... weeks after the country starlet and klieg lights had come ...

"Klieg lights"?? Great googly moogly!

Suicidal Writer 2008-05-10 09:50:31 PM
Damn, that's like $70,000 an hour.

"For $400,000 - the amount paid for Carrie Underwood's recent concert - ETSU could have easily had two or three [or more] less-famous musical acts, or even some kind of progressive music or performance series," wrote student Mira Gerard in the East Tennessean on April 3. "Something like that would represent the alternative to what we all can get by turning on our radios and watching TV."

What's this chick's Fark handle?

Six-figure bills for a famous singer to give a performance are actually pretty common. It's usually in the neighborhood of $100k-$200k, though, not $534k as in TFA.

Kind of a misleading headline, subby. They misread how much they had to spend, not how much she charged to play there, as you infer.

You know... if I went to that school, and they spent my money on useless crap like that, I'd be pissed...

For $400k, the school could have hosted a freaking music festival of local bands or something...

But personally, I'd rather it go to something I could use year-round rather than one night/day.

How the hell does Carrie Underwood score $400K for a concert this early in her career? I know she won best Country Artist one year, but Wow.

Who the hell is Carrie Underwood? And is she worth $7k for a concert?

GAT_00: Who the hell is Carrie Underwood? And is she worth $7k for a concert?

She wrote a song called "Before He Cheats" where she assumes the role of a woman with incredibly bad taste in men losing her sh*t and punishing her ex-boyfriend by mutilating his material possessions ostensibly to teach him a lesson but the subtext is that the character in the song is that her ex had already moved on and she couldn't be an adult about her relationship ending on a sour note.

Redundant if you'd mentioned "Country song."

I wish I could be this lucky.
There is no mention that they are trying to recover their money...

Torqane: Redundant if you'd mentioned "Country song."

Yeah, but people that consider that song to be "their song" get pissed off when you point out that she's acting in a manner as immature or even more so than the guy she is purporting to be punishing and probably feeding into an already established vicious cycle of dating men who are toxic for her.

What's to recover? Again, the issue was not that they paid her more than they were supposed to, but that they thought they had more funds available than they really did.

RTFA next time.

I realize this is East Tennessee State we're talking about, but Carrie Underwood? For $400K? Dang...

dramatools [TotalFark] 2008-05-11 02:56:25 AM
For $400,000, I'd better get to play bass and slam Ms. Underwood in the pooper after the encore.

zedster [TotalFark] 2008-05-11 03:36:05 AM
You know what you get if you sing a country song backwards?

you get your dog back, your truck back, your house back, and your wife back...O! and you get off the farking train

WhyteRaven74 [TotalFark] 2008-05-11 03:47:24 AM
For $400k they could get a few big name bands. Especially given that it's a school putting on the concert.

Thread closed, good night folks!

Wow.

If someone handed me 400k to put on a concert and said have at it, I think anything less than a 3 day extravaganza with multiple bands would be a disappointment.

Carrie Underwood alone would be a total travesty.

Suicidal Writer: Damn, that's like $70,000 an hour.

FAIL $7,120/min * 60 mins/hour

= $427200/hr.

Obviously he was just using metric time.

I'd give her a dollar to play at my party.

/Only if she strips
//50 cents otherwise

So if you were wondering about how good the Math, Business Administration, and Computer Science programs at East Tennessee State were....

-I was at this concert.
-It was good.
-Not $7,120.00 a minute good. But still pretty good.

Malbar:

And people wonder why the cost of a post-secondary education is soaring. Part of it has to do with the fact that you're forced to pay for activities like this whether you want to go or not.

Yeah, I wanted to go to college, but that bank-bustin' $20 activity fee was a total deal breaker.

Where's the hot Carrie Underwood pics?

crak_rabbit 2008-05-14 02:20:28 AM
Convinced her crotch would taste like buttercream icing if I got the chance.

/just sayin
