tact.

I am from New Orleans originally, and I would have to say growing up there you are exposed to one of the most diverse music scenes in the world.

I would see a Dixiland band one night, a punk show the next, and a minstream pop act on the weekend.

The 80;s in New Orleans saw a lot of REM, Dash Rip Rock, Bauhas, the cure, etc. But most music lovers in the city listen to everything.

You must have missed me ripping on myself when I think it must be pretty funny seeing a guy in a new jetta wearing a suit, with the Aldo Nova blaring...

Depends on the mood, last week it was the Tom Tom Club. This week it has been a mix of Alejandro Sanz, G love and Special Sauce Sauce

not ashamed to admit I tried to get the guys I jam with to cover this song.

I remember just rocking my young brains out to that song, in my friend's Burt Reynolds, screaming chicken, black and gold Trans Am.

I didn't miss the joke at all...just thought the opportunity to make a Florida-related joke was too good to pass up. It would be funny to hear Fantasy blaring from a Jetta while stopped at a traffic light. I was stopped next to a guy the other day who was blaring rap music, and I had on "The Safety Dance" at top volume, so I suppose I really can't say much!

nothing like ye auld safety dance.

A few days ago I bought an erasure CD out of a junk bin, and my girlfriend said it turned the car into a rolling gay bar, and she is right. Some things need to be left in the past.

A buddy of min was in from California and we were at a local event here in Jacksonville and a big blazer rolled up blaring Billy Squire Rock me Tonight, and my buddy was like "yall got some rednecks here" and when we looked in the window, the guy was black and rocking out to it.

/buddy who pointed out was black. made it even funnier.

I love Chains of Love and Respect by Erasure, but you're right, the only acceptable places for those are in the quiet of your own home or your friendly neighbourhood gay bar. But, that said, having "Respect" blaring and trying to hit the high note in the chorus is good for some laughs.

I like to blast Bronski Beat's "Smalltown Boy" while tearing up the asphalt in my 1970 GTO. If anyone can catch me, they are free to tell me what a homo they think I am.

Watching that video made me want to look up the other song I remember from him called "Monkey On Your Back"

The video is worth it just for the white gold toothed pimp alone.

No joke, he stole a friend of mine's wife. I don't know if that was before or after his own got stolen. Still I think he's a creep for doing it and she has no class for going with him.
I mean...really? Aldo Nova?
Yeah, the song's not bad but...Aldo Nova? Come on, he dresses like a pimp's hat band. In addition his name is Aldo Nova, it sounds like a brand of central european car that runs on lighter fluid and goat's milk.
Just my two cents.

Oh my. Was this recent, or while he was riding high on his 15 minutes of fame? Either way it's pretty bad, but at least it's kind of understandable with the latter.

I would have absolutely no problem getting over a woman that left me for Aldo Nova. No problem at all. First I'd have to make sure she wasn't just kidding, and then I'd help her pack.
