The incident occurred Aug. 22 at Flushing Fields Play School, the lawsuit claims, and since the incident the child has cried and has nightmares. Angela's family filed the lawsuit against the teacher, the city and the Department of Education.

What four year olds don't cry and have nightmares? If they're trying to imply that there's a connection between this event and these occurrences, they'd need a bit more evidence.

I am not sure who to be more disgusted with. The school or the parents. How about if we take off and nuke them both from orbit.

Here's hoping that the judge orders the parents' and lawyers' mouths sealed with scotch tape for wasting the court's time.

Hero tag on break? Seriously why is it a problem. It did no harm to the child but was an effective way to get the point across. Sounds like something I'd do to teach my kids to be quiet during quiet time.

As for the kid having nightmares I seriously doubt that. It in no way harmed her and would not have been hard for her to get the tape off if she needed to. If she is having nightmares it about her parents reaction. They probably sat her down and told her what a horrible and scary thing that was so that they could sue. It is very easy to plant a false idea in a kids head to serve your own purposes. The kid probably thought it was funny until she was told it was scary.

I had my mouth taped shut as a kid and always thought it was hilarious

as an teacher, I KNOW this wasn't the girls first incident of talking. She probably has a sever case of being unable to STFU.
Most children cannot, but I think some old school nun-style disapline would serve us all well.

Seconded.

What's the worst that'll happen? She'll get sent to detention or the office... where she'll get to sit and talk the whole way there and once she gets there too.

if we didn't just have a crash test dummies headline the other day, this would have been a good opportunity for one.

"Once there was this girl who
talked too much in class and so the teacher taped her mouth shut.
when she finally got home
Her lips were chapped from all the adhesive.
She said that it was from when
the teacher pressed it so hard"

FTFY... partially. I could go into the poorly structured sentences and that obviously missing capital letter; but I'm too busy praying to every deity ever documented you don't teach English.

very tempting in my line of work, but I just don't think it would last very long, unless you used duck-tape of something.

I went to a private elementary school starting at 4 years old (in kindergarten--they made us sit in rows at desks and learn rather than have playtime) and they could and would punish us like this. Other forms of punishment included making us wear a pig nose if our desk was messy, or making us stand with our nose to the wall outside at recess for a certain number of minutes, or tying us together and making us walk around all day together for fighting. Hey, it worked! I wish schools could still do some of these things today...

I can understand this, sort of, that parents would not be too happy about having their 4-year-old's mouth taped shut. And I MAY have understood even being upset if, say, the teacher used duct tape.

I'd bet dollars to doughnuts these "nightmares" (assuming they exist... I doubt she has them any more than your average kid does) came about because of their response to the situation. Oh, and crying? Yeah, you worthless, money-grubbing dicklickers... children DO THAT.

People like this deserve to have their children taken away from them, along with jail time.

puffy999 [TotalFark] 2008-05-11 04:21:09 PM
Forgot to mention... SCOTCH tape? Fark that. That won't do a damn thing, and unless the girl is a little biatch like her parents, she'd have probably either a) enjoyed it, or b) been confused by it and shut up.

When I was in 2nd grade, our teacher, Mrs. Theerman, masking-taped my entire classroom's mouths closed.

It shut us little brats up, that's for sure.
