See, now, I would have gone more for Ripley than the alien queen. Ripley wasn't the girl's mother, but she kicked some serious ass to protect that little girl, who, IIRC, had lost everyone. The alien queen was acting on instinct. Ripley was fighting for her own survival, but had no obligation to help the girl besides her own heart. Stepping up to responsibilities not because you have to instinctively but because you feel like you must morally is way more noble.

I was referring to "Mother", the computer from the Nostromo. But, the queen worked, too, I guess. :)
