Too bad the article can't capture the sweet yooper accent of Calumet! I would love to hear audio of that police officer.

I've been getting semi-regular notices of a 15$ (5$ initially, late fees added) parking ticket owed since 1994 for a vehicle and plate that never belonged to me. Your local government at work. They even use USPS stamps to send them. I would guess that the time of the employees and postage has cost the taxpayers (me) about 25$. I have no reason to believe it will ever stop but my time is worth more than starting a special olympics argument with some grey-haired grandmothers who love to lick stamps.

Everyone who breaks the law and tries to get away with it deserves to be made an example of using the harshest punishments allowable. This woman is no different. I say jail her.

Rape victims in Saudi Arabia also break the law. They should be stoned, tortured, and then put to death.

Same thing happened to me. I just called them up and said I never owned it. Stopped getting them, problem solved.

I remember reading a story about a guy who got a parking ticket in the mail from a red light camera. Of course this had a picture of his car on it. He decided that it was only right to send a picture of the money. The cops did find this somewhat amusing and they sent him back a picture of handcuffs...Shortly after he paid the fine.

See, now that makes me suspicious. I'll bet she has someone tied up in her basement. Better track her down to make sure.

I sent a letter. Actually scanned a .pdf for my insurance policy with what vehicles I owned at the time of the ticket. If that's not enough, I know what it is I am dealing with.

Have you asked what it will take to clear it up?

I got sued for having my name and owning a white pickup truck in 2003. It was a hit and run, the owner was simply identified as "Dave Hogan" before the driver left.

A phone call later I pointed out my truck was totaled 3 months before the accident. I told him a police report was filed, and gave him the name of the tow company that bought it as scrap. I never heard another word about it, and it took all of three minutes.

Try calling and asking what it will take to get it cleared. I'll bet if you ask, you'll find out you missed something they need. Worst case most states track when you buy or sell a car, and who they give plates to. Your local DMV could help clear it up as well I'd bet.

A respectable lady in Michigan? That narrows the pool down quite a bit.

Once. I got blueprints for a go-kart you build with a lawnmower engine. The ad was about 20 years old and I sent $1.30, and they sent me a long letter thanking me.

My friend ordered AND built that go-kart 35 years ago. It was pretty cool. Wouldn't bother now - most people just buy an ATV...

Depends on the state, especially if you move to another one.

HELL YEAH!!!! I based my 15yo life on his teachings back in the day. Also Parker Lewis but whatever. That episode is great! I love his Quint impression- spot on. Another one of my faves was the one where Chris and Larry go camping and eat the berries that make them halucinate. "What if it's sand people?" "Larry, everyone knows sand people have been extinct for millions of years!" and the ever-awesome "They can put a horse on the moon but they can't make a can of soup you can bash open on a rock!"
Sorry if the quotes aren't exact. It has been a while man. Good to see another fan of comic gold though, brother.
