Obviously you haven't spent much time in a hospice. His attitude isn't at all unusual for someone who's gone through what he has. Sure enough, if someone where told they had mere hours to live they would react something like you describe, but this is different. This has been a long time coming. He has endured so much that death no longer scares him.

Got to meet the cowgirls cheerleaders once back in 1999 when I was deployed to Albania. They came out to my guard post and asked if I wanted a pic with them.
