And you may ask yourself, what is that music coming from the Great Hall of the Battery Maritime Building?

And you may tell yourself, why it's a bunch of drunken swabbies and fair young maidens singing "Barnacle Bill the sailor".

I've got a big-ass poster for that album up on a wall in my house -- one of the benefits from working in record stores in the late 70's.

Can't say I can disagree with some of the comments re: Byrne. I recently watched Stopped Making Sense again for the first time in years, and it was notable even then how things had taken a turn towards "David Byrne and musicians" and away from Talking Heads, the band. Most of the solo stuff I've heard by him has seemed a bit precious to me.

Saying that, I will admit that I am very interested to hear that he's working with Brian Eno again, and the prospect of them touring together (as has been rumored) has me quite whipped up indeed.

The blame for '77's semi-sucktitude lays ENTIRELY on the production. Toni Bongiovi totally didn't understand the minimalism that was the Heads' sound. Eno got it.

Track down the CBS demos. It's Talking Heads as a trio, no bullshiat production, and doing the songs from "77". It's amazing.
