Just to complete the suckness, the crowd is to be sprayed with shiat from the tour bus during the encore.

Fark you. DMB put on a damn good live show.

AAAAA+1 - headline would read again.

It's probably a benefit for the cancer, not the cancer patients.

Please Dave, won't you have the restraining order lifted? I promise to love you and hug you and kiss you and tie you and keep you in the basement forever.

This. Or, at least, they used to (haven't seen them in 7 years). However, the headline did make me LOL. +1

No, it is not a good show. I was a big fan until I saw one of their boring ass shows. Haven't listened to them in about 5 years now.

But did he hit a home run?

Gunny Highway 2008-05-11 03:02:32 PM
They should have done an AIDS benefit instead. There is a little boy listening to Jimmy Buffet right now.

Ugh DMB or Jimmy Buffet. I hope I am never presented with that question. Could cause my head to pop.

I don't get the hate for this band. I heard one song of theirs once and it was alright, but they seem to attract a lot of bile on the interwebs.

Most people have a knee-jerk reaction when a band is so well loved by so many people. And the fratty dudes who called him "Dave" as if they were friends annoyed the piss out of me in college.

My thoughts as a fan and musician: they are a fine band with one of the finest rhythm sections in popular music. Matthews writes good songs, some great songs, and some crap, just like everyone else. His guitar playing and singing style are his own, and he deserves credit, not criticism for that.

But someone needs to go back in time and tell a young Dave Matthews not to hire a sax player or a fiddle player. Not because they are terrible (thought Tinsley is sloppy as hell live), but because those instruments are completely unnecessary. I wanted to kill myself at the end of the one DMB show I saw, and I could point to exactly two reasons why.

You heard ONE song of theirs ONCE and it was alright? Wow, I bet you're in the position to ask a question like that.

"One time I heard this song by this band The Beetles, or the Cockroaches, or something. Anywho, it wasn't the greatest thing in the world, which all the kids rave about."

DayTripperIntro 2008-05-11 07:02:43 PM
RobThomas PowerHour: That was not funny.

DKinMN: That's a very rational way to look at things.

Dave Matthews Band is just okay. They have some good songs. Having said that, it's hilarious to hate on them.

I like DMB and have for years (less so lately), but I laughed at the headline. I can understand not liking music that is popular.

It's not because it's popular. I love many popular bands that get a lot of hate on Fark. It's more that a lot of people are not big fans of their sound, which is much more understandable (fiddle and saxophone are not typical accompaniments to rock music, and while some people will like that sound, others won't). I find the music uninspiring and boring, personally. Some of their songs are even annoying to me. It's not because they're popular, believe me, it's that musical taste is highly subjective.

No. It's because they're popular. If they weren't popular, they wouldn't be fun to laugh at.

Like some of the DMB stuff.

A little confused about all the DMB hate. I was, admittedly a bigger fan a while back ("Crash" was my wedding song) but they are an AMAZING live band.

Yes, I'd admit Jimmy Buffet sucks - cuz he's a poser. Jimmy Buffett, on the other hand, got me living through a winter in Iowa so I am forever indebted.

/Drinking a Corona right now
/Yes, I'm man enough to admit that on Fark

paulseta [TotalFark] 2008-05-11 10:13:13 PM
The hate is always free and easy (and funny) because Dave Matthews has an absolutely inept singing voice. It's like a gay version of Eddie Vedder crossed with Edith Piaf on testosterone patches, then blended in a warble machine set to "piss me off immensely"

The band itself are good musicians, but the whole shebang represents the absolute definition of ghastly "regular guy" rock, fronted by a man with all the charisma of a blocked sink.

At least the money the band makes ensures that the "singer" can keep himself supplied with lots of clean flannelette shirts and pale chinos.

See also: Hootie and The Blowfish, only they are even worse.

I've never been a huge DMB fan, which kind of bums me out because they're playing @ Busch Stadium this summer with The Black Crowes, whom I would love to see live.

Tanasychuk 2008-05-11 11:54:52 PM
I mock what you love and think what you hate is the greatest

/He did a great guest stint on "House"
//or didn't depending if you agree with my above statement

I wonder how many people will get cancer as a direct result of the emissions from thousands of frat boys driving their SUV's to the concert?

Slu 2008-05-12 10:35:52 AM
+1 on the headline.

I used to like DMB, back in 1994 when I was a stoner college kid. Then I either grew up or DMB became terrible, because anything after the Crash record is pretty much ear poison in my opinion.

And yes I have seen them live...many times. But no times since 1998.

In an effort to be a good girlfriend I dropped a load of money on DMB tickets despite my open hostility for all things Dave. I honestly tried to enjoy it (under the guise that it is awesome live), but it was nothing more than a gigantic suck-fest which only deepend my infinite rage for a man whom I have never met.

However, I am an avid OSU fan and alum.

Yeah, I was a huge DMB fan back in the late 90's. I saw them a few times and thought they were pretty damn good, but then he wrote "Halloween" and "Don't Drink the Water" and began to sing in that gravelly sh*tty style and it just went to hell from there. Can't stand them now.

the biggest dmb fan i ever knew was a straight-laced do-gooder who would never ever smoke. we had a hard enough time getting him to drink. he is pretty useless tho..

Are you farking nuts? Tinsley kicks all kinds of ass. He's one of the best parts of the show.

you haters are pretty funny.

Dave's singing is unique...hellofalot better than the cannibal corpse guy.

The band is stellar.

The songs are good.

they're just farking overhyped is all.

I'd still see em. great show.

"DMB" isn't THAT bad. Some of their songs are very good. It's just that Farkers have no emotions between "awesome" and "bullsh**".
